Shaidar Logoth/Chapter III;: The Void God/Sentient Ruin Laboratories/2020 Full Length Review

Shaidar  Logoth  are  a  band  from  Minnesota  that  has  had  music  reviewed  before  in  this  zine  and  on  this  recording  plays  a  very  dissonant  and  ambient  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review of  their  2020  album  "Chapter  III:  The  Void  God"  which  will  be  released  in  November  by  Sentient  Ruin  Laboratories.

Clean  playing  starts  off  the  album  while  the  solos  and  leads  are  also  done  in  a  very  distorted  yet  melodic  style.  Most  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length  while  the  heavier  riffs  also  add  in  a  decent  amount  of  melody  and  when  the  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats  and  tremolo  picking  can  be  heard  which  also  gives  the  songs  more  of  a  raw  feeling.

Vocals  are mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  while  the  songs  also  add  in  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.  Whispered  vocals  can  also  be  heard  briefly  along  with  some  ambient  elements  also  being  added  into  some  parts  of  the  recording  as  well  as  the  riffs  also  adding  in  a  decent  amount  of  dissonant  structures,  at  times  the  vocals  also  adopt  a  more  grim  yet  grim  approach  and  clean  playing  also  makes  a  return  on  the  closing  track.

On  this  recording  Shaidar  Logoth  remain  true  to  the  guitar  driven  ambient  and  dissonant  style  of  black  metal  that  was  established  on  their  previous  release.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and r aw  while  the  lyrics  cover  darkness,  despair  and  hatred  themes.

In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  album  from  Shaidar  Logoth  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  ambient  and  dissonant  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  recording.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Anguish  Cradle"  and  "Withered  On  The  Vine".  8  out  of  10.

Shaidar Logoth/Chapter II: The Ritualist/Sentient Ruin Laboratories/2018 LP Re-Issue Review

Shaidar  Logoth  are  a  band  from Minnesota  that  plays  an  ambient form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2015  album  "Chapter  II:  The  Ritualist"  which  was  re-issued  in  2018  on  vinyl  by  Sentient  Ruin  Laboratories.

Militant  drum  beats  start  off  the  album  along  with  some  dark  soundscapes  before  going  into  a  heavier  musical  direction  while  spoken  word  parts  can  also  be  heard  briefly  as  well  as  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  also  bringing  in  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  which  also  gives  the  songs  more  of  a  raw  feeling.

At  times  the  music  gets  very  dissonant  while  the  vocals  are  mostly  grim  black  metal  screams  that  are  somewhat  buried  underneath  the  chaos  along  with  all  of  the  tracks  being  very  long  and  epic  in  length  as  well  as  the  songs  also  bringing  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  and  at  times  the  music  also  brings  in  elements  of  ambient  and  drone  and  synths  and  clean  playing  are  also  utilized  briefly  and  as  the  album  progresses  demonic  growls  and  melodic  guitar  leads  are  also  added  into  the  music.

Shaidar  Logoth  plays  a  style  of  ambient  black  metal  that  is  very  guitar  driven  raw  and  dissonant  sounding,  the  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  darkness,  despair,  hatred  and  wheel  of  time  themes.

In  my  opinion  Shaidar  Logoth  are  a  very  great  sounding  raw  and  dissonant  black  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  re-issue.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "The  Scourge"  and  "A  Realm  Befitting  His  Majesty".  8  out  of  10.
