Qwalen/Veri Virtaa Edelleen/Time To Kill Records/2026 Full Length Review

 

  Finland's  Qwalen  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for  a  raw  mixture  of  black  metal  and  punk  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2026  album  "Veri  Virtaa  Edelleen"  which  will  be  released  in  march  by  Time  To  Kill  Records.

  A  very  dark,  heavy  and  melodic  sound  starts  off  the  album  while  the  vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams.  When  the  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  can  be  heard  which  also  gives  the  recording  more  of  a  raw  feeling  and  the  solos  and  leads  also  add  in  a  lot  of  melody.

  Elements  of  punk  are  also  utilized  quite  a  bit  throughout  the  recording  while  the  music  also  adds  in  a  lot  of  the  old  aggression  with  a  more  modern  take  on  the  genre.  Angry  shouts  can  also  be  heard  at  along  with  one  song  also  adding  in  a  brief  use  of  synths,  clean  playing  and  acoustic  guitars  are  also  added  on  a  couple  of  the  tracks,   A  couple  of  songs  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length  along  with  the  album  also  adding  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.

  On  this  recording  Qwalen  continue  to  expand  on  the  raw  mixture  of  black  metal  and  punk  that  they  introduced  on  previous  releases.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  Finnish  and  cover  the  rottenness  of  human  realty  and  the  abolition  of  kings  and  gods.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Qwalen  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  raw  black  metal  and  punk,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Hunnutettu  maa"  "Kiviä  ja  luita"  and  "Kuolleet  jumalat".  8  out  of  10.

Qwalen/Syvä Hiljaisuus/Time To Kill Records/2023 Full Length Review

 

  Qwalen  are  a  band  from  Finland  that  has  had  music  reviewed  before  in  this  zine  and  on  this  recording  plays  a  raw  mixture  of  black  metal  and  punk  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2023  album  "Syvä  Hiljaisuus"  which  will  be  released  in  March  by  Time  To  Kill  Records.

  Dark  soundscapes  start  off  the  album  while  spoken  word  parts  can  also  be  heard  briefly  before  introducing  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  into  the  music  which  also  takes  the  recording  into  a  heavier  direction.  When  the  music  speeds  up a   great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast b eats  can b e  heard  which  also  gives  the  songs  more  of  a  raw  feeling.

  Elements  of  punk  can  also  be  heard  quite  a  bit  throughout  the  recording  while  the  music  is  also  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  90's  era.  Melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  along with  the  songs  only  adding  in  a  small  amount  of  fast  or  mid  tempo  sections  and  focusing  more  on  a  very  fast  and  brutal  musical  direction.

  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  finally  utilized  they  are  done  in  a  very  dark  yet  melodic  style  and  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them..  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  Finnish  and  cover  the  sheep-like  nature  of  humanity,  the  inevitability  of  destruction,  the  acceptance  of  being  faulted  and  surrendering  to  the  greater  force.  

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  album  from  Qwalen  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of r aw  black  metal  and  punk,  you  should  check  out  this  recording.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Kutsu  Minua  Saatanaksi"  " Tähdet  Tippuvat"  and  "Maailma  Täyttyy  Kuolleista".  8 out  of  10.

Qwalen/Unohdan sinut/Time To Kill Records/2021 Full Length Review

 

  Qwalen  are  a  band  from  Finland  that  plays  a  very  aggressive  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2021  album  "Unohdan  sinut"  which  will  be  released  in  February  by  Time  To  Kill  Records.

  A  very  fast  and  raw  sound  starts  off  the  album  along  with  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats.  Vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  while  dark  sounding  melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  and  the  music  also  brings  in  a  great  amount  of  90's  influences  but  keeps  it  modern  at  the  same  time.

  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  while  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.  One  of  the  tracks  also  adds  in  a  brief  use  of  growls  along  with  some  of  the  riffing  also  adding  in  some  touches  of  black'n'roll  and  the  whole  album  also  sticks  to  a  heavier  direction.

  Qwalen  plays  a  style  of  black  metal  that  is  very  fast,  raw  and  aggressive  sounding.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  Finnish  and  cover  self  portrayal  themes.     

  In  my  opinion  Qwalen  are  a  very  great  sounding  aggressive  black  metal b and  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  recording.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Pimea  tilla"  "Han  ei  tule  koskaan"  and  "Temppei".  8  out  of  10.
