Lux Nigrum/Omnia Ab Uno, Omnia Ad Unum/2023 Full Length Review

Chile's  Lux  Nigrum  has  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for  a  chaotic  form  of  occult  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  released  2023  album  "Omnia  Ab  Uno,  Omnia  Ad  Unum".

Dark  soundscapes  start  off  the  album  before  going  into  a  very  fast  and  raw  musical  direction  which  also  utilizes  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats.  Vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  while  the  riffs  also  add  in  a  great  amount  of  melody  and  some  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length.

All  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  while  the  songs  also  add  in  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  along  with  the  music  also  adding  in  influences  from  both  the  modern  and  old  school  era's  of  the  genre.  Clean  playing  can  also  be  heard  on  some  of  the songs  and  a  couple  of  the  tracks  are  also instrumentals.

On  this  recording  Lux  Nigrum  takes  their  music  into  more  of  a  raw  and  chaotic  style  of  black  metal.  The  production  sounds  very  raw  and  heavy  while  the  lyrics  cover  Alchemy,  The  Tree  of  Life,,  Hermiticism,  Thanatos  and  Eros  and  the  Left  Hand  Path.

In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Lux  Nigrim  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  raw  and  chaotic  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Funeral  Pyre  Of  Will"  and  "The  Holy  Nachash".  8  out  of  10.

Lux Nigrum/Burning The Eternal Return/Herejia Records/Street Metal Blasphemy/2019 EP Review

Lux  Nigrum  are  a  duo  with  members  from  Chile  that  have  been  featured  before  in  this  zine  and  on  this  recording  plays  a  dissonant  form  of  satanic  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their 2019  ep  "Burning  The  Eternal  Return"  which  will  be  released  on  cassette as  a  joint  effort  between  Herejia  Records  and  Street  Metal  Blasphemy.

A  very  dark,  heavy  and  melodic  sound  starts  off  the  ep  while  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  great  amount  of  tremolo picking  and  blast  beats  which  also  gives  the  music  more  of  a  raw  feeling.  Vocals  are  mostly  grim  sounding black  metal  screams  and  the  music  also  has  a  great  amount  of  90's  influences  but  done  in  more  of  a  modern  style.

At  times  the  music  also  gets  very  dissonant  sounding  while  also  mixing  it  in  with  more  of  an  old  school  style.  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  all  of  the  musical  instruments  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.

On  this  recording  Lux  Nigrum  adds  more  dissonant  structures  to  their  raw  and  chaotic  style  of  satanic  black  metal.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  Satanism,  Anti  Cosmic  Doctrines  and  Chaos  Magick  themes.

In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Lux  Nigrum  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  raw  and  dissonant  satanic  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  ep.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Burning  the  Eternal  Return"  and  "Wrathful  Chaos".  8  out  of  10.

Lux Nigrum Interview

1.Can you give us an update on what is going on with the musical project these days?

Salve!

Thanks for your interest on LN.

Currently Lux Nigrum is working on drums for the next material, on the last few months I've been composing guitars and writing lyrics to finally release the new Demo/MiniEP, it's been a few years since the release of Chaos Ritual. Basically, fighting against time and life to make musick.

2.Currently you are working on newer music, how does the current material differ from the stuff you have released in the past?

Well, I think I have improved myself as a "musician" because I've been practicing more, listening more and different music (some classic stuff too) like Thanatoloop, Herxsebet, Communion, Goatoimpurity, Vril, Einstürzende Neubauten and Blixa Bargeld solo work. Focusing on what you can hear is one of the most important aspects on composition.

The main difference may be time, influences, being self-critic with your work  and how that affects you on a positive or negative way, during the end of 2016 I had 7 songs ready to be recorded and I just wasn't convinced with them, music is a magical manifestation of yourself...

3.Your lyrics cover Anti Cosmic Satanism and Chaos Magick, can you tell us a little bit more about your interest in the dark arts and how long you have been following this path?

