Heresiarch/Edifice/Iron Bonehead Productions/2024 Full Length Review

 

  New  Zealand's  Heresiarch  has  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for  a  bestial  mixture  of  war,  black  and  death  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2024  album  "Edifice"  which  will  be  released  in  April  by  Iron  Bonehead  Productions.

  Dark  sounding  synths  start  off  the  album  before  going  into  a  very  fat,  raw  and  brutal  war  metal  direction  which  also  utilizes  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast b eats.  Vocals  are  a  mixture  of  bestial  growls  and  black  metal  screams  while  dark  sounding  melodies  can  also  be  heard  in  some  of  the  guitar  riffing.

  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  while  the  solos  and  leads  are  also  done  in  a  very  chaotic  style.  At  times  the  music  also  captures  the  brutality  of  grindcore,  synths  also  return  in  certain  sections  of  the  recording  along  with  some  of  the  tracks  also  being  very  long  and  epic  in  length.

  On  this  recording  Heresiarch  expands  on  their  bestial  mixture  of  war,  black  and  death  metal  by  focusing  more  on  the  death  metal  side  of  their  musical  style.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  death  and  war  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Heresiarch  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  war  and  bestial  black/death  emtal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Forged  Doctrine"  "Gloryless  Execution"  "A  World  Only  Lit  By  Fire"  and  "Militate  Pyrrhic  Collapse".  8  out  of  10.

Heresiarch/Antediluvian/Defleshing The Serpent Infinity/Iron Bonehead Productions/2020 Split EP Review

  This  is  a  review  of  a  split  ep  between  New  Zealand's  Heresiarch  and  Canada's  Antediluvian  called  "Defleshing  The  Serpent  Infinity"  which  will  be  released  in  July  by  Iron  Bonehead  Productions  and  we  will  start  off  the  review  with  Heresiarch  who  return  with  their  mixture  of  war,  black  and  death  metal.

  Their  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  a  very  fast,  raw  and  brutal  war  metal  direction which  also  uses  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats.  Vocals  bring  in  a  mixture  of  bestial  growls  and  black  metal  screams  along  with  the  guitar  solos  and  leads  also  being  done  in  a  very  chaotic  style.

  The  songs  also  bring  in  some  of  the  90's  Australian  style  but  with  a  more  modern  day  brutality.  Throughout  their  side  of  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  the  music  also  adding  in  a  small  amount  of  melody,  synths  can  also  be  heard  on  the  closing  track.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  death and  war  themes.

  in  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Heresiarch  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  war,  black  and  death  metal,  you  should  check  out  their  side  of  the  split.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Excarnation".

  Next  up  is  Antediluvian  a  band  that  plays  dissonant  mixture  of  war,  black  and  death  metal.

  Their  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  a  very  fast,  raw  and  brutal  war  metal  sound  which  also  uses  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats.  Melodies  can  also  be  heard  in  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  while  the  vocals  also  bring  in  a  mixture  of  bestial  growls  and  black  metal  screams.

  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  chaotic  style  while  the  riffing  also  adds  in  some  dissonant  and  avant  garde  structures  which  makes  the  old  school  war  metal  style  sound  more  modern,  ritualistic  spoken  word  parts  can  also  be  heard  briefly  along  with  the  songs  also  adding  in  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  and  synths  can  also  be  heard  on  the  closing  track.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  Chaos,  Destruction,  Occultism,  Prehistory  and  Metaphysics.

  In  my  opinion  Antediluvian  are  a  very  great  sounding  avant  garde  and  dissonant  mixture  of  war,  black  and  death  metal  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Slipstream  of  Levi".

  In  conclusion  I  feel  this  is  a  very  great  sounding  split  and  I  would  recommend  it  to all  fans  of  war  and  black/death  metal.  8  out  of  10.

Serpents Athirst/Genocide Shrines/Trepanation/Heresiarch/Scorn Coalescence/Cyclopean Eye Productions/2019 4 Way Split EP Review

  This  is  a  review  of  a  4  way  split  ep  between  Sri  Lanka's  Serpents  Athirst,  Genocide  Shrines  and  New  Zealand's  Trepanation  and  Heresiarch  called  "Scorn  Coalescence"  which  will  be  released  in  July  by  Cyclopean  Eye  Productions  and  we  will  start  off  the  review  with  Serpents  Athirst  a  band  that  plays  a  violent  and  satanic  form  of  black  metal.

  Their  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  a  very  heavy  sound  along  with  a  small  amount  of  dark  sounding  melodies  that  also  add  in  a  touch  of  death  metal.  All  of  the  musical  instruments  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  while  the  vocals  are  mostly  grim  sounding  black  metal  screams  and  when  the  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats  and  tremolo  picking  can  be  heard  which  also  gives  the  song  more  of  a  raw  feeling.  The  production  sounds  very  raw  and  heavy  while  the  lyrics  cover  Theistic  Satanism  and  Violence.

  In  my  opinion  Serpents  Athirst  are  a  very  great  sounding  violent  and  satanic  black  metal  band  with  a  touch  of  death  metal  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  their  song.

  Next  up  is  Genocide  Shrines  a  band  that  plays  a  mixture  of   black  and  death  metal.

  Their  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  a  very  fast  and  brutal sound  which  also  uses  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats.  Vocals  bring  in mostly  death  emtal along  with  all  of  the  musical  instruments  having  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.   The  song  is  very  long  and  epic  in  length  and  also  adds  in  some  mid  tempo  sections,  the  production  sounds  very  dark  and  heavy  while  the  lyrics  cover  Tantra/Spiritual  Warfare, Ravana,  Death  and  Warfare  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Genocide  Shrines  are  a  very  great  sounding  blackened  death  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  their  song.

