Toadeater/Bexadde/F.D.AS Records/2022 Full Length Review

 

  Germany's  Toadeater  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for  an  atmospheric  mixture  of  post  black  metal,  crust  and  hardcore  punk  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2022  album  "Bexadde"  which  will  be  released  in  September  by  F.D.A  Records.

  A  very  fast  and  raw  sound  starts  off  the  album  along  with  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast b eats.  All  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  while  melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  and  the  vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams.

  All  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length  while  clear  vocals  can  also b e  heard  at  times.  Throughout  the recording  you  can  also  hear  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  the  solos  and  leads  also  being  done  in  a  very  melodic  post  metal  style  and  the  riffs  also  add  in  a  good  amount  of  melody.

  At  times  the  screams  also  show  an  influence  of  hardcore  along  with  some  songs  also  adding  in  a  small  amount  of  clean  playing  as  well  as  the  music  also  having  its  atmospheric  moments  and  some  of  the  riffing  also  adds  in  the  raw  energy  of  crust  punk.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  social  criticism,  alienation  and  existential  despair  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  album  from  Toadeater  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  atmospheric  post  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  recording.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Asche'  and "Molten  Gold".  8  out  of  10.

Toadeater/Codex/Fucking Kill Records/Kellerassel Records/2019 Full Length Review

  Toadeater  are  a  band  from  Germany  that  has  had  music  reviewed  before  in  this  zine  and  on  this  recording  plays  a  mixture  of  atmospheric  post  black  metal,  crust  and  hardcore  punk  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2019  album  "Codex"  which  will  be  released  in  August  as  a  joint  effort  between  Fucking  Kill  and  Kellerassel  Records.

  Atmospheric  drones  and  soundscapes  start  off  the  album  before  going  into  a  very  fast  and  raw  musical  direction  which  also  uses  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  while  the  vocals  are  a  mixture  of  black  metal  screams  and  angry  shouts  as  well  as  the  music  also  adding  in  elements  of  crust  punk.

  Post  metal  influences  can  also  be  heard  in  some  parts  of  the  music  while  clean  playing  can  also  be heard  in  certain  sections  of  the  recording.  Throughout  the  album  you  can  also  hear  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  having  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.

  Melodies  can  also  be  heard  in  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  as  well  as  some  of  the  songs  also  adding  in  influences  of  hardcore  punk  and  as  the  album  progresses  clean  playing  can  also  be  heard  in  certain  sections  of  the  recording,  one  of  the  tracks  is  an  interlude  and  one  song  also  adds  touches  of  shoegaze  onto  the  recording.  The  production  sounds  very  raw  and  heavy  while  the  lyrics  cover  dark  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Toadeater  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  atmospheric  post  black  metal,  crust  and  hardcore  punk,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Leviathan"  "Parasite"  and  "Codex".  8  out  of  10.

Toadeater/2018 Demo Review

  Toadeater  are  a  band  from  Germany  that  plays  a  mixture  of  post  black  metal,  crust  and  hardcore  punk  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  released  2018  demo.

  Shoegaze  style  guitar  leads  start  off   the  demo  along  with  some  atmospheric  sounds  before  going  into  a  heavier  direction  while  the  vocals  bring  in  angry  black  metal  screams  along  with  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  also  using  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  which  also  gives  the  music  more  of  a  raw  feeling.

  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  some  clean  post  rock  style  playing  at  times  while  the  music  also  mixes  in  elements  of  crust  and  hardcore  punk  as  well  as  all  of  the  musical  instruments  having  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.

  Toadeater  plays  a  musical  style  that  takes  black  metal,  crust,  hardcore  punk  and  post  rock  and  mixes  them  together  to  create  a  sound  of  their  own,  the  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  dark  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Toadeater  are  a  very  great  sounding  mixture  of  post  black  metal,  crust  and  hardcore  punk  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Lathe".  8  out  of  10.
