1.For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about the band?
K: We're Moeror from Greece and we play black metal. We started in 2018, and after the 2019 Sag EP we are releasing this year our debut album 'The Ghosts of Amour Propre'. Our style can be described as experimental to not piss off any kvlt black metalheads out there.
2.So far you have released an ep and a full length, musically how do they both differ from each other?
K: The first thing someone will notice is the heavy use of synthesizers. It was something we always wanted to do, and it took us a while to incorporate in our way of composing. Sag was more raw and personal, musically and lyrically as well. The Ghosts of Amour Propre draws inspiration from a different place. We always try to explore a different side of ourselves as musicians and since we had total control over the recording and mixing this time we pushed ourselves even more.
3.What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band has explored on both of the releases?
X: As stated before, Sag is more personal, filled with denial and grief. It's almost a diary about the feelings I had around that period. 'The Ghosts of Amour Propre' is driven by humanity's way of life in relation to the 'sustainable happiness' of today and the progress of the species. Driven by the hunt for material wealth and the expansion of mental poverty and loneliness; by the emotional alienation and urban decline. To sum it up, it's how I perceive the dusk of humanity through the eyes of a watcher/wanderer.
4.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Moeror'?
G: Moeror means grief in latin. The word felt striking to us and grief/anxiety plays a big part in the human condition.
5.Can you tell us a little bit more about the artwork that is presented on the new album cover?
G: The cover photography on the "The Ghosts of Amour Propre" depicts the sides of two buildings.
We wanted something minimal, that captures the feeling of being trapped in the modern world.
This relentless urban hell is the main inspiration behind Moeror.
6.Has the band done any live shows yet or open to the idea?
G: The band hasn't done any live shows yet and lives are not in the band's priorities for the moment.
We try to focus on writing and releasing music.
Although, if the moment feels right we are open to the idea.
7.The new album was released on 'Black Theta', can you tell us a little bit more about this label?
K: Black Theta was formed in 2020 by Giannis and I, in order to house Moeror's music. We felt the need to have total control over our music, so we went for it. From recording and producing the album, to the marketing and distribution, everything is handled by us.
It's a lot of work when you don't have a label backing you up, but when you do things yourself it's way more satisfying.
8.On a worldwide level how has the reaction been to your music by fans of avant garde and black metal?
G: Well, so far the reaction has been good and we are very pleased.
Nonetheless, the band's audience is small, so we try to promote our music as much as possible.
9.What is going on with 'Nekkar' these days, a band that shares most of the same members and also how does their musical style differ from with what you are doing with 'Moeror'?
G: Nekkar are currently on hiatus, but there are discussions on releasing new music someday in the future.
K: Moeror are as far as possible from Nekkar for me. Not only in style, since Moeror are based in black metal, but also because Nekkar had a collectivist culture, everything was created by all of us. In Moeror we value artistic experimentation above all.
10.Where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?
G: It's kind of early, but from new songs in progress, the band dives deeper into more experimental paths.
We feel that as musicians, we should try to bring something more every release. To grow.
Either way, we write music we first of all enjoy to listen.
11.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?
G: We draw inspiration from all metal genres. The Polish black metal scene and especially Furia, Odraza, Gruzja and Kły are a big influence to us. Dodheismgard, Ved Buens Ende and In The Woods... are also musicians we highly admire.
Lately, we enjoy the post-punk/darkwave scene, mainly Molchat Doma, Kælan Mikla and Selofan.
