The Kryptik/A Journey To The Darkest Kingdom/Purity Through Fire/2023 Full Length Review

 

  Brazil's  duo  The  Kryptik  has  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for  more  of  a  raw,  old  school  and  symphonic  style  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2023  album  "A  Journey  To  The  Darkest  Kingdom"  which  will  be  released  in  June  by  Purity  Through  Fire.

  Rain  and  thunder  sounds  start  off  the  album  before  adding  in  some  symphonic  style  synths  which  also  mixes  in  with  the  heavier  sections  of  the  songs  at  times.  Melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  while  all  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length  and  when  the  music  speeds  up  a  decent  amount  of  blast  beats  can  be  heard.

  When  tremolo  picking  is  added into  the  faster  riffing  they  also  give  the  music  more  of  a  raw  feeling  while  the  vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams.  Most  of  the  album  is  also very   heavily  rooted  in  the  90's  era  and  all  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.

  Clear  vocals  can  also  be  heard  in  certain  sections  of  the  recording  along  with  the  songs  also  adding  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  as  well  as  some  tracks  also  adding  in  a  small  amount  of  clean  playing,  angry  shouts  and  spoken  word  parts  can  also  be  heard  briefly  and  the  album  closes  with  an  instrumental.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  Occultism,  Darkness  and  Anti  Religion  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  The  Kryptik  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  raw,  old  school  and  symphonic  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "A  Journey  To  The  Darkest  Kingdom"  "The  Rotten  Wounds  Of  The  Blessed"  and  "Opus  Lucifero".  8  out  of  10.

The Kryptik/Behold Fortress inferno/Purity Through Fire/2020 EP Review

  The  Kryptik  are  a  duo  from  Brazil  that  has  had  music  reviewed  before  in  this  zine  and  plays  a  synth  orientated  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2020  ep  "Behold  Fortress  inferno"  which  will  be  released  in  October  by  Purity  Through  Fire.
 
   Sounds  of  wind  of  thunder  start  off  the  ep  along  with  some  synths  a  few  seconds  later  which  also  mixes  in  with  the  heavier  sections  of  the  songs  and  also  gives  the  music  more  of  a  symphonic  feeling.  Most  of  the  tracks  are  also  very long  and  epic  in  length  and  blast  beats  can  also  be  heard  during  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs.

  When  tremolo  picking  is  utilized  it  also  gives  the  music  more  of  a  raw  feeling  while  the  riffs  also  add  in  a  great  amount  of  melody.  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  the  vocals  being  mostly  grim  yet  high  pitched  black  metal  screams.

  Most  of  the music  is  also  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  90's  era  along  with  the  music  also  capturing  a  ritualistic  atmosphere  at  times  as  well  as  one  track  being  an  instrumental  also  introducing  clean  playing  onto  the  recording,  one  track  also  adds  in  a  small  amount  of  battle  samples,.

  As  the  recording  progresses  a  brief  use  of  growls,  clean  singing  and  melodic  guitar  leads  and  solos  can  be  heard  and  the  ep  closes  with  a  cover  Of  Mayhem's  "Funeral  Fog"  which  in  my  opinion  is  unneeded considering  there  are  too  many  cover  versions  of  this  song  and  their  whole  80's  to  90's  catalog.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  old  school  while  the  lyrics  cover  Darkness  and  Occultism  themes. 

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  The  Kryptik  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  old  school  and  synth  orientated  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  ep.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Behold  Fortress  Inferno"  and  "Paths  From  Eternity".  8  out  of  10.

  The  Kryptik  are  a duo  from  Brazil  that  plays  a  synth  orientated  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2019  album  "When  The  Shadow  Rises"  which  will  be  released  on  Halloween  by  Purity  Through  Fire.

  Synths  start  off  the  album  and  also  mixes  in  with  the  heavier  sections  of  the  music  while  also  having  their  symphonic  moments  at  times.  When  the  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats  and  tremolo  picking  can  be  heard  which  also  gives  the  songs  more  of  a  raw  feeling.

  The  riffs  also  add  in  a  decent  amount  of  melody  while  the  songs  also  add  in  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.  Vocals  are  mostly  grim  yet  high  pitched  sounding  black  metal  screams  along  with  a  great  portion  of  the  tracks  also  being  very  long  and  epic  in  length.

  In  my  opinion  The  Kryptik  are  a  very  great  sounding  synth  orientated  black  metal  duo  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "The  Awakening  Of  Evil"  and  "Ungodly".  8  out  of  10.