I think those interests come along as you grow up and see life as it is, you begin to question everything, all the things that you used to know, until one day you realise you are stranded in absolute nothingness so it is your responsibility to build your own reality according to what you believe and what you consider "pure". I'm not gonna talk in deep about you can see and hear on Lux Nigrum, but as I said, you begin to question everything, and with practice and effort you get "answers" and you can "hear" what you couldn't hear before. I was looking for answers, I studied and worked for what I needed until I could find the truth, which is worth living and dying for.

4.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Lux Nigrum'?

The blessing of the eleven ones...
assuming that cosmos is a limited and oppressive system that shall be destroyed, accepting Chaos as the holy manifestation  of nothing and all, free of all dualism and free of the consequential cycle of existence. Lux Nigrum is illumination through the "Black Light".

5.Since 2016 there has not been any new material released, can you tell us a little bit more about what has been going on during that time span?

It's been some kind of "active hiatus", since the last release of LN I've been answering interviews, sending and trading CDs of the re-edition of Primordial Chaos by Ignis Gehenallis and working on other "musical" projects.

6.With the exception of a drummer, you record everything by yourself, do you feel that it is very hard to find other musicians that share the same vision you have?

Yeah it's really complicated to find someone who has a serious compromise with music and with all that Lux Nigrum represents, it's a waste of time trying to work with alcoholic or drug addicted assholes who are in music just by chance and not for devotion. I'd rather wait a thousand years to finish an LP and do it by myself with the help of a few indicate  persons, than to work "fast" with sub-human scum.

7.'Defiled Light', took your 2015 demo and released under a different name with 2 bonus tracks, do you feel this label did a lot of help when it came to getting your music out there heard?

It helped a lot to spread Lux Nigrum over the USA, the cassette edition was limited to only 20 copies but I found out that a lot of people got a copy and the edition was sold out in a week or two, I'm very satisfied with the work that the Defiled Light did for Lux Nigrum, it's a shame that the label died... but I think it keeps working as "Perverse Homage" with other artists. Sanguine Relic is their most important project in my opinion.

8.On a worldwide level how has the reaction been to your music by fans of black metal?

Considering the quality of the demos and also considering that those are just demonstrations of what Lux Nigrum sound is, the reaction has been really good, I received emails from people on France, USA, Peru, Chile (obviously) and Argentina, so people are interested in Lux Nigrum, some people love the chaotic and savage sound and other people hate it but really appreciate our spiritual and philosophical fundaments, until now I'm satisfied with the response... the idea is just to keep working and never stop.

9.Are you currently involved with any other bands or musical projects these days?

My other current project is De-Sartre, it started on early 2016 and it's pure Harsh Noise, sonic destruction and deconstruction of the idea of music and what it has become through all these years, a reflection on our post-modern society and the nocive capitalistic and neoliberal aspects that poison our every day lives, along with that, De-Sartre is a contemplation exercise, specially playing live.

Agresor Prods. from Mexico will release a cassette edition of "De la Explotación a la Autoexplotacion" on Cassette Tape limited to 30 copies.

Also I played with Ponzoña (Black Metal) and right now working on the first and last demo of a HNW duo.

10.When can we expect some new music to be released?

I'm planning to release this new opus before the end of the year, entitled "Burning the Eternal Return": Behold the vanishing of the tyrannical serpent, Ouroboros consumes itself destroying the eternal circle of life and death, no more cosmical darkness, no more dualism. Blessed be the Acausal Light of Azerate.

As I said before right now "we" are working on the drums, (Vimana, the same person who recorded the first demo with me) and bass, guitars and voice are waiting to be recorded, also Michel Leroy of Thanatoloop will collaborate on Lead Guitar.

11.What are some of the bands or musical styles that you are listening to nowadays?

I've been listening a lot of Einstürzende Neubauten, some Thanatoloop releases  (specially "..."), Atomicide, Goatoimpurity, Metaphysis, Assault, Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds, "Henry's Dream" is a masterpiece, also the duo collaboration between Teho Teardo and Blixa Bargeld, their last album "Nerissimo" is one of the most reflexive and "dark" works I've ever heard.

12.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?
