Dusk/Bunker/2026 Full Length Review

 

  Costa  Rica's  Dusk  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for  an  experimental  and  industrial  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  released  album  "Bunker"  which  will  be  released  in  February.

  Apocalyptic  sounding  synths  and  soundscapes  start  off  the  album  and  also  mixes  in  with  the  heavier  sections  of  the  songs  at  times.  Industrial  style  beats  are  also  utilized  quite  a  bit  throughout  the  recording  while  the  vocals  also  add  in  a  good  amount  of  black  metal  screams  and  blast beats  are  added  into  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs.

  When  tremolo  picking  is  added  into  the  faster  riffing  they  also  give  the  album  more  of  a  raw  feeling  while  spoken  words  and  industrial  style  vocals  are  added  into  some  sections  of  the  recording  along  with  the  songs  also  adding  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  as  well  as  the  music  also  having  its  experimental  moments.

   When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  dark  yet  melodic  style  along  with  one   song  also  adding  in  a  brief  use  of  spoken  words  and  acoustic  guitars,  a  couple  of  tracks  are  very  long  and  epic  in  length  and  they  also  bring  in  an  instrumental  as  well  as  some  of  the  riffing  also  adding  in  a  small  amount  of  melody  and  the  album  closes  with  a  Burzum  cover.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  post  apocalyptic  themes.  

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  album  from  Dusk  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  experimental  and  industrial  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  recording.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "L"  "IV"  and  "Dunkelheir  (RMX)".  8  out  of  10.

Dusk/Repoka/2025 EP Review

 

  Costa  Rico's  Dusk  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for  an  atmospheric  and  industrial  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  released  2025  ep  "Repoka"  which  will  be  released  in  August.

  Industrial  soundscapes  and  beats  start  off  the  ep  and  also  mixes  in  with  the  heavier  sections  of  the  songs  at  times.  Spoken  words  can  also  be  heard  on  a  few  tracks  while  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  along  with  the  riffs  also  adding  in  a  decent  amount  of  melody.

  At  times  the  music  also  gets  very  atmospheric  sounding  while  the  harsh  vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams.  When  the  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  can  be  heard  which  also  gives  the  songs  more  of  a  raw  feeling  along  with  the  tracks  also  adding  in a   good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.  

Elements  of  doom  metal  can  also  be  heard  in  the  slower  sections  of  the  recording.  Synths  are  also  utilized  at  times  and  all  of  the  drum  beats  are  also  programmed  as  well  as  the  closing  track  also  being  a  Slayer  cover. The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  shamanism,  demons  and  darkness  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  from  Dusk  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  atmospheric  and  industrial  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  ep.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Dark  Shaman"  and  "Raining  Blood".  8  out  of  10.

Dusk/Industrie/2024 Full Length Review

 

  Costa  Rica's  Dusk  has  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for  an  experimental,  atmospheric  and  industrial  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  released  2024  album  "Industrie"  which  will  be  released  in  May.

  Synths  start  off  the  album  before  going  into  a  heavier  direction  while  also  introducing  industrial  elements  and  beats  into  the  music.  Vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  along  with  the  music  also  going  into  more  of  an  experimental  direction  at  times  and  the  slower  sections  of  the  songs  also  add  in  touches  of  doom  metal.

  The  album  also  has  its  atmospheric  moments  while  melodies  can  also  be  heard  in  some  of  the  guitar  riffing.  All  of  the  drum  beats  are  also  programmed  along  with  one  song  also  introducing  demonic  sounding  growls  onto  the  album  as  well  as  some  spoken  word  parts  also  being  added  into  certain  sections  of  the  recording,  when  the  music  finally  speeds  up  a  small  amount  of  blast b eats  can  also  be  heard  and  the  closing  track  is  a  cover  of  Mayhem's  "Freezing  Moon".

  On  this  album  Dusk  takes  their  industrial  style  of  black  metal  into  more  of  an  experimental  direction.  The  production  sounds  very  raw  and  heavy  while  the  lyrics  are  all  conceptually  linked  together.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Dusk  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  industrial  and  experimental  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Industrie  I"  "Industrie  V"  and  "Freezing  Moon".  8  out  of  10.

Dusk/Rethronody/2023 Full Length Review

 

  Costa  Rica's  Dusk  has  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for  an  atmospheric  and  industrial  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  released  2023  album  "Rethronody"  which  will  be  released  in  may.

 

 Dark  soundscapes  start  off  the  album  before  adding  in  some effects,  electronic  and  industrial  style  beats  which  also  mixes  in  with  the  heavier  sections  of  the  songs  at  times.  All  of  the  drum  beats  are  also  programmed  while  the  synths  also  give  the  music  more  of  an  atmospheric  touch  when t hey  are  utilized.

  Spoken  word  parts  and  whispers  can  also  be  heard  on  a  couple  of  songs  while  all  of t he  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.  High  pitched  black  metal  scream  are  also  a  very  huge  part  of  the  recording  along  with  some  clear  chants  also  being  utilized  briefly  and  some  of  the  riffing  also  adds  in  a lot  of  melody, when  the  music  speeds  up  a  small  amount  of  blast  beats  can  also  be  heard  and  they  also do  an  industrial  version  of  a  Metallica  song  on  the  closing  track.

  On  this  recording  Dusk  focuses  more  on  the  electro-industrial  style  of  their  musical  sound  as  well  as  reining  some  of  the  black  metal  elements  of  earlier  releases.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  are  a  concept  album  revolving  around  the  themes  of  Rethronody.

