My Dark Secret Transcendence Interview

 

1.For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about the solo project?

Hails, I’m Narusha of “My Dark Secret Transcendence” Post Black Metal/ Blackgaze one man band from Bangkok, Thailand. I’m Vocalist/Bassist  of a death metal band “Deathguy” since 1998 and some of my side projects before. 

 I started “My Dark Secret Transcendence”  in 2022 and released “Emptiness is not the end : Demo 2023” in January 2023 and debut full length “TEARNOUMENON” in December 2023. 

2.So far you have released a demo and a full length, musically how they they both differ from each other?

They’re 3 songs same in both releases. I changed to use B.C Rich guitar and bass in full length to get different sound. Personally I thought that Demo is mostly Post Black Metal. But, in full length, there are more materials in Shoegaze, Gothic and other kinds of sensation and formation.

3.You also have a background playing in death and gothic metal bands, how would you compare what you are doing with this project to the other musical genres, you have worked with in the past?

For Deathguy, my Death Metal band. We have a lot of materials in different style but mostly in fast and aggressive feeling of Death and Black Metal in mixture.  For Gothic Metal Band “Breathless” (inactive)  is my one man band at the first place in 2001. I am main song writer, vocalist and guitar. This band got symphonic parts and mostly in Gothic Doom Metal with beautiful vocals. All members disband just only me now. There are some more one man bands of mine like “She’s Gore” (inactive) in Brutal Death Metal, ever release demo in 2001 and a 4 ways splits with other Thai Brutal death metal bands.  “Lerman” (inactive) is Melodic Death/ Black Metal. This band is full of melody and guitar harmonies. I started Lerman in 2003, ever release a demo and only one full length. And last one is “Reflection of Impurities” (active) Brutal Death Metal with Slamming and Technical materials.  When I did music I try to make it easy as how do I feel when I listen to them. 

4.What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects you have explored so far with the music?

There are sorrow, melancholic, state of mind, time and space, meditation and concentration. All are not in body but mind and soul  for “My Dark Secret Transcendence”

5.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'My Dark Secret Transcendence'?

I feel that this band is my personal sense and taste of thoughts, feeling, perception, intention. I feel like it come from somewhere connected to my consciousness like sometime when a song come from nowhere into your mind. Words “My Dark Secret….” Rise in my mind suddenly when I want to name this band. Then I use last word as “Transcendence” to say that it’s beyond physical matter but more in untouchable state.

6.Can you tell us a little bit more about the artwork that is presented on the new album cover?

There is a woman sleep in roots or tentacles of ancient creature or plants. I’d like cover to be sign of something that trap us to stuck in it deeply for very long time and unable to woke up. 

7.With this project you record everything by yourself, v=but have experience working with musicians in other bands, do you prefer to work solo?

I ever wrote songs by working out in rehearsal room and other different method.  My favourite way is solo. I love it when I wrote songs in my head without any music instrument.   But for drums composition I prefer to work with real drummers if possible. And I also open up and want to try something new.

8.The new album was released on 'Dark Oracle Records', can you tell us a little bit more about this label?

This underground label is run by my longtime well known metal brothers. It first started as metal music listeners group before 1998. And then they started to make it as small underground label. I first join the group and label then start my first one man band “Thanit” (inactive) and release demo “Thanit - Trisana Demo 1998” after that I formed  ‘Deathguy’ then began to join in 1998 too. There are some great bands in label as “Shambles” (Brutal Death Metal but now is Funeral Doom Metal) , “Gortia” - Black Metal, “Annular Eclipse” - Black Metal that “Avaejee” from “Surrender of Divinity” ever been guitarist.  Now all my one man bands stay in this label. 

9.On a worldwide level how has the reaction been to your music by fans of dsbm, post black metal and blackgaze?

I didn’t spread news much but only by FB, Youtube, Streaming services and Bandcamp. But there are some people from Japan, Australia, Poland, UK, USA and Canada bought “TEARNOUMENON” CDs. There are some good reviews, Thank you and appreciate for everybody who supports. 

10.What is going on with your other bands or musical projects these days?

“Deathguy” ever separate in 2006 and I stopped all bands that year except “Breathless” stopped in  2012.  Then I  stopped making music from 2012. I was back to make music in 2016 with “Deathguy” and now only “My Dark Secret Transcendence” and “Reflection of Impurities” are active. Maybe I’ll try to continue other bands later.

11.Where do you see yourself heading into as a musician during the future?

I wish I can do more music as much as I can and make listeners enjoy it more and more. It’ll be great if “My Dark Secret Transcendence” can sign with great label and  tour in other countries. That’ll be great experience.

12.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?

I like to listen to Alcest, Agalloch, Mork ,My Dying Bride, Saturnus, Anathema, Katatonia, Draconian  and many others.  But my most favorite band and influence is Alcest. I have almost all of their album in vinyl LPs except “BBC live session”.  And many times I love to listen to silence.

My Dark Secret Transcendence/Tearnoumenon/Dark oracle Records/2024 Full Length Review

 

  My  Dark  Secret  Transcendence  are  a  solo  project  from  Thailand  that  plays  a  depressive  mixture  of  post  black  metal  and  blackgaze  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2024  album  "Teamoumenon"  which  was  released  by  Dark  Oracle  Records.

  

  Clean  playing  and  synths  start  off  the  album  before  going  into  more  of  a  fast,  raw  and  melodic  direction  which  also  adds  in  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats.  Clear  singing  is  also  utilized  quite  a  bit  throughout  the  recording  along  with  the  songs  also  mixing  in  elements  of  post  rock  and  shoegaze.

  All  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  while  most  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length.  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  and  the  songs  also  add  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.

  All  of  the  drum  beats  are  programmed  along  with  the harsher  vocals  being  mostly  high  pitched  depressive  black  metal  screams  when  they  are  introduced  into  the  music  as  well  as  a  couple  of  tracks  also  adding  in  a  small  amount  of  female  vocals,  spoken  word  parts  can  also  be  heard  on  a  few  songs  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  depression  and  melancholy  themes.  

  In  my  opinion  my  Dark  Secret  Transcendence  is  a  very  great  sounding  depressive  mixture  of  post  black  metal  and  blackgaze  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  solo  project.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "I  Don't  Want  To  Come  Back  Anymore"  "Emptiness  IS  not  The  End"  and  "Breathless".  8  out  of  10.
