Mayhem/Daemonic Rites/Century Media Records/2023 Live Album Review

Norway's Mayhem have returned with a live recording which consists of a good mixture of both old and newer material and this is a review of their 2023 live album "Daemonic Rites" which will be released on September 15th by Century Media Records.

Live audience reaction and an intro starts off the album before going into a heavier direction while the riffs also add in a great amount of melody. Vocals are mostly high pitched black metal screams and when t he music speeds up a great amount of tremolo picking and blast b eats can be heard which also gives the songs more of a raw feeling.

All of the musical instruments on the recording also have a very powerful sound to them while spoken word parts and whispers can also be heard in certain sections of the album. The songs also bring in a good mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts along with the newer material displaying more of a technical edge.

On some of the tracks the vocals also bring in more of a grim approach which also adds in a semi melodic tone at times. When guitar solos and leads are utilized they are also done in a very dark yet melodic style as well as some of the tracks also being very long and epic in length, throat singing and dark soundscapes can also be heard briefly. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover Satanism, Occultism, Paganism, Gore, Death, Misanthropy, War, Darkness and Philosophical themes.

In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Mayhem and if you are a fan of this band, you should check out this live album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Falsified And Hated" "My Death" "Pagan Fears" and "Carnage". 8 out of 10.

Mayhem/De Mysterious Dom Sathanas Alive/2016 Live Album Review

Mayhem are a legendary band from Norway that has been around for more than 30 years and are one of the biggest influences and most well known black metal band off all time and this is a review of their live 2016 album "De Mysterious Dom Sathanas Alive" which will be released on December 15th and is also their 1993 album of the same name being performed live.

A very fast and raw black metal sound along with a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats start off the album along with some morbid sounding melodies and after awhile grim screams are added onto the recording and while it is still the same singer the vocals sound more aggressive than the album.

Throughout the recording you can hear a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts and all of the musical instruments have a very powerful sound to them and some of the tracks are long and epic in length and as the live album progresses the vocals start regaining the feeling of the original tracks and the solos and leads also gives the songs more of a dark and melodic feeling when they are utilized and the album remains very heavy and raw from beginning to ending of the recording and on the last track the vocals get semi operatic.

Mayhem takes their classic 1993 album and plays all of the songs more than 20 years later live and they still have the ability to pull off the rawness that was a very huge parts of these tracks which in return where a part of the second wave creation of black metal, the production sounds very dark and raw with all of the songs recorded live while the lyrics cover Satanism, Paganism, Transylvania and Darkness themes.

In my opinion this is a very great sounding live album from Mayhem and if you are a fan of this band, you should check put this recording. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Funeral Fog" "Pagan Fears" and "De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas". 8/5 out of 10.

Mayhem/Live In Leipzig/Century Black/1997 CD Re-Issue Review

Mayhem are a band from Norway that is one of the most famous bands in metal history and one of the originators of the second wave and this is a review of their live 1991 album "Live In Leipzig" which was re-issued in 1997 by Century Black.

Drums range from slow, mid paced to fast drumming with not much in the way of blast beats, while the bass playing has a very strong and powerful sound with heavy riffing that dominates throughout the recording.

Rhythm guitars range from slow, mid paced to fast Norwegian style black metal riffs that helped create black metal the way it sounded in the early 90's as well as some underground thrash metal influences being thrown into the riffing at times, while the lead guitars when they are utilized are very raw and primitive sounding guitar solos and leads.

Vocals are all grim sounding and high pitched black metal screams, while the lyrics cover darkness, violence satanic and pagan themes, as for the production it has a very dark, heavy, raw and primitive sound to it with all of the songs being recorded live.

In my opinion this was a very great sounding live album and if you are a fan of t his band, you probably already own recording. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Deathcrush" "The Freezing Moon" "Pagan Fears" and "Pure Fucking Armageddon". RECOMMENDED BUY.
