Black Earth/Gnarled Ritual Of Self Annihilation/Cyclic Law/Sentient Ruin Laboratories/2019 CD Review

  Spain's  Black  Earth  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  mixing black  metal,  industrial,  ritual,  harsh  noise,  drone  and  dark  ambient  together  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2019  album  "Gnarled  Ritual  Of  Self  Annihilation"  which  will  be  released  on  September  27th  as  a  joint  effort  between  Cyclic  Law  and  Sentient  Ruin  Laboratories.

  Ritualistic  soundscapes  and  demonic  voices  start  off  the  album  while  the  music  also  brings  in  a  great  amount  of  atmospheric  sounding  drones.  Percussion  can  also  be  heard  in  some  parts  of  the  recording  while  the  music  also  mixes  in  a  great  amount  of  harsh  noise  elements  and  some  of  the tracks  are  very  long  and  epic  in  length.

  Heavy  guitar  riffs  are  also  added  into  some  parts  of  the  music  while  black  metal  screams  are  also  added  into  certain  sections  of  the  recording.  Elements  of  death  industrial  and  dark  ambient  can  also  be  heard  quite  a  bit  throughout  the  album  and  when  tremolo  picking  is  utilized  it  also gives  the  songs  more  of  a  raw  feeling.

  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  chaotic  style  as  well  as  all  of  the  tracks  sounding  very  different  from  each  other  along  with  the  music  also  getting  very  experimental  and  avant  garde  sounding  at  times.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  while  the  lyrics  cover  darkness,  occultism,  rituals  and  left  hand  path  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  album  from  Black  Earth  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  black metal,  death  industrial,  ritual,  harsh  noise  and  dark  ambient,  you  should  check  out  this  recording.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Doctrines  Of  Dissociation"  "The  Sharp  Blade  That  Mutilates  The  Void"  and  "The  MOrning  Waters  Where  Fires  Never  Dwell".  8  out  of  10.

  Black  Earth  are  a  band  from  Spain  that  has  had  music  reviewed  before  in  this  zine  and  on  this  recording  plays  a  mixture  of  raw  black  metal,  ritual,  drone,  dark  ambient  and  harsh  noise  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2015  album  "A  Cryptic  Howl  Of  Morbid  Truth"  which  will  be  re-issued  on  vinyl  in  November  of  2018  by  Sentient  Ruin  Laboratories.

  Dark  soundscapes  start  off  the  album  before  adding  in  some  raw  and  melodic  riffs  that  also  use  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  along  with  some  power  sounding  bass  guitars  in  the  background  as  well  as  the  vocals  being  mostly  grim  black  metal screams  and  at  times  the  music  gets  very  experimental.

  Spoken  word  parts  can  also  be  heard  in  certain  sections  of  the  recording  while  some  songs  also  add  in  drones  and  harsh  noises  which  also  gives  the  music  more  of  a  ritualistic  feeling  along  with  elements  of  dark  ambient  also  being  added  into  certain  sections  of  the  recording  and  as  the  album  progresses  fast  riffs  with  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  are  brought  into  the  music  briefly  and  the  closing  track  is  very  long  and  epic  in  length.

  On  this  recording  Black  Earth  took  black  metal,  drone,  dark  ambient,  ritual  and  drone  and  mixes  them  together  to  create  something  very  original,  the  production  sounds  very  dark,  raw  and  lo-fi  while  the  lyrics  cover  occultism,  darkness  and  death  along  with  some  inspirations  from  the  writings  of  Julius  Evola.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  a  very  great  sounding  recording  from  Black  Earth  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  black  metal,  ritual,  drone,  dark  ambient  and  harsh  noise,  you  should  check  out  this  vinyl  re-issue.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "A  Cryptic  Howl  Of  Morbid  Truth"The  Severed  Head  Of  The  Crow"  and  "Ride  The  Tiger  Along  Kali  Yuga".  8  out  of  10.

  Black  Earth  are  a  band  from  Spain  that  plays  a  ritualistic  mixture  of  raw  black  metal,  industrial,  noise  and  dark  ambient  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2016  ep  "Diagrams  Of  A  Hidden  Order"  which  was  re-issued  in 2018  by  Sentient  Ruin  Laboratories.

  Ritualistic  soundscapes  and  spoken  word  parts  start  off  the  ep  along  with  some  elements  of  drone  before  going  into  a  heavier  direction  which  also  introduces  grim  black  metal  screams  onto  the  recording  while  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  bring  in  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  which  also  gives  the  songs  a  more  raw  feeling.

  At  times  the  music  gets  very  lo-fi  while  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  most  of  the  tracks  being  long  and  epic  in  length  along  with  some  demonic  growls  also  being  added  into  certain  sections  of  the  recording  as  well  as  mixing  in  some  elements  of  harsh  noise,  dark  ambient  and  death  industrial.

  Black  Earth  plays  a  style  of  black  metal  that  is  very  raw  and  ritualistic  while  the  industrial,  noise  and  dark  ambient  elements  gives  the  songs  more  originality,  the  production  sounds  very  dark,  raw  and  lo-fi  while  the  lyrics  cover  Occultism  and  Sacred  Geometry  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Black  Earth  are  a  very  great  sounding  ritualistic  mixture  of  raw  black  metal, h arsh  noise,  industrial  and  dark  ambient  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "To  Cloak  A  Nebulous  Sun".  8  out  of  10.
