Barrowlands are a band from Portland, Oregon that plays a progressive form of cascadian black metal and this is a review of their 2012 demo which was released by Den Of Dead Trees.
Drums range from slow, mid paced to fast drumming with some blast beats being utilized at times, while the cello's bring a very dark and atmospheric sound to the recording, as for the bass playing it has a very dark tone with riffs that follow the riffing that are coming out of the guitars.
Rhythm guitars range from slow, mid paced to fast Cascadian style black metal riffs that utilize some raw and primitive sounding elements as well as a great amount of melody and progressive parts in the riffing to create a sound of their own as well as some doom metal influences and a small amount of soft and clean playing, while the lead guitars are very melodic and progressive sounding black metal guitar solos and leads.
Vocals are all high pitched black metal screams, while the lyrics cover darkness and nature themes, as for the production it has a very dark, raw and primitive sound with the songs being long and epic in length.
In my opinion Barrowlands are a very great sounding progressive cascadian black metal and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this demo. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Mother Of Storms" and "In The Shadow Of The Mountain". RECOMMENDED BUY.
