Desiderium are a 2 man band from North Carolina that plays a very atmospheric and melodic form of black metal and this is a review of their self released 2011 ep "An Image Of Solitude".
Drum programming ranges from slow, mid paced to fast beats, while the synths bring a very dark and atmospheric sound to the music along with a brief use of flutes, as for the bass playing it has a very dark tone with riffs that follow the riffing that are coming out of the guitars.
Rhythm guitars range from slow, mid paced to fast atmospheric black metal riffs that combine primitive elements, melody and post rock together to create a sound of their own, while the lead guitars are very melodic sounding post black metal guitar solos and leads, as for the acoustic guitars which are only used briefly use finger picking and full chords to bring psychedelic, progressive and post rock elements to the ep..
Vocals are mostly grim sounding black metal screams along with a brief use of clean singing which brings a pagan metal feeling to the ep, while the lyrics cover darkness, depressing and nature themes, as for the production it has a very dark, raw and primitive sound to it with some of the songs being very long and epic in length.
In my opinion Desiderium are a very great sounding melodic and atmospheric, post black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this recording. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Forest Of Forgotten Memories" and "Waldeinsamkiet". RECOMMENDED BUY.
