Barrowlands are a band from Portland, Oregon that has been featured before in this zine and plays a progressive form of cascadian black metal and this is a review of their 2017 album "Tyndir" which will be released on October 27th by Vendetta.
Melodic guitar leads start off the album along with all of the musical instruments having a very powerful sound to them while the vocals are mostly high pitched black metal screams and when the music speeds up a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats can be heard which also gives the songs more of a raw feeling.
Throughout the recording you can hear a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts while the riffs also bring in a great amount of melody along with acoustic guitars also being added into certain sections of the recording and they also give the songs more of a progressive feeling and most of the tracks are very long and epic in length and one track also adds in a small amount of clean playing, growls and stringed instruments can also be heard briefly.
Barrowlands creates another recording that remains true to the progressive black metal sound of their previous releases while also having their raw, epic and melodic moments, the production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover darkness and nature themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Barrowlands and if you are a fan of progressive, melodic and cascadian black metal, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Light Of A Dead Star" and "Empty Hands Grasping". 8 out of 10.
