Heimdalls Wacht/Mystagogie - Lieder voll Ewigkeit/Trollzorn/2023 Full Length Review

 

  Heimdalls  Wacht  are  a  band  from  Germany  that  has  had  music  reviewed  before  in  this  zine  and  on  this  recording  goes  for  a  neo-romantic  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2023  album  "Mystagogie  -  Lieder  voll  Ewigkeit"  which  will  be  released  in  December  by  Trollzorn.

  A  very  fast  and  raw  sound  starts  off  the  album  along  with  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats.  Vocals  are  mostly  angry  yet  high  pitched  sounding  black  metal  screams  along  with  the  riffs  also  adding  in  a  great  amount  of  melody  and  the  music  is  also  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  mid  90's  era.

  Clear  singing  can  also  be  heard  in  certain  sections  of  the  recording  while  the  songs  also  add  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.  All  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  along  with  a  few  tracks  also  adding  in  a  small  amount  of  spoken  word  parts.

 Clean  playing,  acoustic  guitars  and  nature  orientated  soundscapes  are  also  utilized  on  a  few  songs  along  with   a  couple  of  the  tracks  also  being  very  long  and  epic  in  length  as  well  as  the  solos  and  leads  also  being  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  when  they  are  introduced  onto  the  album  and  a  later  song  also  adds  in  some  angry  shouts  and  synths.  The  production  sounds  very  raw  and  old  school  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  a  mixture  of  English  and  German  and  cover  Paganism,  Occultism,  Cross-Culture  Spirituality,  Germanic  Romanticism,  Nature,  Philosophy  and  Nihilism  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Heimdalls  Wacht  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  German  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "On  The  Path  Of  The  Ancient"  "Shadowlord"  and  "Jeder  Abschied  atmet  den  Tod". 8/5 out  of  10.

Heimdalls Wacht/Der Untergang der alten Welt/Heidens Hart Records/2015 CD Re-Issue Review

  Heimdalls  Wacht  are  a  band  from  Germany  that  plays  a  very  raw  and  melodic  form  of  pagan/black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2006  album  "Der Untergang der alten Welt"  which  was  re-issued  in  2015  by  Heidens  Hart Records.

  Nature sounds start  off  the  album  bringing  in  a  very  cold  feeling  along  with  a  brief  spoken  word  part  before  going  into  a  very  fast,  raw  and  melodic  black  metal  direction  that  also  utilizes  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats  and  the  high  pitched  screams  have  a  very  crazy  style  going  on  with  them and  clean  playing  can  also  be  heard  in  the  music  at  times.

  Most  of  the  music  is  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  mid  90's  second  wave  style  and  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts and  some  of  the  tracks  are  very  long  and  epic  in  length  and  some  of the  clean  sections  also  bring  in  a  small  amount  of  classical  and  acoustic  guitars  which  also  have  a  medieval  and  epic  atmosphere  to them  at  times.

   When  melodic vocals  are  added  onto  the  recording  they  also  give  the  music  more  of  a  pagan  metal  feeling  and  the  solos  and  leads  the  band  uses  bring  a  great  amount  of  melody onto  the  recording  and  spoken  word  along  with  the  sounds  of  nature  also  make  a  return  in  certain  sections  of  the  recording  and  some  of  the  riffs  also  bring  in  a  small  amount  of  punk  and  thrash  influences.

  Heimdalls  Wacht  played  a  style  of  pagan/black  metal  on  this  recording  that  was  very  raw,  epic  and  melodic  as  well  a s having  more  of  a  guitar  driven  approach  to  this  genre,  the  production  sound s very  dark,  raw  and  heavy  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  German  and  cover  Paganism  and  Anti  Christian  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Heimdalls  Wacht  are  a  very  great  sounding  raw  and  melodic  pagan/black  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  re-issue.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Der  Tranen  des  Altens  Watchers"  "Weltenbrand"  and  "Ein  Denkmal  fur  die  alte  Welt".  8  out  of  10.