  Next  up  is  Trepanation  a  band  that  plays  a  mixture  of  war  metal  and  grindcore.

  Their  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  a  very  slow  sound  which  also  uses  a  decent  amount  of  dark  sounding  melodies.  Vocals are  mostly  bestial  growls  along  with  some  black  emtal  screams   and  when  the  music  speeds  up  it  mixes  the  rawest  and  most  brutal  elements  of  war  metal  and  grindcore  together,  the  production  sounds  very  raw  and  old  school  while  the  lyrics  cover   apocalypse,  darkness  and  death  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Trepanation  are  a  very  great  sounding  mixture  of  war  metal  and  grindcore  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  band.

  Closing  the  split  is  Heresiarch  who  return  with  their  mixture  of  war,  black  and  death  metal.

  Their  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  a  very  dark  and  heavy  sound  along  with  some  bestial  death  metal  growls  a  few  seconds  later.  All  of  the  musical  instruments  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  when  the  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  can  be  heard  which  also  gives  the  song  more  of  a  raw  feeling  and  when  guitar  leads  are  utilized  they  are  done  in  a  very  chaotic  style, black  metal  screams  can  also be  heard  at  times.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  heavy  while  the  lyrics  cover  death  and  war  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  track  from  Heresiarch  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  band,  you  should  enjoy  their  side  of  the  split. 

  in  conclusion  I  think  this  is  a  very  great  sounding  split  and  I  would  recommend  it  to  all  fans  of  war,  black  and  death  metal.

Heresiarch/Incursions/Krucyator Productions/2019 Compilation Album Review

  Heresiarch  are  a  band  from  New  Zealand  that  has  had  music  reviewed  before  in  this  zine  and  plays  a  bestial  mixture  of  war,  black  and  death  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2019  compilation  album  "Incursions"  which  was  released  by  Krucyator  Productions.

  A  very  powerful  bass  guitar  sound  starts  off  the  compilation  before  going  into  a  very  fast  and  raw  war  metal  direction  which  also  uses  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats.  Vocals  are  a  mixture  of  bestial  growls  and  black  metal  screams  and  the  music  also  adds in  a  great  amount  of  Australian  and  Canadian  war  metal  influences.

  Throughout  the  compilation  you  can  also  hear  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.  At  times  the  riffs  also  utilize  a  small  amount  of  dark  sounding  melodies  while  they  also  bring  in  a  cover  of  Bathory's  "Equimanthorn".  The  intro  on  the  second  demo  starts  out  with  some  war  samples  and  air  raid  sirens  before  going  into  a  heavier  direction.

  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  finally  added  into  the  music  they  are  done  in  a  very  raw  and  chaotic  style  while  one  track  also  brings  a  brief  use  of  synths  and  choirs  and  the  rest  of t he  compilation  sticks  to  a  very  raw,  aggressive  and  brutal  sound.  The  production  sounds  very  raw  and  heavy  while  the  lyrics  cover  death  and  war  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  a  very  great  sounding  collection  from  Heresiarch  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  war  and  bestial  black/death  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  compilation.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Obsecrating  the  Global  Holocaust"  "Carnivore"  "Conflagration"  and  "Abrecan".  8  out  of  10.

  Heresiarch  are  a  band  from  New  Zealand  that  has  been  featured  before  in  this  zine  and  plays  a  bestial  mixture  of  black,  war,  and  death  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2017  album  "Death  Ordinance"  which  will  be  released  in  July  by  Dark  Descent  Records.

  Atmospheric  soundscapes  start  off  the  album  before  going  into  a  heavier  direction  which  also  introduces  bestial  death  metal  growls  onto  the  recording  and  when  the  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  can  be  heard  which  also  gives  the  songs  a  more  raw  war  metal feeling.


  Black  metal  screams  are  also  added  into  some  parts  of the  songs  and  you  can  also  hear  some  Australian  and  Boss  Bay  influences  in  the  bands  musical style  while the  solos  and  leads  also  add  in  more  of  a  chaotic  style  and  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  a  great  amount  of  brutality  and  some  of  the  riffs  also  bring  in  a  small  amount  of  melody  and  a  couple  of  the  tracks  are  very  long  and  epic  in  length.

 
  Heresiarch  creates  another  recording  that  remains  true  to  the  bestial  mixture  of  black,  war  and  death  metal  of  previous  releases,  the  production  sounds  very  powerful  while  the  lyrics  cover  a  future  ravaged  by  30  years  of  war.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  album  from  Heresiarch  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  bestial  black/death  and  war  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  recording.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Consecrating  Fire"  "Ruination"    "lupine  Epoch"  and  "Desert  Of  Ash".  8  out  of  10.

Heresiarch/Hammer Of Intransigence/Dark Descent Records/2011 CD Review

  Heresiarch are a band from New Zealand that plays a very bestial form of black/death/war metal and this is a review of their 2011 album "Hammer Of Instransigence" which was released by Dark Descent Records.

Drums range from slow, mid paced to fast drumming with a great amount of blast beats being thrown in, while the bass playing has a very dark tone with riffs that follow the riffing that is coming out of the guitars.

Rhythm guitars range from slow, mid paced to fast riffs that combine the most brutal elements of death metal, bestial black metal and war metal, while the lead guitars when they are utilized are very raw and primitive sounding war metal guitar solos and leads.


Vocals are a mixture of deep death metal growls and high pitched black metal screams, while the lyrics cover war and hateful themes, as for the production it brings a very raw, primitive, powerful and heavy sound to the music.

In my opinion Heresiarch are a very good raw and primitive sounding bestial black/war/death metal and if you are a fan of this style, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Carnivore" and "Conflagration". RECOMMENDED BUY.
