Grave Gnosis/Pestilence Crowned/Winter Solstice/2023 Full Length Review

 

  Florida's  Grave  Gnosis  has  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for  an  atmospheric,  occult  and  satanic  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their   2023  album  "Pestilence  Crowned"  which  will  be  released  in  December  by  Winter  Solstice..

  Atmospheric  sounding  synths  start  off  the  album  and  also  mixes  in  with  the  heavier  sections  of  the  songs  at  times.  When  percussion and  spoken  word  parts  are  utilized  they  also  give  the  music  more  of  a  ritualistic  feeling  along  with  some  tracks  also  adding  in  a  small  amount  of  cellos  and  all  of t he  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.

  When  the  music  speeds  up  a  lot  of  blast b eats  can  be  heard  while some  of  the  vocals  also  add  in  more  of  a  first  wave  black  metal  vibe  as  well  as  adding  in  a  great  amount  of  grim  screams  .  Melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  and  when  tremolo  picking  is  utilized  they  also  give  the  songs  more  of  a  raw  feeling.

  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  added  into  the  music  they  are  also  done  in  a  more  melodic  style  along  with  the  songs  also  adding  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.  Some  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length   as  well  as  one  song  also  introducing  clean  playing  into  the  album,  one  track  is  also  an  instrumental.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  Death,  Occultism,  Satanism,  Left  hand  path,  Alchemy  and  Gnosticism  themes.   

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Grave  Gnosis  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  atmospheric,  satanic  and  occult  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Carnivorous  Darkness"  "Woe"  and  "The  Alchemist's  plague".  8/5  out  of  10.

Grave Gnosis/Hvile I Kaos/Towards The Nameless Darkness/Red Nebula/2022 Split EP Review

 

  This  is  a  review  of  a  split  ep  between  Florida's  Grave  Gnosis  and  California's  Hvile  I  Kaos  called  "Towards  The  Nameless  Darkness"  which  was  released  by  Red  Nebula  and  we  will  start  off  the  review  with  Grave  Gnosis  who  return  with  their  occult  style  of  black  metal.

  Their  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  some  ritualistic  soundscapes  before  going  into  a  heavier  musical  direction.  Vocals  are  mostly  angry  sounding  black  metal s creams  while  the  keyboards  also  give  the  music  more  of  a  symphonic  touch  and  when  the  music  speeds  up  a  decent  amount  of  blast  beats.

  When  tremolo  picking  is  utilized  they  also  give  the  songs  more  of  a  raw  feeling  along  with  the  solos  and  leads  also  being  done  in  a  very  melodic  style.  All  of  the  musical  instruments  on t heir  side  of  the  recording  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  as  well  as  the  songs  also  adding  in  a  decent  mixture  of  slow, mid  paced  and  fast  parts,  melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  riffing  and  both  of  the  tracks  are  long  and  epic  in  length.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  Occultism  and  Death  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Grave  Gnosis  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  occult  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  their  side  of  the  split.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Vultures".

  Next  up  is  Hvile  I  Kaos  who  returns  with  his  cellestic  mixture  of  occult  black  metal,  ritual  and  chamber  music.    

  His  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  some  tribal  style  drumming  along  with  some  cello's  a  few  seconds  later.  Elements  of  chamber  music  can  also  be  heard  quite  a  bit  throughout  his  side  of  the  recording  and  take  the  role  as  being  the  lead  instrument  and  the  ritualistic  chants  also  add  in  touches  of  black  metal  as  well  as  some  acoustic  guitars  also being  utilized  on  both  songs and  both  of  the  tracks  are  also  long  and  epic  in  length.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  while  the  song  themes  focus  on  the  Left  Hand  Path  and  the Occult.  

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording f rom  Hvile  I  Kaos  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  occult  black  metal  and  ritualistic  chamber  music,  you  should  check  out  his  side  of t he  split.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Locusts".  

  In  conclusion  I  feel  this  is  a  very  great  sounding  split  and  would  recommend  it  to  all  fans  of  occult  black  metal  and  ritualistic  chamber  music.  8  out  of  10.

Grave Gnosis/Lux Nigredo/Vargheist Records/2021 Full Length Review

 

  Grave  Gnosis  are  a  band  from  St.  Petersburg,  Florida  that  has  had  music  reviewed  before  in  this  zine  and  plays  an  atmospheric  form  of  occult  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2021  album  "Lux  Nigredo"  which  will  be  released  on  January  23rd  by  Vargheist  Records.

