Leere Interview

1.For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about the band?
1
Leere: We began in 2004 and in 2009 we released the first album „the mystical gate to oblivion“. And now, 6 years later we released „Bleak“.

2.Recently you have released a new album, how would you describe the musical sound that is presented on the recording and also how does it differ from the stuff you have released in the past?
2
Leere: It's organic and authentic Black Metal in the style of the nineties. The new full length is more  complex and clearer than the debut.

3.The band has been around since 2004 but so far has only released 2 albums, can you tell us a little bit more about the gap between releases?
3
Leere: We filled the gap with our other bands Moonfrost and Ghost Kommando.

4.What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band explores with the music?
4
Sarcamon: The lyrical topics are personal and progressed in my very own style in the last 20 years.

5.I know that the band name means 'void' or 'emptiness' in German, how does this name fit in with the musical style that you play?
5
Leere: Our name describes the essence of the concept of Leere.

6.Currently there are only 2 members in the band, are you planning on expanding the line up in the future or do you chose to remain a duo?
6
Leere:
No, its ok like that.

7.The new album was released on Gravity Entertainment, are you happy with the support they have given you so far?
7
Leere:
Yes, we are very satisfied with Gravity.

8.On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your music by fans of black metal?
8
Leere:
We don't know 'cause we don't really care.

9.What is going on with some of the other bands or musical projects these days that some of the band members are a part of?
9
Leere:
Our other bands are very active and we're working on new material.

10.Where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?
10
Leere:
Straight forward without mercy!

11.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?
11
Sarcamon:
My interest in Metal began in 1988 and through all the years I was inspired by so many different bands and styles of music, it's infinite. Nowadays I'm musically more open than in the past.

Thorn:
In the past I was influenced by Black Metal from the nineties. Today I listen to many styles of  music, from Metal to Indie Rock to Dark Ambient.

12.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?
Sarcamon:
...when the twilight burns across the sky you'd better run and hide, the beast will roar from deep inside. -Exciter 1983-

Thorn:
Thanks for the interview!

Leere/Bleak/Gravity Entertainment/2015 CD Review

Leere  are  a  duo  from  Switzerland  that  plays  a  very  raw  and  old  school  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2015  album  "Bleak"  which  was  released  by  Gravity  Entertainment.

A  very  dark  and  slow  black  metal  sound  starts  off  the  album  along  with  soem  grim  vocals  which  also  takes  the  music  into  more  of  a  raw  direction  as  well  as  speeding  up  and  introducing  blast  beats  to  the  recording  and  the  music also  brings  in  a  great mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.

All  of the  songs  are  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  90's  second  wave  style  and  clean  playing  and  acoustic  guitars  can also  be  heard  in certain sections  of  the  recording  along with  a  small  amount of  spoken  word  parts  and  some of the  songs  also  bring  in  atmospheric  synths  at  times  and  there  are  also  a  few  tracks  that  are  long  and  epic  in length  and  the  vocals  get  more  angry  as  the  album  progresses  and  they  close  the  album  with  an  instrumental  outro  that  also  adds  an  avant  garde  ending  to  the  recording.

Leere  plays  a  style  of black  metal  that  is  very  raw  and  old  school  and  has  a  very  vintage  90's  sound  and  all  of  the  songs  sound  like  they  could  of  easily  been  recorded  and  released  during  that  era,  the  production  sounds  very  raw  and  old school   while  the  lyrics  cover dark  themes.

In  my  opinion  Leere  are  a  very  great  sounding  raw  and  old  school  black  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Bleak"  and  "Spiritual  Emigration".  8  out  of  10.
