Häxanu/Greve/Naturmystik/Purity Through Fire/Amor Fati Productions/2024 Split Album Review

 

  This  is  a  review  of  a  split  album  between  U.S.A's  Häxanu  and  Sweden's  Greve  called  "Naturmystik"  which  will  be  released  on  May  24th  as  a  joint  effort  between  Purity  Through  Fire  and  Amot  Fati  Productions  and  we  will  start  off  the  rteview  with  Häxanu  who  return  with  their  occult  style  of  black  metal.

  Their  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  atmospheric  sounding  synths  before  going  into  more  of  a  heavier  and  melodic  direction.  When  the  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  can  be  heard  which  also  gives  the  songs  more  of  a  raw  feeling  and  the  vocals  are  mostly  angry  sounding  black  metal  screams.

  All  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  along  with  the  songs  also  adding  in a   good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  style.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  and  the  lyrics  cover  Occultism  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Häxanu  and  if  you  are  a f an  of  occult  black  emtal,  you  should  check  out  their  side  of  the  split.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Mercy"  and  "The  Winged  Chalice".

  Next  up  is  Greve  who  return  their  their  keyboard  orientated  style  of  old  school  black  metal.

  Their  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  a  very  fast  and r aw  sound  which  also  utilizes  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats.  Vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal s creams  while  the  riffs  also  add  in a   great  amount  of  melody  and  the  solos  and  leads  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  style.

  Most  of  the  music  is  also  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  mid  90's  era  along  with  the  keyboards  also  adding  in  some  atmospheric  touches.  The  songs  also  add  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  as  well  as  most  of  the  tracks  also  being  very  long  and  epic  in  length,  clean  playing  can  also  be  heard  briefly.  The  production  sounds  very  raw  and  old  school  while  the  lyrics a re  written  in  Swedish  and  cover  blasphemy,  darkness  and  folklore  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Greve  aand  if  you  are  a  fan  of  keyboard  orientated  old  school  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  their  side  of  the  split.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Gudaföraktets  Ton"  and  "Myllan  av  det  Förgångna'.

  In  conclusion  I  feel  this  is  a  very  great  sounding  split  and  I  would  recommend  it  to  all  fans  of  old  school  and  atmospheric  black  metal.  8  out  of  10.

Häxanu/Totenpass/Amor Fati Productions/2023 Full Length Review

 

  Häxanu  are  a  duo  from  Pennsylvania  that  has  had  music  reviewed  before  in  this  zine  and  plays  an  occult  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  2023  album  "Totenpass"  which  will  be  released  by  in  February  Amor  Fati  Productions.

  Water  sounds  and  acoustic  guitars  start  off  the  album  before  going  into  more  of  a  heavier  and  melodic  musical  direction.  All  of  the  instruments  on  the  recording  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  while t he  faster  sections  of t he  songs  also  ad d in  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast b eats  which  also  gives  the  music  more  of  a  raw  feeling.

  Vocals a re  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  while  the  song  also  adds  in  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.  At  times  the  vocals  also  go  into  more  of  a  deep  and  angrier  direction  along  with  a  great  portion  of  the  tracks  also  being  very  long  and  epic  in  length  and  the  music  also  shows  some  influences  of  the  classic  Nordic  and  Hellenic  styles  of  the  genre.

  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  along  with  the  synths  also  giving  the  music  more  of  an  atmospheric  feeling  when  they  are  utilized  as  well  as  some  tracks  also  adding  in  a  small  amount  of  clean  playing  and  a  later  track  is  also  a  brief  acoustic  instrumental.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  Occultism,  Darkness  and  Death  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from Häxanu  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  occult  black metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Death  Euphoria"  and  "Totenpass".  8  out  of  10.

Häxanu/Snare Of All Salvation/Armor Fati Productions/2020 CD Review

  Häxanu  is  a  solo  project  from  Pennsylvania  that  plays  an  occult  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  2020  album  "Snare  of  All  Salvation"  which  will  be  released  in  April  by  Armor  Fati  Productions.

  Fie;d  recordings  start  off  the  album  along  with some  synths  a  few  seconds  later  which  also  mixes  in  with  the  heavier  sections  of  the  music  at  times.  The  riffs  also  add  in  a  decent  amount  of  melody  while  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  also  add  in  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats  and  tremolo  picking  which  also  gives  the  music  more  of  a  raw  feeling.

  Vocals  are  mostly  grim  yet  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  while  some  of  the  tracks  are  very  long  and  epic  in  length.  All  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  also heave  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  along  with  the  music  also  adding  in  a  great  amount  of  90's  influences,  the  songs  also  add  in  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts and  as  the  album  progresses  a  brief  use  of  clean  playing  can  also  be  heard  on  a  few  tracks  and  when  guitar  leads  are  utilized  they  are  done  in  a  very  melodic  style.

  Häxanu  plays  a  style  of  occult  black  metal  that  is  very  raw,  aggressive  and  atmospheric  sounding.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  alchemy  and  neoplatonism  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Häxanu  are  a  very  great  sounding  occult  black  metal  solo  project  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Materia  Prima"  and  "Snare  of  All  Salvation".  8  out  of  10.
