Hubris/Acts Of Sedition/2026 Full Length Review

  Hubris  are  a  band  from  New  York  that  has  had  music  reviewed  before  in  this  zine  and  on  this  recording  goes  for  an  old  school  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  released  2026  album  "Acts  Of  Sedition".

  Dark  sounding  synths  start  off  the  album  before  going  into  more  of  a  heavier  and  melodic  direction  while  the  vocals  are  mostly  grim  sounding  black  metal  screams.  The  solos  and  leads  also  add  in  a  great  amount  of  melody  along  with  some  of  the  tracks  also  adding  in  a  small  amount  of  clean  playing.

  Spoken  words  can  also  be  heard  briefly  while  some  of  the  music  also  adds  in  the  brutality  of  death  metal.  When  the  album  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  can  be  heard  which  also  gives  recording  more  or  a  raw  feeling  and  the  songs  also  mix  in  a  lot  of  old  school  touches.

  Throughout  the  album  you  can  also  hear  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  some  of  the  tracks  also  being  long  and  epic  in  length.  Growls  are  also  utilized  at  times  as  well  as  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  having  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them,  one  track  is  also  an  instrumental.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  Satanism,  Egyptian  Mythology,  Death  and  Violence  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Hubris  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  old  school  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Lightless  Lantern"  "Era  Of  Hubris"  and  "Outer  Space  -  Satanic  Torture  -  Hymn  To  Nuit  In  The  Abyss".  8  out  of  10.

Hubris/Regency Of Hungering Swords/2019 EP Review

 

  Hubris  are  a  band  from  new  York  that  plays  an  old  school  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  released  2019  ep  "Regency  Of  Hungering  Swords"

  A  very  fast  and  raw  sound  starts  off  the  ep  along  with  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats.  Melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  while  the  vocals  are  mostly  grim  sounding  black  metal  screams  as  well  as  the  music  also  being  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  second  wave  Nordic  tradition.

  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  while  the  solos  and  leads  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  style.  Growls  are  also  utilized  at  times  along  with  most  of  the  tracks  also  being  very  long  and  epic  in  length  and  the  whole  ep  sticks  to  a  heavier  direction.

  Hubris  plays  a  style  of  black  metal  that  is  very  fast  and  aggressive  in  the  mid  90's  to  early  2000's  Nordic  tradition.  The  production  sounds  very  raw  and  heavy  while  the  lyrics  cover  Satanism  and  Death  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Hubris  are  a  very  great  sounding  old  school  black  metal b and  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  ep.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Mourn:  The  Hymn  Of  Extinction".  8  out  of  10.
