Chanid/Kerygma/2023 EP Review

 

  Poland's  Chanid  has  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for  an  old  school  form  of  occult  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their self. released  2023  ep  "Kerygma"  which  will  be  released  in  December.

  Spoken  word  parts  start  of  the  ep  before  going  into  a  very  fast  and  raw  musical  direction  which  also  utilizes  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats.  Vocals  are  mostly  grim  sounding  black  metal  screams  while  all  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.

  Melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  while  the  songs  also  add  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow, mid  paced  and  fast  parts.  Most  of  the  music  is  also  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  old  school  era  along  with  some  keyboards  also  being  utilized in  certain  sections  of  the  recording  and  the  solos  and  leads  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  style.

  On  this  recording  Chanid  remains  true  to  the  old  school  style  of  occult  black  metal  that  they  have  established  and  previous  releases.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  Luciferian,  left  Hand  Path  and  Occultism  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Chanid  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  old  school  occult  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  ep.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Luciferian  Hypostasis".  8  out  of  10.

Chanid/In Hoc Signo Vinces/Black Vault Productions/2020 EP Review

  Chanid  are  a  band  from  Poland  that  plays  an  old  school  form  of  occult  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2020  ep  "In  Hoc  Signo  Vinces"  which  was  released  by  Black  Vault  Productions.

  Sounds  of  wind,  rain  and  thunder  start  off  the  ep  along  with  a  brief  use  of  orchestra  elements  while  operatic  female  vocals  can  also  be  heard  briefly  before  going  into  a  very  fast  and  raw  musical  direction  which  also  uses  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  and  the  music  is  also  heavily  rooted  in  the  90's  era.

  Vocals  are  mostly  grim  sounding  black  metal  screams  while  the  riffs  also  add  in  a  great  amount  of  melody.  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  having  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.

  On  this  recording  Chanid  takes  their  old  school  style  of  occult  black  metal  into  more  of  a  melodic  direction  but  also  keeping  around  the  raw  aggression.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  continue  the  story  of  Lucifer  that  was  introduced  on  previous  releases.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Chanid  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  melodic  and  old  school  occult  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  ep.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "In  Hoc  Signo  Vinces"  and  "Enlightenment".  8  out  of  10.

Chanid/Lucifer/Casus Belli Musica/Beverina/2018 CD Review

  Chanid  are  a  band  from  Poland  that  plays  an  old  school  form  of  occult  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2018  album  "Lucifer"  which  was  released  as  a  joint  effort  between  Casus  Belli  Musica  and  Beverina.

  A  very  dark  and  ritualistic  sounding  intro starts  off  the  album  before  going  into  a  very  fast  and  raw  musical  direction  which  also  uses  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats  and  tremolo  picking  while  the  vocals  are  mostly  grim  black  metal  screams  along  with  the  riffs  also  bringing  in  a  great  amount  of  melody.

  A  great  amount  of  90's  influences  can  also  be  heard  in  the  music  while  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  as  well  as  all  of  the  musical  instruments  having  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  when  guitar  solos  and  leads a re  utilized  they  are  done  in  a  very  melodic  style.

  Chanid  plays  a  style  of  occult  black  metal  that  is  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  90's,  the  production  sounds  very  raw  and  old  school  while  the  lyrics  are  a  concept  album  dealing  with  the  loneliness  and  suffering  of  Lucifer.

  In  my  opinion  Chanid  are  a  very  great  sounding  old  school  occult  black  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  recording.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Evocation  Of  Lucifer"  "Under  the  Sign  Of  Lucifer"  and  "Stagnant  Hours".  8  out  of  10.
