Thanatomass/Hades/Living Temple/2023 Full Length Review

 

  Russia's  Thanatomass  has  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for  more  of  an  aggressive  mixture  of  war  and  occult  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2023  album  "Hades"  which  will  be  released  in  May  by  Living  Temple.

  A  very  dark  sounding  intro  starts  off  the  album  before  going  into  a  heavier  musical  direction  while  the  solos  and  leads  are  also  done  in  a  very  chaotic  style.  During  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  can  be  heard  which  also  gives  the  songs  more  of  a  raw  feeling.

  Elements  of  war  metal  can  also  be  heard  at  times  while  the  vocals  are a  mixture  of  bestial  growls  and  black  metal  screams.  Most  of  the  music  is  also  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  90's  era  as  well  as  some  80's  era  first  wave  touches  along  with  a  great  portion  of  the  tracks  also  being  very  long  and  epic  in  length  and  the  songs  also  add  in  a  good  combination  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts,  the  whole  recording  also  sticks  to  a  heavier direction.

  On  this  recording  Thanatomass  takes  the  80's  and  90's  era  of  black  metal  and  mixes  it  with  the  brutality  of  war  metal  to  create  a  very  heavy  and  aggressive  recording.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  Occultism,  Sorcery  and  Greek  Mythology  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Thanatomass  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  war  and  occult  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Living  Tombs  of  Tartarus"  and  "Sorcery  of  Hades".  8  out  of  10.

Thanatomass/Darkest Conjurations/Nomad Snakepit Productions/2022 EP Re-Issue Review

 

  This  is  a  review  of  another  recording  from  Russia's  Thanatomass  which  also  is  done  in  a  very  aggressive  occult  black  metal  style  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2019  ep  "Darkest  Conjurations"  which  will b e  re-issued  in  August,  2022  by  Nomad  Snakepit  Productions  and  consists  of  rehearsal  bonus  tracks.

  A  very  distorted  sound  starts  off  the  ep  before  going  into  a  heavier  direction  while  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  also  add  in  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking,  blast  beats  and  war  metal  elements  which  also  gives  the  music  more  of  a  raw  feeling  and  the  vocals  are  a  mixture  of  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  and  bestial  growls.

  Some  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length  while  the  solos  and  leads  are  also  done  in  a  very  dark,  melodic  and  chaotic  style.  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  the  music  also  being  heavily  rooted  in  the  mid  90's  to  early  2000's  era,  some  of  the  riffing  also  mixes  in  influences  from  the  first  wave  era  and  thrash  metal,  all  of  the  music  sticks  to  a  heavier  direction  and  the  rehearsal  tracks  also  bring  in  even  more  of  a  raw  style.

  On  this  recording  Thanatomass  continues  their  aggressive  style  of  occult  black  metal f rom  their  previous  release  as  well  as  getting  more  raw,  brutal  and expanding  on  the  war  metal  elements  and  also  keeping  the  thrash  influences.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  Occultism,  Rituals  and  Darkness  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Thanatomass  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  raw  and  aggressive  occult  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  ep.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Darkest  Conjurations"  and  "Eschatonic  Sacrifice".  8  out  of  10.

Thanatomass/MMXV-MMXVI/Nomad Snakepit Productions/2022 Demo Re-Issue Review

 

  Thanatomass  are  a  band  from  Russia  that  has  had  music  reviewed  before  in  this  zine  and  on  this  recording  plays  a  very  aggressive  form  of  occult black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2018  demo  "MMXV-MMXVI"  which  will b e  re-issued  in  August,  2022  by  Nomad  Snakepit  Productions  and  also  consists  of  a  bonus  live  track  that  was  not  on  the  original  version.

  A  very  fast,  raw  and  brutal  war  metal  sound  starts  off  the  demo  along  with  a  great  amount  of tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats.  Vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  while  the  riffs  also  show  some  influence  of  thrash  metal  and  dark  sounding  melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing.   

  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  while  some  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length.  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  chaotic  style  as  well  as  going  into  more  of  a  dark  yet  melodic  direction  on  later  songs,  a  lot  of  the  music  also  shows  some  influences  from  the  90's  to  early  2000's  era  and  all  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  also  have  a very  powerful  sound  to  them,  synths  can  also  be  heard  briefly.

  On  this  recording  Thanatomass  played  a  style  of  occult  black  metal  that  also showed  some  touches  of  war  and  thrash  metal  as  well  as  being  more  melodic  than  later  releases.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  Luciferian,  Occultism  adn Gnosis  themes.     

  In  my  opinion  this  is  a  very  great  sounding  recording  from  Thanatomass  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  aggressive  occult  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  demo.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "House  Of  The  Rising  Lucifer"  and  "Morning Of  the  Magicians".  8  out  of  10.

Thanatomass/Black Vitriol & Iron Fire/Living Temple Records/LVX MorgenStern/2021 Full Length Review

 

  Thanatomass  are  a  trio  from  Russia  that  plays  an  occult  mixture  of  war  and black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2021  album  "Black  Vitriol  &  Iron  Fire"  which  will  be  released  in  May  as  a  joint  effort  between  Living  Temple  Records  and  LVX  MorgenStern.

  A  very  fast  and  raw  sound  starts  off  the  album  along  with  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats.  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  done  in  a  very  chaotic  style  while  the  bestial  growls  also  add  in  touches  of  war  metal  and  most of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length.

  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  while  a  lot  of  the  music  is  also  heavily  rooted  in  the  90's  era.  Elements  of  thrash  metal  can  also  be  heard  in  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  along  with  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  having  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.

  Black  metal  screams  are  also  a  very  huge  part  of  the  recording  as  well  as  the  music  also  showing  some  80's  influences  at  times  and  as  the  album  progresses  a  synth  orientated  instrumental  can  also  be  heard  before  returning  back  to  a  heavier  direction.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  Occultism,  Alchemy,  Necromancy  and  Luciferian  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Thanatomass  are  a  very  great  sounding  occult  mixture  of  war  and  black  metal  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Deathmass  Extasis"  and  "Phallvs  Lvciferi".  8  out  of  10.
