Christ Agony/Anthems/Deformeathing Production/2025 Full Length Review

Poland's  Christ  Agony  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for  a  melodic  mixture  of  black  and  dark  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2025  album  "Anthems"  which  will b e  released  in  September  by  Deformeathing  Production.

Dark  soundscapes  and  acoustic  gutiars  start  off  the  album  before  going  into  a  heavier  direction  while  the  riffs  also  add  in  a  decent  amount  of  melody.  Vocals  are  mostly  black  metal  screams  mixed  in  with  a  few  death  metal  growls  along  with  a  great  portion  of  the  tracks  also  being  very  long  and  epic  in  length.

All  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  while  one  song  also  adds  in  a brief  use  of  didgeridoo's.  A  lot  of  the  album  is  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  90's  era  as  well  as  being  very  modern  at  the  same  time,  synths  are  also  utilized  at  times,  when  the  music  finally  speeds  up  a  small  amount  of  blast  beats  can  also  be  heard  and  choirs  can  also  be  heard  briefly,  most  of  the  album  also  sticks  to  more  of  a  slow  or  mid  tempo  direction.

On  this  recording  Christ  Agony  update  their  dark  and  melodic  style  of  black  metal  for  the  modern  era.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  Occultism,  Darkness  and  Melancholy  themes.

In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  album  from  Christ  Agony  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  melodic  black  and  dark  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  recording.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Empire  Of  Twilight"  and  "Nocturnal  Dominion".  8  out  of  10.

Christ Agony/Black Blood/Witching Hour Productions/2015 EP Review

Christ  Agony  are  a  band  from  Poland  that  has  been  featured before  in  this  zine  and  plays  a  melodic  form  of  dark/black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2015  ep  "Black  Blood"  which  will  be  released by  Witching  Hour  Productions.

A  very  dark,  heavy,  raw,  melodic  and  atmospheric black/death  metal  sound  starts  off  the  album  along  with some  blast  beats  and  melodic  chants  that  evolve  into  grim  screams  while  also  keeping  around  the  chanting  and  after  awhile  the  songs  start  bringing  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.

All  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  have a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  some  of the  slower  riffs  bring  in  a  touch  of  doom  metal along  with  a  couple  of  the  tracks  being  long  and  epic  in  length  and  all  of  the  songs  avoid  using  any  solos  and  leads and  mostly  capture  the  atmosphere  and  melody  with  the  guitar  riffing  while  there  is  also  a  brief  use  of  acoustic  guitars.

Christ  Agony  creates  another  recording  that  is  mostly  rooted  in raw  and  melodic  black  metal  but  also  adds  in  a  touch  of  death  and  doom  metal  to  expand  on  the  style  of  dark  metal  that  they  have  established  on  previous  recordings,  the  production  sounds  very  dark  and  heavy  while  the  lyrics  cover  Satanism  and  Occultism  themes.

In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Christ  Agony  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  band,  you  should  enjoy  this  ep.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Coronation".  8  out of  10.

Christ Agony/Darkside/Hammerheart Records/1997 CD Review

Christ Agony are a band from Poland that plays a very atmospheric version of dark occult black metal and this is a review of  their 1997 album "Darkside" which was released by Hammerheart Records.

Drums range from slow, mid paced to fast drumming with a good amount of blast beats being thrown in at times as well as some tribal sounding percussion in addition there is some drum programming that is used briefly that gives the music and industrial feel, while the bass playing has a very strong and powerful tone with riffs that dominate throughout the recording, as for the synths they have a very dark, avant garde and atmospheric sound to them..

Rhythm guitars range from slow, mid paced to fast riffs that are mostly dark/black metal but have influences from thrash and death metal as well as a good amount of melody being thrown in as well as some slow and soft playing being used at times, while the lead guitars are very distorted and melodic sounding guitar solos and leads, as for the acoustic guitars they use finger picking and full chords to enhance the darkness of the music.

Vocals range from high pitched black metal screams, deep death metal growls and clean singing vocals with some occasional spoken word passages, while the lyrics are written in a mixture of Polish and English with themes that cover Occultism, Darkness, Paganism and Dark Poetry, as for the production it has a very heavy, powerful and professional sound and you can hear all of the musical instruments that are present on this recording.

In my opinion Christ Agany are a very good atmospheric, occultic dark/black metal band and if you are a fan of this style , you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE ""Heredity" "Dark Beauty" "Dark Goddess' and "The Key". RECOMMENDED BUY.