  On  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Dusk  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  industrial  and  atmospheric  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUD E "Rethronody  II"  and  "Rethronody  VI".  8  out  of  10.

        

Dusk/The Relic/2022 Full Length Review

 

  Costa  Rica's  Dusk  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for  more  of  an  atmospheric  and  industrial  style  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  released  2022  album  "The  Relic"  which  will  be  released  in  April.

  Dark  sounding  synths  start  off  the  album  along  with  a  brief  use  of  spoken  word  samples  before  adding  in  some  elements  of  industrial  which  also  mixes  in  with  the  heavier  sections  of  the  songs.  Vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  while  all  of  the  drum  beats  are  also  programmed  and  at  times  the  music  also  mixes  in  touches  of  dark  step  and  other  forms  of  electronic  music.

  Most  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length  while  the  music  also  has  its  atmospheric  moments.  Growls  can  also  be  heard  in  some  parts  of  the  recording  along  with  all  of  the  songs  also  sounding  very  different  from  each  other  as  well  as  the  spoken  word  samples  also  making  a  return  in  certain  sections  of  the  album  and  most  of  the  music  sticks  to  either  a  slow  or  mid  tempo  direction.

  On  this  recording  Dusk  focuses  more  on  the  industrial  and  electric  side  of  their  musical  style  as  well  as  mixing  in  elements  of  atmospheric  black  metal  to  create  something  very  heavy  and  diverse.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  occultism  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Dusk  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  atmospheric  and  industrial  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Relic  I"  and  "Relic  V">  8  out  of  10.

Dusk/The Hermit/2021 Full Length Review

 

  Dusk  are  a  band  from  Costa  Rica  that  has  been  featured  before  in  this  zine  and  plays  an  industrial form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  album  "The  Hermit"  which  will  be  self  released  in  2021.

  Dark  soundscapes  start  off  the  album  while  also  introducing  programmed  beats  and  industrial  elements  a  few  seconds  later  which  also  mixes  in  with  the  heavier  sections  of  the  music.  Melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  along  with  the  faster  sections  also  adding  in  a  great  amount  of  programmed  blast  beats.

  Vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  while  one  of  the  tracks  also  introduces  spoken  word  parts  onto  the  recording.  The  songs  also  add  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  the  guitar  leads  also  being  done  in  a  very  dark  style  along  with  some  growls  also  being  utilized  briefly.

  A  couple  of  songs  also  having  brief  interludes  in  between  them., a  couple  of  the  songs  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length  and  as  the  album  progresses  a  brief  use  of  stringed  instruments  can  also  be  heard  along  with  the  music  also  adding  in  some atmospheric  and  dark  step  touches.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  heavy  while  the  lyrics are  a  concept  album  involving  hermits  and  desolation  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Dusk  and  if  you  are  a fan  of  industrial black  metal,  you  should check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Desolation  I"   "Desolation  III"  and  "Hermit  V".8out  of  10.

Dusk Interview

1.For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about the band?
We are an INDUSTRIAL BLACK METAL project from Costa Rica.

2.Recently you have released an ep, musically how does it differ from the stuff you have released in the past?
In the past we had a much more mainstream Industrial sound now we focus on atmospheric black industrial.

3.What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band explores with the newer music and also how would you describe your progress as songwriters over the years?
The main subject now is occult writings and demonology.

4.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Dusk'?
DUSK is the absence of light, the darker stage of twilight.

5.Can you tell us a little bit more about the artwork that is presented on the new ep cover?
The cover of the EP Threnody is the ruins of the very first Catholic Church ever built in Costa Rica and marks the beginning of the Catholic regime in our country.

6.What are some of the best shows that the band has played over the years and also how would you describe your stage performance?
We will have our first live show ever this October 2019, opening for the legendary SAMAEL, our show is incredibly unique and extreme.

7.Do you have any touring or show plans for the new ep?
After opening for SAMAEL we will probably have tour plans coming soon.

8.The new ep was released on 'Ritter Records’; can you tell us a little bit more about this label?
RITTER RECORDS is our own music label where we publish our music for the moment, we have received other Label offers but there is no contract just yet.

9.On a worldwide level how has the reaction been to your newer music by fans of industrial and black metal?
We have received incredibly positive feedback, even though Industrial Black Metal is a very underground genre

10.When can we expect another full length and also where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?
We are planning right now another “EP” same style but with a different approach.

11.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music on also what are you listening to nowadays?
I have to say: ABORYM, ANNAL NATHTRACK, BLUT AUS NORD, THE AXIS OF PERDITION, MISTICUM, IPERYT, and others.

12.Does Occultism play any role in your music?
Plays a great influence but we don’t follow any rules lyrically or musically.

  Dark  soundscapes  start  off  the  ep  along  with  a  brief  use  of  rain  and  bell  sounds  as  well  as  a  brief  use  of  whispers  and  background  voices  before  going  into  a  heavier  direction.  Industrial  elements  are  also  added  into  the  heavier  sections  of  the  music  along  with  all  of  the  drum  beats  being  programmed.

  A  small  amount  of  dissonant  melodies  can  also  be  heard  in  the  guitar  riffing  along  with  some  synths  also  being  added  into  some  parts  of  the  music. Vocals  also  bring  in  a  mixture  of  bestial  growls  and  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  as  well  as  the  songs  also  adding  in  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.
