Mork/Monolitt/Peaceville Records/2026 Full length Review

Norway's  Mork  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for  a  more  modern  style  of  Norwgian black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2026  album  "Monolitt"  which  will  be  released  on  June  19th  by  Peaceville  Records.

A  very  heavy  and  aggressive  sound  starts  off  the  album  while  the  faster  sections  of  the  recording  also  add  in  a  lot  of  blast  beats.  Vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  along  with  the  riffs  also  adding  in  a  decent  amount  of  blast  beats  and  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.

Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  while  the  tremolo  picking  in  the  fast  riffing  gives  the  music  more  of  a  raw  feeling.  At  times  the  music  also  gets  very  dissonant  sounding  along  with  some  tracks  also  adding  in  a  small  amount  of  growls.

Clear  singing  can  also  be  heard  on  a  few  songs  as  well  as  the  synths  also  adding  in  an  atmospheric  touch  when  they  are  introduced  on  a  couple  of  tracks  and  one  song  also  adds  in  a  brief  us4e  of  clean  playing.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  Norwegian  and  cover  misanthropy  and  darkness  themes.

In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Mork  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  modern  Norwegian  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Under  Vekten  Av  Versen"  "Torden"  "Ferdamann"  and  "Utryddelse".  8  out  of  10.

Mork/Syv/Peaceville Records/2024 Full Length Review

Norway's  Mork  has  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for  an  atmospheric  and  progressive  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2024  album  "Syv"  which  will  be  released  on  September  20th  by  Peaceville  Records.

Atmospheric  sounding  synths  start  off  the  album  before  going  into  a  heavier  direction  while  the  vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams.  A  couple  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length  along  with  the  riffs  also  adding  in  a  great  amount  of  melody  and  clean  playing  is  also  added  a  couple  of  songs.

Folk  instruments  can  also  be  heard  briefly  while  clear  vocals  are  also  added  on  a  couple  of  songs.  All  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  along  with  the  music  also  going  into  more  of  a  progressive  direction  at  times,  when the  recording  finally  speeds  up  a  decent  amount  of  blast  beats  and  tremolo  picking  can  also  be  heard  which  also  gives  the  album  more  of  a  raw  feeling  and  one  song  is  also  an  instrumental  as  well  as  the  closing  track  also  adding  in  some  acoustic  guitars.

On  this  recording  Mork  moves  away  from  the  old  school  style  of  black  metal  of  previous  releases  and  goes  for  more  of  a  modern,  atmospheric  and  progressive  style  of  black  metal  with  this  release.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  Norwegian  and  cover  the  depths  and  contrasts  of  human  experience.

In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Mork  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  atmospheric  and  progressive  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "I  Takens  Virvel"  "Utbrent"  "ondt  Blod"  and  "Til  Syvende  Og  Sist".  8  out  of  10.

Mork/Katedralen/Peaceville Records/2021 CD Review

Mork  are  a  band  from  Norway  that  has  been  featured  before  in  this  zine  and  plays  an  atmospheric,  old  school  and  raw  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2021  album  "Katedralen"  which  will  be  released  in  March  by  Peaceville  Records.

Horror  movie  style  keyboards  start  off  the  album  before  going  into  a  heavier  musical  direction  while  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  also  add  in  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast beats  which  also  gives  the  music  more  of  a  raw  feeling  and  the  music  is  also  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  90's  era.

Vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  while  the  mid  tempo  sections  of  the  songs  also  add  in  a  touch  of  black'n'roll.  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  all  of  the musical  instruments  also  having  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.

Melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  along  with  the  solos  and  leads  also  being  done  in  a  dark  yet  melodic  style  as  well  as  one  of  the  tracks  also  introducing  melodic  vocals  onto  the  recording,  some  of  the  songs  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  Norwegian  and  cover  sadness,  grief,  death  and  darkness  themes.

In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Mork  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  atmospheric,  old  school  and  raw  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Dodsmarjsen"  "Evig  intens  Smerte"  "Fodt  Til  A  Herske"  and  "De  Fortapte  Sjelers  Katedral".  8  out  of  10.

Mork Interview

1.Can you give us an update on what has been going on with the band since the recording of the new album?

A: I have been doing interviews and other pre-release related stuff. I’ve been booking shows and we have been rehearsing the new stuff as a band. I am ecstatic to have been booked for what will be Mork’s first US shows, in August.

2.You have a new album coming out in April, musically how does it differ from the stuff you have released in the past?

A: Musically I guess it’s similar, in that it’s my handy-work. The overall feel and sound on this one is a bit colder and darker, though. I’ve had a pretty shitty couple of years, privately, that went on while creating this album. This has effected the outcome of the album.

3.What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band explores with the new album and also how would you describe your progress as songwriters over the years?

A: Lyrically the new album has both strength and weakness, in a psychological fashion. There’s sadness and hopelessness sprung out of my depressed state and tragic past two years. But, there are strength and will-power in this as well. As a songwriter I did hold back alot whilst making the first two albums, in regard to keeping the feel and atmosphere old school and primitive. By album four I really have found my place within my Mork creativity. I let myself loose more and let what happens, happen.

