Mutiilation/Pandemium Of Eregores/Osmose Productions/2025 Full Length Review

 

  France's  Mutiilation  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for  a  very  raw  and  melodic  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2025  album  Pandemonium  of  Eregores"  which  will  be  released  on  2026  by  Osmose  Productions.

  A  very  dark  yet  heavy  sound  starts  off  the  album  while  the  vocals  are  mostly  grim  sounding  black  metal  screams.  At  times  the  music  also  captures  a  very  lo-fi  atmosphere  along  with  the f aster  sections  of  the  songs  also  adding  in  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast b eats  which  also  gives  the  recording  more  of  a  raw  feeling.

  Most  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length  while  the  music  is  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  old  school  era  of  the  genre.  Melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  along  with  the  songs  also  adding  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  as  well  as  the  solos  and  leads  also  being  done  in  more  of  a  melodic  style.  and  the  whole  album  sticks  to  a  heavier  direction.

  On  this  recording  Mutiilation  take  their  style  of  black  metal  into  more  of  a  melodic  direction  without  losing  the  aggression  of  previous  releases.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  death,  darkness  and  occultism  themes.    

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Mutiilation  and  if  you  are  a f an  of  this  band,  you  should  enjoy  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Shadows  Over  The  Valley"  and  "Haschischin  Cage".  8  out  of  10.

Mutiilation/Black Metal Cult/Osmose Productions/2024 Full Length Review

 

  France's  solo  project  Mutillation  has  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for  more  of  a  raw  and  aggressive  school  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  2024  album  "Black  Metal  Cult"  which  was  released  by  Osmose  Productions.

   A  very  dark  yet  heavy  sound  starts  off  the  album  while  all  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length.  When  the  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  can  be  heard  which  also  gives  the  songs  more  of  a  raw  feeling  and  the  vocals  are  mostly  grim  yet  high  pitched  sounding  black  metal  screams.

  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  while  the  riffs  also  add  in  a  small  amount  of  melody.  Most  of  the  music  brings  in  more  of  a  90's  and  2000's  vibe  mixed  in  with  some  more  modern  aggression  along  with  all  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  album  also  having  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.

   When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  finally  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  dark  yet  melodic  style  and  one  song  also  adds  in  a  brief  use  of  clean  playing  and  chants  along  with  the  closing  track  also  adding  in  a  brief  use  of  spoken  word  parts.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  black  metal,  devil  worship,  evilness,  death,  demonology,  darkness  and  anti  Islamic  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Mutiilation  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  solo  project,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "From  The  Plains  Of  Ice  And  Death"  and  "The  Fall  Of  Islam".  8/5  out  of  10.

Mutiilation/The Lost Tapes/Osmose Productions/2018 Compilation Album Review

  Mutiilation  are  a  solo  project  from  France  that  has  had  an  album  reviewed  before  in  this  zine  and  plays  a  very  raw  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  compilation  album  "The  Lost  Tapes"  which  will  be  released  in  December  by  Osmose  Productions  and  consists  of  unreleased  recordings  from  2009  to  2010.

 Grim  black  metal  screams  start  off  the  compilation  before  going  into  a  very  fast  and  raw  musical  direction  which  also  uses  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  programmed  blast  beats  while  some  of  the  tracks  are  very  long  and  epic in  length  along  with  the  riffs  also  adding  in  a  decent  amount  of  dark  sounding  melodies.

  All  of  the  musical  instruments  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  while  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  the  music  also  having  a  lot  of  90's  influences  but  modern  enough  fro  2009  as  well  as  the  guitar  leads  being  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  when  they  are  utilized  and  at  times  the  vocals  also  add  in  a  semi  melodic  tone  and  on  some  of  the  tracks  also  add  in  more  of  a  demonic  style.

  On  this  compilation  Mutiilation  re-recorded  some  of  his  older  tracks  and  also  remained  true  to  the  grim  and  raw  black  metal  style  he  is  known  for,  the  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  vampirism,  satanism,  depression,  filth,  melancholy  and  sadness  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  a  very  great  sounding  collection  from  Mutiilation  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  French  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  compilation.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Transylvania"  and  "Through  The Funeral  Maelstrom  Of".  8  out  of  10.

Mutiilation/Black Millennium (Grimly Reborn)/Drakkar Productions/2001 CD Review

Mutiilation where a band from France that played a very dark, raw and primitive form of black metal and this is a review of their 2001 album "Black Millenium (Grimly Reborn) which was released by Drakkar Productions.

Drums range from slow, mid paced to fast drumming with some blast beats being thrown in at times, while the bass playing has a very dark tone with riffs that follow the riffing that is coming out of the guitars, a s for the synths they are only utilized for a few seconds and they bring a feeling of an old black and white horror film feel to the music.

Rhythm guitars range from slow, mid paced to fast raw black metal riffs that are very dark, primal and depressive at times with one song having some soft and slow playing that gives the music an avant garde evil feeling and there are little to no guitar solos or leads present on this recording.

Vocals are all grim sounding black metal screams with some mournful cries being thrown in at times as well as some demonic chanting, while the lyrics touch on depression, anti Christianity, darkness, evil and hatred for humans with m one song being written in French, as for the production it has a very dark, raw and primitive sound to it.

In my opinion Mutiilation where a very good raw, primitive and hateful black metal band and if you are a fan of this style, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "The Eggs Of Melancholy" "The Hanged Priest" "No Mercy For Humans" and "Black As Lead And Death". RECOMMENDED BUY.
