Opus Magorum are a band from Greece that plays an occult form of black metal and this is a review of their self titled 2022 album which will be released in November by Inferna Profundus Records.
A nature orientated sounding intro starts off the album before going into a very fast and raw musical direction which also utilizes a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats. Vocals are mostly high pitched black metal screams while the music is also very heavily rooted in the 90's second wave era.
Throughout the recording you can also hear a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts while most of the riffing is done on power chords. Guitar solos and leads are also absent from the recording as well as the riffing only adding in a brief use of melody and all of the music also sticks to a very raw, aggressive and heavy sound.
Opus Magorum plays a style of occult black metal t hat is very raw and old school in the 90's tradition. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover Paganism, Witchery, Archetypal Symbolism, Occultism, Vampirism, Darkness and the writings of H.P Lovecraft.
In my opinion Opus Magorum are a very great sounding raw occult black metal band and if you are a f an of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "The Vampyre" and "Journey Of The Psychonaut". 8 out of 10.
