Lammoth/Gonemage/Aetherfrost Caverns/Fiadh Productions/2025 EP Review

 

  This  is  a  review  of  a  split  ep  between  North  Carolina's  Lammoth  and  Texas's  Gonemage  called  "Aetherfrost  Caverns"  which  will  be  released  on  October  17th  by  Fiadh  Productions  and  we  will  start  off  the  review  with  Lammoth  a  solo  project  who  returns  with  an  atmospheric  and  medieval  style  of  black  metal  with  elements  of  drum'n'bass,  breakbeats  and  N64/PSX  Soundfonts.

  His  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  some  drum'n'bass  and  breakbeat  sounds  before  going  into  a  very  fast  and  raw  musical  direction  which  also  utilizes  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats.  Vocals  are  mostly  grim  sounding  black  metal  screams  while  the  synths  also  give  the  music  more  of  an  atmospheric  and  medieval  feeling.

  Throughout  his  side  of  the  split  you  can  also  hear  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  both  of  his  tracks  also  being  very  long  and  epic  in  length,  at  times  the  music  also  captures  the  atmosphere  of   a  fantasy  orientated  video  game  soundtrack.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and r aw  while  the  lyrics  cover  by  the  writings  of  J.R.R  Tolkien.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Lammoth  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  atmospheric  and  medieval  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  his  side  of  the  split.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "In  the  Black  Winds  The  Stars  Shall  Die".

  Next  up  is  Gonemage  a  solo  project  who  returns  with  his  experimental  mixture  of  post  black  metal  and  chiptune  music.

  His  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  a  very  heavy  and  atmospheric  sound  while  synths  also  mix  in  with  the  heavier  sections  of  the  songs.  Clean  playing  and  acoustic  guitars  can  also  be  heard  briefly  along  with  the  riffs  also  adding  in  a  decent  amount  of  melody  as  well  as  the  music  also  having  its  experimental  moments.

  Chiptunes  and  video  game  sounds  also  mix  in  with  the  heavier  sections  of  the  songs  along  with  the  vocals  also  adding  in  a  mixture  of  black  metal  screams  and  death  emtal  growls.  One  of  the  tracks  is  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length,  spoken  words  can  also  be  heard  briefly.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  science  fiction  and  fantasy  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Gonemage  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  experimental  post  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  his  side  of  the  split.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Aetherhold  Embrace  And  The  Idle  Wish".

  In  conclusion  I  feel  this  is  a  very  great  sounding  split  and  I  would  recommend  it  to  all  fans  of  atmospheric  and  experimental  black  metal.  8  out  of  10.

  Dallas,  Texas's  Gonemage  has  retuned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for  more  of  an  experimental  mixture  of  post  black  metal  and  chiptune  and  this  is  a  review  of  his   2022  album  Handheld  Demise"  which  will  be  released  in  September  a s a  joint  effort  between  WereGnome  Records,  Xenoglossy and  Fiadh  Productions.

  Video  game  music  sounds  and  heavy  riffs  start  off  the  album  while  the  vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams.  Melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  along  with  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  also  adding  in  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  which  also  gives  the  music  more  of  a  raw  feeling.

  Clean  playing  is  also  added  on  some  of  the  tracks  while  spoken  word  parts  can  also  be  heard  at  times.  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  some  tracks  also  adding  in  a  small  amount  of  death  metal  growls  and  clear  singing  which  also  adds  in  a  touch  of  post  rock.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  album  from  Gonemage  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  experimental  post  black  metal  and  chiptune,  you  should  check  out  this  recording.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Disdainful  Stroke"  "The  Suffering  And  Endurance"  "The  Smelting  Madman"  and  "Chase  of  The  Daemon  Glow".  8  out  of  10.

Gonemage/Master Of Disgust/2022 EP Review

 

  Dallas,  Texas's  solo  project  Gonemage  has  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for  an  experimental  mixture  of  war,  dissonant  black,  death  metal  and  chiptune  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  self  released  2022  ep  "Master  Of  Disgust"  which  will  be  released  in  May.

  Spoken  word  parts  start  off  the  ep  before  adding  in  some  Nintendo  music  samples  and  heavier  riffing.  When  the  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  war  metal  elements,  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  can  be  heard  which  also  gives  the  songs  more  of  a  raw  feeling  and  the  vocals  are  a  mixture  of  bestial  growls  and  black  metal  screams.

  Dissonant  structures  can  also  be  heard  in  some  of  the  riffing  while  the  riffs  also  add  in  a  decent  amount  of  melody.  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  the  music  also  having  its  experimental  moments  and  the  songs  also  mix  in  a  good  amount  of  synths,  all  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.

  On  this  recording  Gonemage  takes  war  and  bestial  black/death  metal  and  mixes  it  with  experimental  and  chiptune  music  to  create  something  very  different  from  his  previous  releases.  The  production  sounds  very  raw  and  heavy  while  the  lyrics  are  a  concept  album  based  upon  the  Nintendo  character  Wario.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Goemage  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  war,  bestial  black/death  metal.  experimental  and  chiptune  music,  you  should  check  out  this  ep.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Mega  Toss  into  Crypts"  and  "Demon  Head  And  The  Reign  Of  Stench".  8  out  of  10.

  Gonemage  are  a  solo  project  from  Dallas,  Texas  that h as  had  music  reviewed  before  in  this  zine  and  on  this  recording  plays  a  mixture  of  post  black  metal  and  chiptune  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  2021  album  "Sudden  Deluge"  which  will  be  released  in  November  as  a  joint  effort  between  Xenoglossy  Productions,  Bif  Money  Cybergrind  and  Red  Truth  Productions.

  Percussion's  start  off  the  album  before  going  into  more  of  a  heavier  and  experimental  direction.  Elements  of  chiptune  are  also  utilized  quite  a  bit  throughout  the  recording  while  melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of the  guitar  riffing  and  all  of t h e musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.

  Vocals  are  a  mixture  of  depressive  black  metal  screams,  shouts  and  clean  singing  while  the  songs  also  add  in  a  great  amount  of  session  musicians  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  dark  yet  melodic  style  along  with  some  touches  of  garage  rock,  indie  and  post  hardcore  also  being  utilized  at  times.

  Acoustic  guitars  and  female  vocals  can  also  being  utilized  briefly  along  with  some  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  also  being  utilized  briefly  when  the  music  finally  speeds  up  which  also  gives  the  album  more  of  a  raw  feeling  as  well  as  one  song  also  adding  in  some  spoken  word  parts,  programmed  beats  are  also  a  very  huge  part  of  the  recording  and  the  songs  also  add  in  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  are  a  concept  album  and  continue  the  Currator's  story  from  the  previous  release  with  some  sci-fi  and  fantasy  touches. 

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  album  from  Gonemage  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  experimental  post  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  recording.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Shifted"  "{Gumubulang  Na  Alon"  "Wisteria  Sights  (Pushed  to  Extreme  Delight)"  and  "Delirium".  8  out  of  10.

  Gonemage  are  a  solo  project  from  Dallas,  Texxas  that  consists  of  a  member  from Cara  Neir  plays  a  very  experimental  and  melancholic  form  of  post  black  metal  with  elements  of  chiptune  and  shoegaze  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  2021  album  "Mystical  Extraction"  which  was  released  by  Tomb  Tree  Tapes.

  A  very  fast  and  raw  sound  starts  off  the  album  along  with  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats.  Elements  of  video  game  music  are  also  added  into  the  heavier  sections  of  the  songs  while  the  vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  depressive  black  metal  screams  and  the  music  also  has  its  experimental  moments.
