Thank You for having us and this interview. We are "Dore" - a group focus on creating atmospheric black metal music inspired by artists, poets and visionaries. That is why we have chosen the name of Gustave Dore for our band's name.
2.So far you have released a single and have your first album coming out, can you tell us a little bit more about the musical style you went for on those recordings?
For each debut album the band has to "let go" everything that is inside their heads and hearts. The debut single and album is influenced by 90's black metal classics. However the music can and will evolve. We have already started working on a next single, which will be released in the first months of next year. It is going to be something new, but we don't want to spoil the surprise now.
3.The lyrics on the new recording are a concept album can you tell us a little bit more about the story you covered on the recording?
The story revolves around the myth of Lucipher, the fallen angel and the only free one, who was punished for questioning God's decisions. The Almighty created perfect angels and weak humans, prone to sin, but gave more love and affection to the faulty creations. When Lucipher questioned him, he cast him into the depths of Hell for eternal banishment.
The album's storyline begins when Lucipher gathers his army of the damned to free him. Then he begins his journey towards human realms, where he sees, that they have done much more evil than he has ever made.
Leading his army of sinners the fallen angel attacks the Pearly Gates of Heaven and destroys the defending angels in an unholy bloodstorm of violence. But when he finally reaches the Throne Room to face The Almighty and avenge his eons of banishment there is no one to be confronted... God has left his angels and humans long time ago and never returned. The album ends with Lucipher leaving Earth in search for his own new place. Behind him there is a dead world left, which was the victiom of God's injustice.
4.You also mentioned some interest in the works of William Blake and Gnostic philosophy, can you tell us a little bit more about those interests?
Of course. William Blake was very close to the gnostic movement and Dore's work is also related to it in a way. We do also think, that through knowledge and wisdom a person can ascend to become a better version of him or herself. The gnostic paradigma appeals to us, an idea of perfecting oneself.
Blake was a mystic, he reached beyound space, time and the known world with his mind. We believe in such creativity and celebrate it.
5.The band is named after and the album artwork is also inspired by 'Gustave Dore', can you tell us a little bit more about your interest in his work?
Dore's is the example of perfection - both in form and content. Elegant yet appealing, tasteful yet strong, delicate yet intense. Each of his works from "Dante's Inferno" through "Paradise Lost" up to biblic illustrations are whole worlds and stories locked in frames.
6.So far very little information is provided about the band online with only a metal archives and bandcamp page being present, do you prefer to keep a low profile?
Yes, we think that the music and focusing on our inspirators is more important than promoting ourselves.
7.Has the band done any live shows or is this strictly a studio project?
Our musical journey starts as a studio project... but the night is young and we do not say "no" to ever playing live.
8.Currently you are unsigned, are you looking for a label or have received any interest?
Yes, we are looking for a label, but knowing the situation of the market we are aware that the first step have to be taken by ourselves. Nothing's free, so at first we want to gather as many people to know and like our music. Labels are the next step, but now we are focused on gathering as much fans as we can - in the underground.
9.On a worldwide level how has the reaction been to your music by fans of black metal?
As black metal fans aren't that easy to please we are very happy for each positive review and when criticism comes - we take it into consideration. We believe in honesty so we do not engage in discussions with negative reviews. We have our way and if it doesn't suit somebody's taste? Too bad, we walk our own way.
10.Where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?
We will experiment. Even though the main weapon will still be atmospheric black metal we want to explore different inspirations - from the world of art and different music styles. The single planned for the beginning of 2020 will be something completely new. Expect the unexpected.
11.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?
Of course we can name many outstanding bands shaping our taste. Currently we listen a lot to Emperor, Immortal, older works of Dimmu Borgir and Covenant.
12.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?
We are very happy to have the freedom to create our own music and style. Such events as this interview and feedback on the internet show us that this way has potential and there is a lot of people interested in it. We will proceed!
