Akasha/Canticles Of The Sepulchral Deity/Grey Matter Productions/Les Fleur du Mal Records/2019 Full Length Review

  California's  Akasha  has  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  continues  the  vampiric  style  of  black  metal  from  previous  releases  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  2019  album  "Canticles  Of  The  Sepulchral  Deity"  which  will  be  released  in  March  as  a  joint  effort  between  Grey  Matter  Productions  and  Les  Fleur  du  Mal  Productions.

 Clean  playing  along  with  some  melodic  guitar  leads  start  off  the  album  which  also  mixes  in  with  the  heavier  riffs  throughout  the  recording.  Vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  while  all  of  the  musical  instruments  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  when  the  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats  can  also  be  heard.

  When  tremolo  picking  is  utilized  it  also  gives  the  music  more  of  a  raw  feeling  while  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.  A  decent  amount  of  dark  sounding  melodies  can  also  be  heard  in  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  which  also  mixes  in  some  dissonant  structures  at  times.

  Clean  playing  also  makes  a  return  in  certain  sections  of  the  recording  as  the  album  progresses.  A  lot  of  the  music  brings  in  more  of  a  modern  style  of  black  metal  while  also  remaining  true  to  the  traditional  side  of  the  genre,  a  later  track  is  also  a  very  ritualistic  sounding  instrumental  while  a  later  song  also  introduces  synths  onto  the  recording.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  Death  Worship,  Spiritual  &  Mental  Vampirism,  Hatred  and  Nihilism  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  album  from  Akasha  which  also  shows  a  great  amount  of  progress  from  previous  releases  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  vampiric  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  recording.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Akasha  (Canticles  Of  The  Sepulchral  Deity)"  "Sepulchral  Oath"  "Vibratory  Waves Collapsed"  and  "Worship At  The  Threshold  Of  Her  Womb".  8  out  of  10.

Akasha/Unrest/Vibrations Of Blood And Hate/Grey Matter Productions/2018 Split Album Review

  This  is  a  review  of  a  split  album  between  California's  Akasha  and  Pennsylvania's  Unrest  called  "Vibrations  Of  Blood  And  Hate"  which  was  released  by  Grey  Matter Productions  and  we  will  start  off  the  review  with  Akasha  a  solo  project  that  has  recently  had  music  reviewed  in  this  zine  and  plays  a  vampyric  form  of  black  metal.

  His  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  before  going  into  a  heavier  direction  which  also  shows  an  influence  of  the  first  wave  era  while  the  blast  beats  and  tremolo  picking  during  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  also  gives  the  music  more  of  a  raw  feeling.

  When  guitar  leads  are  utilized  they  are  done  in  a  very  raw,  chaotic  and  melodic  style  while  some  of  the  riffing  also  adds  in  a  small  amount  of  melody  along  with  all  of  the  musical  instruments  having  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  as  well  as  the  songs  also  bringing  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  and  they  close  their  side  of  the  split  with  a  cover  of  Motorhead's  "Ace  Of  Spades",  the  production  sounds  very  raw  and  heavy  while  the  lyrics  cover  Death  Worship,  Spiritual/Mental  Vampirism,  Nihilism  and  Hate  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Akasha  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  raw  and  vampyric  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  their  side  of  the  split.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Life  Force  Control".

  Next  up  is  Unrest  another  band  that  has  been  featured  before  in  this  zine  and  plays  a  very  raw  and  hateful  form  of  black  metal.

  Their  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  ritualistic  sounding  synths  before  going  into  a  heavier  and  melodic  musical  direction  which  also  introduces  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  onto  the  recording  while  the  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  during  the f aster  sections  of  the  music  also  gives  the  songs  more  of  a  raw  feeling.

  Throughout  their  side  of  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  some  dark  soundscapes  also  being  used  briefly  on  one  of  the  later  tracks,  the  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  hateful  and  misanthropic  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Unrest  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  raw  and  hateful  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  their  side  of  the  split.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Eternity".

  In  conclusion  I  feel  this  is  a  very  great  sounding  split  and  I  would  recommend  it  to  all  fans  of  raw  black  metal.  8  out  of  10.

Akasha/Consuming The Soul/Grey Matter Productions/2018 EP Review

  Akasha  are  a  solo  project  from  California  that  plays  a  vampyric  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  2018  ep  "Consuming  The  Soul"  which  was  released  by  Grey  Matter  Productions.

  A  very  dark  and  ritualistic  sound  starts  off  the  ep  along  with  some  occult  style  synths  a  few  seconds  later  before  going  into  a  heavier  direction  which  also  introduces  melodic  guitar  leads  onto  the  recording  along  with  all  of  the  musical  instruments  having  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.

  When  the  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  can  be  heard  which  also  gives  the  songs  a  more  raw  feeling  while  the  vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  along  with  the  music  also  bringing  in  a  great  amount  of  90's  influences  as  well  as  the  songs  also  bringing  in  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  and  when  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  done  in  a  very  melodic  style,  as  the  ep  progresses  a  brief  use  of  acoustic  guitars  can  also  be  heard  and  the  closing  track  also  brings  in  some  session  work  from  Lord  II  of  Byyrth.

  Akasha  plays  a  style  of  vampyric black  metal  that  is  very  raw,  old  school  and  ritualistic  sounding,  the  production  sounds  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  Vampirism  and  Occultism  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Akasha  are  a  very  great  sounding  vampyric  black  metal  solo  project  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  ep.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "BloodSpell"  and  "Fuck  The  Sun".  8  out  of  10.
