Antediluvian/The Divine Punishment/Nuclear War Now! Productions/2021 CD Review

 

  Antediluvian  are  a  band  from  Edmonton,  Alberta,  Canada  that  has  had  music  reviewed  before  in  this  zine  and  plays  a  dissonant  mixture  of  war,  black  and  death  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2021  album  "The  Divine  Punishment"  which  will  be  released  in  September  by  Nuclear  War  Now!  Productions.

  Dark  soundscapes  start  off  the  album  along  with  some  harsh  noises  and  demonic  spoken  word  parts  a  few  seconds  later  before  going  into  a  heavier  musical  direction.  All  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  while  a  great  portion  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length.

  When  the  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  war  metal  elements  and  blast  beats  can  be  heard  while  the  vocals  also  add  in  a  mixture  of  bestial  growls  and  black  metal  screams.  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  chaotic  style  along  with  some  dissonant  structures  also  being  added  into  some  of  the  riffing. 

  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  some  songs  also  adding  in  a  small  amount  of  clean  playing.  Dark  sounding  melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  as  well  as  the  music  also  having  its  ritualistic  moments.

  Melodic  chants  can  also  be  heard  briefly  and  on  some  tracks  the  music  also  goes  into  more  of  an  experimental  direction  and  also  adds  in  some  synths,  samples  and  violins.  When  tremolo  picking  is  utilized  it  also  gives  the  songs  more  of  raw  feeling  as  well  as  some  whispered  vocals  also  being  added  at  times.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  sex  magick, numerology,  Occultism,  Metaphysics,  Philosophy,  Chaos  and  Prehistoric  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Antediluvian  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  ritualistic,  experimental,  dissonant,  war,  black  and  death  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Obscene  Pornography  Manifests  In  The  Divine  Universal  Consciousness"  "Guardians  Of  The  Liminal"  "Temple  Prostitute"  and  "Winged  Ascent  Unto  The  Twelve  Runed  Solar  Anus".  8/5  out  of  10.

Heresiarch/Antediluvian/Defleshing The Serpent Infinity/Iron Bonehead Productions/2020 Split EP Review

  This  is  a  review  of  a  split  ep  between  New  Zealand's  Heresiarch  and  Canada's  Antediluvian  called  "Defleshing  The  Serpent  Infinity"  which  will  be  released  in  July  by  Iron  Bonehead  Productions  and  we  will  start  off  the  review  with  Heresiarch  who  return  with  their  mixture  of  war,  black  and  death  metal.

  Their  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  a  very  fast,  raw  and  brutal  war  metal  direction which  also  uses  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats.  Vocals  bring  in  a  mixture  of  bestial  growls  and  black  metal  screams  along  with  the  guitar  solos  and  leads  also  being  done  in  a  very  chaotic  style.

  The  songs  also  bring  in  some  of  the  90's  Australian  style  but  with  a  more  modern  day  brutality.  Throughout  their  side  of  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  the  music  also  adding  in  a  small  amount  of  melody,  synths  can  also  be  heard  on  the  closing  track.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  death and  war  themes.

  in  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Heresiarch  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  war,  black  and  death  metal,  you  should  check  out  their  side  of  the  split.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Excarnation".

  Next  up  is  Antediluvian  a  band  that  plays  dissonant  mixture  of  war,  black  and  death  metal.

  Their  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  a  very  fast,  raw  and  brutal  war  metal  sound  which  also  uses  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats.  Melodies  can  also  be  heard  in  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  while  the  vocals  also  bring  in  a  mixture  of  bestial  growls  and  black  metal  screams.

  In  my  opinion  Antediluvian  are  a  very  great  sounding  avant  garde  and  dissonant  mixture  of  war,  black  and  death  metal  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Slipstream  of  Levi".

  In  conclusion  I  feel  this  is  a  very  great  sounding  split  and  I  would  recommend  it  to all  fans  of  war  and  black/death  metal.  8  out  of  10.
