Robes Of Snow/Fall's Resplendence/Fiadh Productions/2023 Full Length Review

 

  Pennsylvania's  solo  project  Robes  Of  Snow  has  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for  a  folk  music  inspired  form  of  atmospheric  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  2023  album  "Fall's  Resplendence"  which  will  be  released  on  October  27,  2023  by  Fiadh  Productions.

  Acoustic  guitars  start  off  the  album  which  also  mixes  in  with  the  heavier  sections  of  the  songs  at  times  and  also  brings  in  elements  of  folk  music  while  Appalachian  style  instruments  can  also  be  heard  briefly.  When  the  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  are  also  utilized  which  also  gives  the  album  more  of  a  raw  feeling. 

  

  Vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  scrams  while  the  synths  also  give  the  music  more  of  a  raw  feeling  when  they  are  added  into  the  music.  A  great  portion  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length  along  with  the  songs  also  adding  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.

  Melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  along  with  the  solos  and  leads  also  being  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  as  well  as  one  song  also  bringing  in  a  brief  use  of  spoken  word  parts  as  well  as  a  couple  of  the  tracks  also  being  instrumentals.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  the  different  aspects  of  the  autumn  season.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding album  from  Robes  Of  Snow  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  folk  inspired  atmospheric  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  recording.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Every  Falling  Leaf"  "Queen  Of  Winter"  and  "The  Longest  Night".  8 out  of  10.

Robes Of Snow/The Wooden Wheel: The Crones of Autumn/Fiadh Productions/2023 Album Re-Issue Review

 

  Robes  Of  Snow  are  a  solo  project  from  Pennsylvania  that  has  had  music  reviewed  before  in  this  zine  and  on  this  recording  went  for  an  acoustic  dark  folk  direction  with  touches  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  2022  album  "The  Wooden  Wheel:  The  Crones  Of  Autumn"  which  will  be  re-issued  on  September  23,  2023  by  Fiadh  Productions. 

  Clear  chants  and  clean  vocals  start  off  the  album  while  spoken  word  parts  are  also  added  on  some  of  the  tracks.  When  percussion  is  utilized  they  also  give  the  music  more  of  a  shamanistic  and  ritualistic  feeling  along  with  the  acoustic  guitars  also  taking  the  recording  into  more  of  a  folk  direction  when  they  are introduced.

  A  great  portion  of  the  tracks  are  also  instrumentals  while  some  of  the  songs  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length.  Spoken  word  parts  can  also  be  heard  briefly  along  with  some  classical  guitars  also  being  added  into  certain  sections  of  the  recording  and  when  other  folk  instruments  are  added  onto  the  album  they  also  give  the  music  a  lot  more  diversity,  saxophones  and  female  vocals  can  also  be  heard  briefly.

  On  this  recording  Robes  of  Snow  went  for  more  of  a  dark  folk  direction  which  also  captures  the  atmosphere  of  black  metal,  The  production  sounds  very  dark  while t he  song  themes  focus  on  nature  and  season  changes.

  In  my  opinion t his  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Robes  Of  Snow  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  dark  folk  music,  you  should  check  out  this  re-issue.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Woodland  Echoes"  "Leaves  Rich  In  Color"  "The  Face  Of  The  Trees"  and  "Wilderness  in  Autumnity".  8  out  of  10.

  Robes  Of  Snow  are  a  solo  project  from  Pennsylvania  that  usually  goes  for  more  of  an  ambient  style  of  post  black  metal  and  on  this  recording  goes  for  more  of  an  acoustic  folk  direction  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  2023  album  "The  Wooden  Wheel:  Spring  And  Sorrow"  which  will b e  released  in  February  by  Fiadh  Prodeuctions.

 Clean  chants  and  singing  start  off  the  album  along  with  some  percussion  a  few  seconds  later  while  grim  black  metal  screams  can  also  be  heard  briefly.  A  great  portion  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  short  in  length  as  well  as  one  song  also  introducing  acoustic  guitars  onto t he  recording  which  also  uses  a  good  mixture  of  full  chords  and  finger  picking.

  Folk  instruments  are  also  utilized  quite  a  bit  throughout  the  recording  while  a  great  majority  of  the  tracks  are  also  instrumentals.  Classical  guitars  are  also  added  on  some  of  the  songs  along  with  one  song  also  adding  in  some  tribal  and  shamanistic  touches  to  the  music  and  the  album  also  gets  more  diverse  but  keeping  it  in  a  slower  direction,  female  vocals  can  also  be  heard  on  one  track.

  On  this  recording  Robes  of  Snow  takes  his  music  into  more  of  an  acoustic  folk  direction  as  well  as  only  adding  elements  of  black  metal  on  one  song.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  while  the  song  themes  focus  on  nature.

  In  my  opinion  Robes  of  Snow  are  a  very  great  sounding  acoustic  folk  project  with  touches  of  black  metal  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Return  Of  The  Green"  "Rain  Atop  The  Mountain"  "Beltane" and  "The  Paths  I've  Tread".  8  out  of  10.
