Inverted Saint Interview

1.For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about the band?

Jan: The band was founded in 2021, when we started band rehearsals in Stuttgart. But some of the songs on our album date back to an earlier time, as I already tried to start a Black Metal band a few years ago, but put it on hold because I didn't find the right musicians back then. After playing together for some time and further working out songs, we recorded the album we just released, and now we plan to go out, play live and deliver our music to the audience!

2.So far you have released one album, can you tell us a little bit more about the musical style that you went for on the recording?

Jan: We play fast and rather old school Black Metal, but you can also hear some other stylistic influences in some of our songs, like Thrash and Death Metal.

3.A lot of your lyrics cover Satanism and Anti Christianity themes, can you tell us a little bit more about your interest in the dark arts?

René: I have my personal experience with the church. But the lyrics are inspired by the book "From Here to Forever" written by E.G. White. She was an American author and co-founder of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. She had several visions about the end of the world and I took the "storys" and took a twist on them.

4.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Inverted Saint'?

Jan: We've got our Inverted Saint figure that is part of our logo and album cover. But the name Inverted Saint can be interpreted in many different ways. Conceptual, the Inverted Saint could for example be a saint that found the true faith, the Antichrist or some kind of Übermensch.

5.Can you tell us a little bit more about the artwork that is presented on the new album cover?

Jan: The cover artwork was painted by an artist from Indonesia, Ikhsan. We sent him a concept of the direction the artwork should go into before. The artwork shows a figure, representing the Inverted Saint in a cathedral reading from his Book of Apocalypse, surrounded by his worshipers, and satanic rites going on.

6.What are some of the best shows that the band has played so far and also how would you describe your stage performance?

Jan: We just started playing shows, so we have only played two times so far, but they were both fantastic. The first show was our album release concert near Stuttgart, and the other one at an open-air event in Leipzig. Our stage performance could be described as dark, but energetic.

7.Do you have any touring or show plans for the future?

Jan: We are planning some shows for autumn and winter in Germany at the moment that will soon be announced. There is no real tour planned right now, we first want to focus our concerts mainly on the southern German area, but if there are offers to play other places, we of course would also consider them.

8.The album was released on 'Future Fame records', can you tell us a little bit more about this label?

René: Future Fame Records is a label of a friend of mine. I also play in his band. It’s not a black metal or even metal label, but we have good conditions there. But for the next release we are totally open.

9.On a worldwide level how has the reaction been to your music by fans of black metal?

Jan: The reactions to our album have so far been quite positive, but I think it takes some time to really reach a bigger audience worldwide, since we just started out.

10.Where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?

Jan: I think we will mostly stay our course musically, but there might be some evolution and refinements in the band's sound. At the moment, I'm already writing songs for our next release.

11.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?

Jan: I think from the Black Metal side, definitely some of the older bands like Bathory, Dark Funeral, Dissection, Marduk, Nifelheim, Immortal, Darkthrone and 1349. Besides Black Metal, I'm also very much into Heavy, Thrash and Death Metal, which also influences our music to some degree.

Lukas: I also enjoy technical Death Metal such as Origin or Archspire. I take great inspiration for my bass play from those bands.

12.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?

Jan: Thanks for the interview and to all readers, we hope to see you soon at one of our concerts!

Inverted Saint/Book Of Apocalypse/Future Frame Records/2023 Full Length Review

Inverted  Saint  are  a  band  from  Germany  that  plays  an  old  school  form  of  satanic  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2023  album  "Book  Of  Apocalypse"  which  will  be  released  on  May  12th  by  Future  Frame  Records.

A  very  dark,  heavy  and  melodic  sound  starts  off  the  album  while  you  can  also  hear  all  of  the  musical  instruments  that  are  present  on  this  recording.  Most  of  the  music  is  also  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  90's  era  and  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  also  add  in  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  which  also  gives  the  recording  more  of  a  raw  feeling.

Vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  while  the  solos  and  leads  also  remain  very  true  to  an  old  school  style  as  well  as  having  their  chaotic  and  melodic  moments.  The  songs  also  add  in  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  the  whole  recording  also  sticking  to  a  heavier  musical  direction.

Inverted  Saint  plays  a  style  of  satanic  black  metal  that  is  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  90's  old  school  tradition.  The  production  sounds  very  raw  and  heavy  while  the  lyrics  cover  Satanism,  Luciferian,  Anti  Christianity  and  Apocalyptic  themes.

In  my  opinion  inverted  Saint  are  a  very  great  sounding  old  school  satanic  black  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Incarnation  Of  Truth"  "Between  Adam  And  Eve"  "Sign  of  Arrival"  and  "Become  A  God".  8  out  of  10.
