Death Fortress are a band from New Jersey that has been featured before in this zine with a musical style I would describe as being a raw and satanic form of black metal and this is a review of their 2013 ep "Mirror Into Eternity" which was released by Fallen Empire Records.
"Asceticism Anorexia" which is also the first song on the ep opens up with slow black metal guitar riffs and a minute later drums and blast beats kick in and the music goes into a faster direction which also leads up to some deep black metal vocals and halfway through the song it slows again and you can also hear bass guitars in the background before returning to a faster direction as well as mixing in mid paced sections.
"Within The Fortress" begins with some fast, raw and primitive black metal guitar riffs along with blast beats from the drums and then the vocals kick in and after awhile the music goes into a slower and mid paced direction along with some powerful sounding bass guitars and gets fast again after a few seconds and then alternating between mid paced and fast parts.
"Master-Deceiver" opens up with mid paced black metal guitar riffs before speeding up and adding in blast beats and you can also hear bass guitars in the background and then the music alternates between fast and mid paced parts as well as adding in vocals.
"Desolate Temple" starts up with some mid paced old school black metal guitar riffs and drums along with powerful bass guitars which then leads to the vocals kicking in and then going into a faster direction along with some blast beats before alternating between mid paced and fast parts.
"Death Continuum" kicks in with a guitar direction before going into a more fast, raw and primitive direction along with blast beats from the drums and bass guitars and a few seconds later vocals start to kick in and as the song moves on the music slows down for a few seconds in certain sections and then returns back to being fast as well as adding in mid paced sections.
"Mirror Into Eternity" which is also the last song on the ep begins with mid paced black metal guitar and bass riffs along with some drums and halfway through the song vocals are finally added in which also leads to the music adding in faster parts along with some blast beats while still utilizing mid paced sections.
Song lyrics cover Power, Domination, Satanism and Occultism, while the production has a very dark, raw and primitive sound to it while you can still hear all of the musical instruments on the recording.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Death Fortress and if you are a fan of traditional satanic black metal, you should check out this ep. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Asceticism Anorexia" and "Death Continuum". RECOMMENDED BUY.
