Limbes/Ecluse/Les Acteurs De L'Ombre Productions/2023 Full Length Review

 

  Limbes  are  a  solo  project  from  France  that  has  had  music  reviewed  before  in  this  zine  and  on  this  recording  plays  a  cascadian  form  of  depressive  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  2023  album  "Ecluse"  which  was  released  by  Les  Acteurs  De  L'Ombre  Productions.

  Atmospheric  sounding  synths  start  off  the  album  and  also  mixes  in  with t he  heavier  sections  of  the  songs  at  times.  When  the  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast beats  can be  heard  which  also  gives  the  songs  more  of  a  raw  feeling  and  the  vocals  are  mostly  depressive  black  metal  screams.

  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  while  all  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length.  The  riffs  also  add  in  a  decent  amount  of  melody  along  with  the  solos  and  leads  also  being  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  as  well  as  the  music also  having  its  dissonant  moments.

  On  this  recording  Limbes  takes  the  atmospheric,  depressive,  dissonant  and  cascadian  styles  of  black  metal  and  mixes  them  together  to  create  a  very  diverse  release.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and r aw  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  French  and  cover  depression,  religion,  politics  and  philosophy  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Limbes  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  cascadian  and  depressive  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "De  courbes  &  de  peaux"  and  "Leurre".  8  out  of  10.

Limbes/Mütterlein/Les Acteurs de L'Ombre Productions/2021 Split Album Review

 

  This  is  a  review  of  a  split  album  between  France's  Limbes  and  Mütterlein  which  was  released  by  Les  Acteurs  de  L'Ombre  Productions  and  we  will  start  off  the  review  with  Limbes  a  solo  project  that  was  previously  known  as  Blurr  Thrower  and  plays  a  Cascadian  influenced  form  of  occult  black  metal.

  His  side  of t he  split  starts  out  with  some  melodic  guitar  leads  and  raw  tremolo  picking  before  going  into  a  faster  direction  which  also  utilizes  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats.  His  track  is  over  24  minutes  in  length  while  the  vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  and  the  music  also  adds  in a   great  amount  of  Cascading  influences.

  Throughout  his  side  of  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.  All  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  along  with  the  riffs  also  adding  in  a  decent  amount  of  melody  as  well  as  the  riffing  also  having  its  repetitive  moments,  the  music  also  brings  in  some  atmospheric  touches  at  times.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  French  and  cover  Occultism  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Limbes  are  a  very  great  sounding  Cascadian  influenced  black  metal  solo  project  and  if  you  are  a f an  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  his  side  of  the  split. 

  Next  up  is  Mütterlein  a  solo  project  that  plays  a  ritualistic  mixture  of  darkwave  and  doom  metal

  Her  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  some  electronic  sounds  along  with  some  clean  vocals  a  few  seconds  later.  Spoken  word  parts  can  also  be  heard  briefly  before  going  into  more  of  a  heavier  and  atmospheric  musical  direction  while  the  only  track  present  on  her  side  of  the  recording  is  over  19  minutes  in  length,  elements  of  doom  metal  can  also b e  heard  in  the  slower  sections  of  her  song  and  clean  playing  can  also  be  heard  briefly.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  heavy  while  the  lyrics  cover  solitary  grief  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Mütterlein  is  a  very  great  sounding  ritualistic  mixture  of  darkwave  and  doom  metal  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  solo  project.

  In  conclusion  I  feel  this  is  a  very  great  sounding  split  and  I  would  recommend  it  to  all  fans  of  atmospheric  black,  doom  metal  and  darkwave.  8  out  of  10.
