Heron/Ritual/2013 EP Review

This  is  another  review  of  a  recording  from  Heron  which  continues  their  hybrid  of  black,  progressive  and  doom  metal  with  the  ep  being  self  released  in  2013  and  called  "Ritual".

Drums  range  from  slow,  mid  paced  to  fast  drumming  with  some  blast  beats  being  thrown  into  the  music  at  times,  while  the  bass  playing  has  a  very  dark  tone  with  riffs  that  follow  the  riffing  that  are  coming  out  of  the  guitars,  as  for  the  organ  it  is  only  used  briefly  on  one  song  and  they  bring  a  psychedelic  feeling  to  the  recording.

Rhythm  guitars  range  from  slow,  mid  paced  to  fast  black  metal  riffs  that  use  some  raw  and  primitive  sounding  elements  as  well  as  some  doom  metal  influences,  melody  and  clean  playing  which  brings  in  the  progressive  elements,  while  the  lead  guitars  are  very  melodic  sounding  black  metal  guitar  leads.

Vocals a re  mostly  grim  sounding  black  metal  screams  with  some  deeper  vocals  and  spoken  word  parts,  while  the  lyrics  cover  darkness  and  nature  themes,  as  for  the  production  it  has  a  very  dark,  raw  and  primitive  sound  with  one  of  the  songs  being  long  and  epic  in  length.

In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Heron  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  black metal  mixed  with  some  doom  and  progressive  elements,  you  should  check  out  this  ep.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "A  Cold  Wind  Blows  &  Oculus".  RECOMMENDED  BUY.
