Above Aurora/Myriad Woes/War Anthem Records/2024 Full Length Review

 

  Poland's  Above  Aurora  has  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for  an  atmospheric  mixture  of  black  and  doom  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2024  album  "Myriad  Woes"  which  will  be  released  in  march  by  War  Anthem  Records.

  Dark  sounding  synths  start  off  the  album  along  with  some  drums  a  few  seconds  later  while  clean  playing  can  also  be  heard  on  a  few  tracks.  At  times  the  music  also  gets  very  atmospheric  sounding  as  well  as  one  song  also  adding  in  a  brief  use  of  spoken  word  parts  and  the  slower  sections  of  the  songs  bring  in  elements  of  doom  metal.

  Melodies  can  also  be  heard  in  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  while  the  solos  and  leads  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  style.  When  the  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  can  be  heard  which  also  gives  the  album  more  of  a  raw  feeling  and  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.

  Vocals  are  done  in  mostly  an  angry  black  metal  style  along  with  the  songs  also  adding  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.  Acoustic  guitars  can  also  be  heard  briefly  as  well  as  a  couple  of  the  tracks  also  being  very  long  and  epic  in  length.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  disappointment,  inner  struggles  and  fertility.  

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  album  from  Above  Aurora  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  atmospheric  black  and  doom  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Inner  Whispers"  and  "Horns  Of  Dread".  8  out  of  10.

Above Aurora/The Shrine Of Deterioration/Pagan Records/2020 CD Review

  Poland/Iceland's  Above  Aurora  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  into  more  of  a  pessimistic  trance-like  style  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2020  album  "The  Shrine  Of  Deterioration"  which  will  be  released  in  June  by  Pagan  Records.

  Melodic  guitar  leads  start  off  the  album  while  the  heavier  riffing  also  adds  in  a  decent  amount  of  dark  sounding  melodies  along  with  the  music  also  having  its  atmospheric  moments.  All  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.

  Vocals  are  mostly  deep  yet  angry  sounding  blackened  metal  screams  while  the  music  also  gets  very  hypnotic  sounding  at  times.  During  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  a  decent  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  can  also  be  heard  which  also  gives  the  recording  more  of  a  raw  feeling.

  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  a  couple  of  the  tracks  also  being  very  long  and  epic  in  length  as  well  as  the  music  also  bringing  in  more  of  a  modern  black  metal  style,  clean  playing  and  acoustic  guitars  can  also  be  heard  briefly  on  a  couple  of  songs.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  the  various  dimensions  of  pessimism.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  album  from  Above  Aurora  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  modern,  aggressive  and  atmospheric  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  recording.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Virus"  and  "Splinters". 8 out  of  10.

Above Aurora/Path To Ruin/Pagan Records/2018 EP Review

  Above  Aurora  are  a  band  from  Poland  that  has  had  an  album  reviewed  before  in  this  zine  and  plays  an  atmospheric  mixture  of  black  and  doom  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2018  ep  "Path  To  Ruin"  which  will  be  released  in  April  by  Pagan  Records.

  A  very  dark  sound  starts  off  the  ep  along  with  all  of  the  musical  instruments  sounding  very  powerful  while  the  music  is very  heavily  influenced  by  doom  metal  in  the  slower  sections  of  the  songs  as  well  as  the  riffs  also  bringing  in  a  great  amount  of  dark  sounding  melodies  and  spoken  word  parts  are  used  briefly.

  When  the  music  speeds  up  a  small  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  can  be  heard  which  also  gives  the  songs  a  more  raw  feeling  while  the  vocals  are  mostly  deep  black  metal  screams  along  with  the  first  track  being  all  instrumental  and  most  of  the  music  sticks  to  either  a  slow  or  mid  tempo  direction,  spoken  word  parts  and  horned  instruments  are  also  used  briefly.

  Above  Aurora  creates  another  recording  that  remains  true  to  their  atmospheric  mixture  of  black  and  doom  metal,  the  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  dark  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Above  Aurora  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  atmospheric  black  and  doom  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  ep.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Abyssal  Hades".  8  out  of  10.

Above Aurora/Onwards Desolation/Pagan Records/2016 CD Review

  Above  Aurora  are  a  band  from  Poland  that  plays  an  atmospheric  mixture of  black  and  doom  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2016  album  "Onwards  Desolation"  which  will  be  released  on  May  27th  by  Pagan  Records.

  A  very  heavy  guitar  sound  starts  off  the  album  and  after  a  minute  growling  vocals  make  their  presence  known  on  the  recording  while  you  can  also  hear  the  influence  of  black  metal  in  the  riffing  and  when  the  music  speeds  up  a  small  amount  of  blast  beats  can  be  heard  while  elements  of  doom  metal  are  used  in  the  slower  guitar  riffs.

  Melodies  can  also  be  heard  in  the  music  at  times  and  some  of  the  fast  parts  utilize  tremolo  picking  which  also  gives  the  music  more  of  a  raw  black  metal  feeling  and  there  is  also  a  brief  use  of  spoken  word  parts  and  you  can  also  hear  all  of  the  musical  instruments  that  are  present  on  the  recording  and  some  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length  and  most  of  the  music  while  it  has  its  mid  paced  and  fast  moments  sticks  to  mostly  a  slow  musical  direction  and  the  last  track  closes  with  choir  vocals.

  Above  Aurora  plays  a  musical  style  that  takes  a  more  guitar  driven  style  of  black  metal  and  mixes  it  with  doom  to  create  a  style  of  their  own,  the  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  dark  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Above  Aurora  are  a  very  great  sounding  atmospheric  mixture  of  black  and  doom  metal  and  if  you  are  a fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Open  The  Wounds"  and  "Non  Salva  Me".  8  out  of  10.