4.The band is from Norway a country that has had some legendary acts over the years, how would you say your musical style differs from the other bands of your homeland?

A: The difference is that this is me and my way of creating music. I am inspired by my past works, more than other bands in the same genre. However the building blocks of Black Metal is underneath it all.

5.Can you tell us a little bit more about the artwork that is presented on the new album cover?

A: I actually got to meet the artist, David Thierree, randomly. I was not aware of his past works or collaborations. But, when I got to see his skills and drawings, I sort of decided right away to work with him.

The album-title and concept is something that I have had in the back of my head for about ten years. So, it all came together rather nicely. I expressed my concept to David and he delivered a spot on depiction of my  vision. The artwork shows a vast black gorge representing all thats dark and and overwhelming in life, and the naked weakling represents the hopelessness it provokes.

6.On the albums you record everything by yourself but use musicians for live performances, would you ever be open to work with a full line up in the studio?

A: Is Mork is a big part of me, I will keep it as is.

7.What are some of the best shows that the band has played over the years and also how would you describe your stage performance?

A: The highlights keep getting more frequent for us as a live unit. That’s the good thing about being able to play and experience everything together over time. It’s not only the shows that makes the experience, it’s the traveling that comes along with it. Like our trip to Izmir in Turkey, where we got to experience the city and culture as well as the great crowd during our show. We are lucky to have been able to endure several good trips. We are really looking forward to our first journey over to the United States, where we are playing Las Vegas, San Diego and Los Angeles later this year. Other highlights that come to mind is; Our show in Transylvania, our show at Tons Of Rock in Halden, Midgardsblot and Inferno Festival. Most shows are good for us.

8.Do you have any touring or show plans once the new album is released?

A: As mentioned we will do a short run in the US. We will play the Inferno during album-release. We are to appear at the Hellbotn Festival for the second time. And we have club shows, here and there. Mork has never been a band “on tour”, we mostly play one-offs. So, contact our booking and perhaps we’ll appear near you.

9.The last few albums have been released on Peaceville Records, are you happy with the support that they have given you so far?

A: As of today all Mork albums are on Peaceville. Mork has been a rapid upwards experience since the first album back in 2013 and Peaceville is yet another milestone on the way.

10.On a worldwide level how has the reaction been to your music by fans of black metal?

A: Feedback has been astonishing. I have to admit that I did not see this kind of “success” coming along, and this quick. Considering the band and music being quite “young”, being from 2004 and onwards, the reaction has been overwhelming. I am of course honored, even if I primarily make music to please non-other then myself first.

11.Where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?

A: Nothing is written in stone. But I am pretty sure the the four albums up to now will be the guideline for the future. I don’t see myself taking Mork too far away from what is.

12.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your newer music and also what are you listening to nowadays?

A: I am a kind of guy who does not dig around for new music. I stick to my old favs. Classic rock and metal from the 60’s up til mid 90’s. The influence is music I do enjoy, there’s no single band or track that makes me write a song. It’s more the fact that the creativity in itself is so rewarding that my songwriting is free flowing out of creative freedom. Not only Black Metal inspires, music in general, does.

13.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?

A: I tip my hat and thank you for the attention. This last two years has been a living hellhole of tragedy for me, so the privilege of being able to process those feelings through this new album is a important fundament for my well being onwards. Hails to the supporters of Mork out there. Hope this album can captivate you as it did to me. Keep the black flame burning.

Mork/Det Svarte Juv/Peaceville Records/2019 CD Review

Mork  are  a  band  from  Norway  that  plays  a  very  raw  and  atmospheric  form  of  Norwegian  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2019  album  "Det  Svarte  Juv"  which  will  be  released in  April  by  Peaceville  Records.

Atmospheric  sounding  synths  start  off  the  album  before  going  into  a  very  fast  and  raw  musical  direction  which  also  uses  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  while  also  mixing  the  atmospheric  elements  into  the  heavier  sections  of  the  music  and  the  vocals  are  mostly  grim  black  metal  screams.

The  music  also  adds  in  a  great  mixture  of  both  old  school  and  modern  influences  while the  songs  also  add  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.  All  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  along  with  the  riffs  also  utilizing  a  good  amount  of  melody.

Some  songs  also  add  in  a  small  amount  of  clean  singing  while  some  tracks  also  show  influences  of  doom  metal  and  black'n'roll  and  as  the  album  progresses  a  brief  use  of  melodic  guitar  leads  can  also  be  heard.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  Norwegian  and  cover  sadness,  hate,  anger,  pain,  strength  and  self  belief  themes.

In  my  opinion  Mork  are  a  very  great  sounding  Norwegian  black  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Morkeleggelse"  "I  Flammens  Favn"  "Siste  Reis"  and  "Det  Svarte  Juv".  8  out  of  10.
