Kly/Ciene/Pagan Records/2021 CD Review

 

  Poland's  Kly  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  continues  the  avant  garde  style  of  post  black  metal  with  elements  of  coldwave  that  they  introduced  on  their  previous  release  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2021  album  "Ciene".

  Spoken  word  parts  start  off  the  album  before   going  into  more  of   a  heavier  and  melodic  musical  direction.  All  of  musical  instruments  that  are  present  on  the  recording  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  while  the  vocals a re  mostly  angry  sounding  black  metal  screams  which  also  have  their  deeper  moments  and  elements  of  coldwave  can  also b e  heard  at  times.

  The  music  also  adds  in  a  decent  amount  of  avant  garde  structures  while  some  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length.  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  post  metal  style  along  with  some  clean  playing  also  being  added  into  some  parts  of  the  recording.

  Synths  can  also  be  heard  in  some  parts  of  the album  along  with  one  track  also  introducing  spoken  word  parts  onto  the  album.  All  of  the  songs  also  sound  very  different  from  each  other  as  well  as  a  small  amount  of  blast  beats  also  being  utilized  when  the  music  finally  speeds  up  a nd  most  of  the  songs  sticks  to  a  slow  or  mid  tempo  direction,  acoustic  guitars  are  also  added  on  the  closing  song.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  Polish  and  cover  the  Contemplation  Of  Reality.   

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Kly  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  avant  garde  and  post  black  emtal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Zbarwi"  and  "Zagnanie".  8  out  of  10.

  Poland's  Kly  has  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  them  going  for  more  of  a  post  black  metal  style  with  some  avant  garde  and  cold  wave  elements  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2021  album  "Chen"  which  was  released  by  Pagan  Records.

  Field  recordings  start  off  the  album  along  with  some  keyboards  a  few  seconds  later  while  whispers  can  also  be  heard  on  a  few  tracks  before  going  into  a  heavier  musical  direction.  All  of  the  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  as  well  as  some  melodies  also  being  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing.

  Vocals are  mostly  angry  sounding  black  metal  screams  while  the  solos  and  leads  are  done  in  a  very  dark  yet  melodic  post  metal  style.  Avant  garde  sounds  are  also  mixed  in  with  the  heavier  sections  of  the  songs  along  with  some  of  the  tracks  also  being  very  long  and  epic  in  length  and  touches  of  cold  wave  can  also  be  heard  at  times.

Kly/Wyrzny/Pagan Records/2020 CD Review

  Kly  are  a  band  from  Poland  that  has  had  music  reviewed  before  in  the  zine  and  plays  an  atmospheric  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2020  album  "Wyzrny"  which  will  be  released  on  May  8th  by  Pagan  Records.

  Atmospheric  soundscapes  and  synths  which  also  mixes  in  with  the  heavier  sections  of  the  music  at  times.  start  off  the  album  along  with  some  clean  playing  a  few  seconds  later  while  the  vocals  are  mostly  angry  sounding  black  metal  screams.  At  times  the  music  also  captures  a  very  ritualistic  and  shamanistic  atmosphere.

  All  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  while  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  also  add  in  a  decent  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  which  also  gives  the  music  more  of  a  raw  feeling  and  the  songs  also  add  in  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.

  Spoken  word  parts  and  whispers  can  also  be  heard  on  some  of  the  tracks  along  with  the  guitar  leads  also  being  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  when  they  are  utilized  as  well  as  the  music  also  adding  in  a  small  amount  of  melody  in  some  parts  of  the  recording,  at  times  the  songs  also  shows  an  influence  of  90's  era  black  metal  but  also  keeping  it  modern  at  the  same  time.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  Polish  and  cover  Shamanism,  Mushrooms  and  the  poetic  writings  of  Miron  Bialoszewski. 

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Kly  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  atmospheric  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Burza  (My  rozgwiazdy)"  and  "Zakorzeniene".  8  out  of  10.

Kly/Szczerzenie/Pagan Records/2018 CD Review

  Kly  are  a  band  from  Poland  that  plays  an  atmospheric  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2018  album  "Szczerzenie"  which  will  be  released  on  April  20th  by  Pagan  Records.

  Atmospheric  sounding  drones  start  off  the  album  along  with  some  spoken  word  parts  a  few  seconds  later  which  also  leads  to  a  brief  use  of  bass  solos  before  going  into  a  heavier  direction  while  also  keeping  the  atmospheric  elements  and  whispers  can  also  be  heard  briefly  as  well  as  the  music  bringing  in  a  decent  amount  of  synths.

  Most  of  the  tracks  are  very  long  and  epic  in  length  while  the  music  also  captures  a  ritualistic  and  shamanistic  atmosphere  at  times  along  with  the  riffs  also  bringing  in  a  great  amount  of  melody  and  the  vocals  bring  in  more  of  deeper  style  of  black  metal  as  well  as  the  slower  sections  of  the  songs  being  very  heavily  influenced  by  doom  metal.

  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  done  in  a  very  melodic  fashion  while  spoken  word  parts  also  return  on  some  of  the  later  tracks  along  with  some  clean  playing  being  used  at  times  which  also  gives  the  music  more  o  a  progressive  feeling  as  well  as  the  music  also  bringing  in  depressive  elements  at  times  and  when  the  music  finally  speeds  up  a  small  amount  of  blast  beats  and  tremolo  picking  can  be  heard.

  Kly  plays  a  style  of  atmospheric  black  metal  that  is  very  original  and  different  from  most  bands  of  this  genre  and  also  adds  in  a  new  approach,  the  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  Polish  and  cover  mountains,  forests,  shamanism  and  contemplation  of  reality  themes.

   In  my  opinion  Kly  are  a  very  great  sounding  original  and  atmospheric  black  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Wypelni"  and  "Dale".  8  out  of  10.
