1.For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about the band?
Black Eucharist is the continuation of impiety and blasphemy begun by Infestor and Shemhamforash in Black Ejaculate with the addition of Gravepisser. Our aim is to desecrate the altar of the deceiver and reveal the lies spread by a wandering charlatan through a traditional USBM sound in the vein of Profanatica, Demoncy, and VON, among others.
2.In June you have your first full length coming out, musically how does it differ from your previous demo?
“Inn of the Vaticide” expands on our stylistic approach to our demo while retaining some of its musical simplicity and certainly its lyrical repulsion. On the demo we were aiming for something very much on the nose in USBM without much deviation, but we wanted to explore our own ideas and sound more on the full length. Songs are more fleshed out and more effort overall was put into the release without sacrificing the primitive nature of the demo.
3.This is also your first release in 4 years, can you tell us a little bit more about what has been going on during that time frame?
Mostly writing this LP, recording it, and figuring out the best methods of heresy we could accomplish. A lot of things were cut and rewritten. We’d rather take our time and write a quality release than rush something out to stay relevant. With that being said, don’t expect LP2 out in a year or two. We’ve also been focused on other projects which takes time away from BE, but we’re still grinding out new material when we can.
4.A lot of your lyrics cover Anti Christianity and Blasphemy themes, can you tell us a little bit more about your hatred for this religion?
All of the lyrics were derived of stories or concepts I (Infestor) experienced and was taught growing up in the church. It was something forced upon me growing up in a small southern US town, not just by those close to me, but by the community at large. All religion is inimical, but since Christianity is the one I was raised in and am most familiar with it became the target of our hostility.
5.Do the band members also have any interest in Occultism or Satanism?
To a certain degree, yes, but not in a religious sense. There’s a little bit of spiritualism and occult exploration with the other members and I myself do like exploring the high concepts and tenets of those ideologies, but I wouldn’t say any of us actively practice it as far as I know.
6.Originally the band was called 'Black Ejaculate', what was the cause of the name change and also the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Black Eucharist'?
When we were wrapping up the writing process for “Inn of the Vaticide” we felt that the old name didn’t quite convey what we were aiming for with the release. The black seed of blasphemy is evil, but the black sacrament of communion allows our message to be spread across all the lips of the faithful who drink from our cup, which is where Black Eucharist came from.
7.All of the band members also play in other bands what is it that you bring into the music of 'Black Eucharist' that you have not been able to do with your other groups?
For myself, Demiser focuses more on Satanic and alcoholic blasphemy and Primitive Warfare on Satanic blasphemy somewhat as well, whereas Black Eucharist is straightforward anti-Christian anti-Christ black metal with no mentions of Satan whatsoever. Our entire focus is on profaning the word of Nazareth’s famed swindler. There’s a musical style that can’t be captured in those other projects as well, Demiser is too technical and PW too one tracked to explore USBM like this. BE gives the freedom to try new concepts without giving up stylistic integrity.
8.Can you tell us a little bit more about the artwork that is presented on the new album cover?
The art is a circa 1640 piece called “Circumcision of Son of Moses” by Jan Baptist Weenix, which is currently in the National Museum of Warsaw collection. It depicts the biblical verse our title track is based on when Moses and Zipporah didn’t circumcise their son and were attacked by angels until Zipporah was forced to perform the circumcision with a piece of flint she found on the ground. Only a truly loving lord would sick sword wielding angels on you for not cutting off part of your son’s cock. The back of the LP is also by Weenix.
9.Has the band done any live shows or open to the idea?
We’ve done them before as Black Ejaculate with our current lineup so it’s not impossible that we’d do them again. It would be a while, our other bands are taking a lot of our time away from our jobs so it’s hard to fit it in the schedule. Plus, Shemhamforash being a 12 hour drive away from Gravepisser and I makes practicing difficult, but we’ll likely get to work on that and hopefully have something to show for it next year.
10.On a worldwide level how has the reaction been to your music by fans of black metal?
Limited, but those who have heard it are enjoying it. We’ve only released singles so far and I think once the full record is out and can be heard start to finish we’ll see more of a response.
11.What is going on with some of the other bands or musical projects these days that some of the band members are a part of?
Demiser (Infestor and Gravepisser) is about to record our second full length this month to come out on Metal Blade and Blacklight Media, a must for black/thrash maniacs. Keep an eye out for a tour later this year. Primitive Warfare (Infestor) has an LP that is currently being mixed and will be out on Stygian Black Hand once complete. They’ll play another few shows this year as well. Impest (Infestor and Gravepisser) has also recently released a demo on Headsplit records. Last year, Blood Ouroboros (Shemhamforash) released a demo on Expansion Abyss.
12.Where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?
We’ll keep expanding on the sounds we liked on this record without deviating far enough to call it something else. We may even regress on a few things which is always a benefit in this genre. USBM has a distinct flavor that is tried and true and we have no intention of trying to change that.
13.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?
Alongside the ones mentioned before, we’d also list a few non US bands like Blasphemy, Archgoat, Ride for Revenge, and Beherit. Prosanctus Inferi also was a huge influence for us, especially their Noctambulous Jaws album. Lately I’ve been listening to Incantation, the new Century album from Headsplit (which is incredible heavy metal), the Pestigore compilation also from Headsplit, Waylon Jennings, and Dead Congregation (which I’m still mad about missing on their US tour).