  Ritualistic  soundscapes  and  spoken  chants  start  off  the  album  before  going  into  a  heavier  musical  direction.  Vocals  are  mostly  grim  yet  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  while  all  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  the  riffs  also  add  in  a  decent  amount  of  dark  sounding  melodies.

  Clear  chants  can  also  be  heard  briefly  while  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats.  At  times  the  music  also  gets  very  atmospheric  sounding  along  with  the  solos  and  leads  also  being  done  in  a  very  dark  yet  melodic  style  and  when  tremolo  picking  is  utilized  it  also  gives  the  recording  more  of  a  raw  feeling.

  Clean  playing  can  also  be  heard  in  certain  sections  of  the  recording  along  with  the  cellos  being  done  by  a  member  of  Hville  I  Kaos  when  they  are  utilized.  A  great  portion  of  the  tracks  are  very  long  and  epic  in  length  as  well  as  the  songs  also  adding  in  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts

  Keyboards  can  also  be  heard  in  the  background  at  times  and  they  also  enhance  the  atmospheric  qualities  of  the  music.  A  couple  of  the  tracks  also  introduces  acoustic  guitars  onto  the  album  as  well  as  one  song  also  adding  in  a  brief  use  of  nature  sounds  along  with  the  music  also  adding  in  more  avant  garde  touches  as  the  album  progresses.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  Esotericism  Satanism,  Occultism,  Left Hand Path.  Alchemy,  Draconian,  Vampyric  Magick  and  Death  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Grave  Gnosis  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  atmospheric  occult  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Astovidat"  "Necrosophia"  "Ho  Drakon  Ho  Megas"  and  "Solipsist  Dreams".  8/5  out  of  10.

Teloch Vovin/Grave Gnosis/Transmissions/Plate XII Records/2018 Split EP Review

  This  is  a  review  of  a  split  ep  between  New  York's  Teloch  Vovin  and  Florida's  Grave  Gnosis  called  "Transmissions"  which  will  be  released  in  July  by  Plate  XII  Records  and  we  will  start  off  the  review  with  Teloch  Vovin  who  return  with  their  style  of  occult  black  metal.

  Their  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  distorted  amp  sounds  before  going  into  a  very  fast  and  raw  musical  direction  which  also  uses  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats  along  with  some  grim yet  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  while  the  song  also  brings  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.

  All  of  the  musical  instruments  on  their  side  of  the  split  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  while  the  track  is  12 minutes  in  length  along  with  a  brief  use  of  ritualistic  chimes  as  well  as  the  vocals  getting  deep  at  times  and  there  are  also  some  raw  yet  melodic  guitar  leads  also  being  used  briefly,  the  production  sounds  very  powerful  while  the  lyrics  cover  the  Qlithotic  Worlds,  The  Nightside  Emanation  of  the  Khaos  before  Creation  and  the  Tree  of  Death.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  track  from  Teloch  Vovin  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  occult  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  their  side  of  the  split.

  Next  up  is  Grave  Gnosis  a  band  that  plays  an  atmospheric  form  of  occult  black  metal.

  Their  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  some  atmospheric  sounding  keyboards  which  also  mixes  in  with  the  heavier  side  of  the  music  while  the  faster  sections  of  the  song  also  use  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats  and  tremolo  picking  which  also  gives  the  music  a  more  raw  feeling  and  the  vocals a re  mostly  grim  black  metal  screams.

  Throughout  their  side  of  the  split  you  can  also  hear  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  while  the  riffs  also  add  in  a  small  amount  of  dark  sounding  melodies  along  with  the  track  being  over  12  minutes  in  length,  ritualistic  shouts  can  also  be  heard  briefly  and  the  guitar  leads  are  done  in  a  very  melodic  and  acoustic  guitars  are  also  used  briefly,  the  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  Cherokee  Lore, Vampirism,  Heart  Chakra  Autocannibalism,  Therianthropic  Trance  and  Dilitriomancy  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Grave  Gnosis  are  a  very  great  sounding  atmospheric  occult  black  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  their  side  of  the  split.

  In  conclusion  I  think  this  is  a  very  great  sounding  split  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  occult  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  ep.  8/5  out  of  10.
