Black Cilice/Votive Fire/Iron Bonehead Productions/2026 Full Length Review

 

  Portugal's  solo  project  Black  Cilice  has  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for  a  raw  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  2026  album  "Votive  Fire"  which  will  be  released  in  May  by  Iron  Bonehead  Productions.

  A  very  dark  and  ritualistic  sound  starts  off  the  album  before  going  into  a  very  fast  and  raw  musical  direction  which  also  utilizes  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats.  Vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  which  are  mixed  low  in  the  mix  and  the  recording  captures  a  very  lo-fi  atmosphere.

  All  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length  while  the  songs  also  add  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts. A  small  amount  of  dark  sounding  melodies  can  also  be  heard  in  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  at  times  and  the  whole  album  also  sticks  to  a  heavier  musical  direction,  guitar  leads  are  also  added  on  the  closing track.

  On  this  recording  Black  Cilice  plays  a  very  raw  and  lo-fi  form  of  black  metal.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  past  lives,  manipulation  of  energy,  isolation,  self-knowledge  and  transcendence  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Black  Cilice  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  raw  and  lo-fi  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Released  By  Fire"  and  "Deconstruction  Of  All  Realties".  8  out  of  10.

Black Cilice/Esoteric Atavism/Iron Bonehead Productions/2022 CD Review

 

  Portugal's  solo  project  Black  Cilice  has  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for  more  of  a  raw  style  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  2022  album  "Esoteric  Atavism"  which  will  be  released  in  July  by  Iron  Bonehead  Productions.

  A  very  fast,  raw  and  lo-fi  sound  starts  off  the  album  along  with  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats  and  tremolo  picking.  Vocals a re  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  while  the  solos  and  leads  are  also  done  in  a  very  chaotic  style  and  a  couple  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length.

  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  while  the  riffs  also  add  in  a  good  amount  of  dark  sounding  melodies.  A  lot  of  the  music  also  shows  an  influence  of  the  more  underground  90's  to  early  2000's  style  which  they  also  update  for  the  more  modern  era  along  with  all  of  the  music  also  sticking  to  a  heavier  direction.

  On  this  recording  Black  Cilice  remains  true  to  the  raw  and  lo-fi  style  of  black  metal  that  he  has  established  on  previous  releases.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  Occultism  and  Esotericism  themes.      

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Black  Cilice  and  if  you  are  a f an  of  raw  and  lo-fi  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMEDNED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Channeling  Old  Power"  and  "Towards  Transcendence".  8  out  of  10.

  Black  Cilice  are  a  solo  project  from  Portugal  that  has  had  music  reviewed  before  in  this  zine  and  plays  a  very  raw  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  2021  ep  "Tomb  Emanations"  which  will  be  released  in  December  by  Iron  Bonehead  Productions.

  A  very  dark,  heavy  and  lo-fi  sound  starts  off  the  ep  while  both  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length.  Vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  along  with  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  also  adding  in  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  which  also  gives  the  music  more  of  a  raw  feeling.

  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  while  the  music  also  adds  in  a  decent  amount  of  old  school  influences  as  well  as  remaining  very  modern  at  the  same  time  along  with  the  solos  and  leads  also  being  done  in  a  very  dark  yet  melodic  direction  when  they  are  utilized.

  On  this  recording  Black  Cilice  remains  true  to  the  raw  and  lo-fi  style  of  black  metal  that  was  established  on  previous  releases.  The  production  sounds  very  dark,  raw  and  lo-fi  while  the  lyrics  cover  Satanism,  Occultism,  Misanthropy  and  Death  themes.

  Black  Cilice  are  a  solo  project  from  Portugal  that  plays  a  very  raw  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  2019  album  "Transfixion  Of  Spirits"  which  will  be  released  in  September  by  Iron  Bonehead  Productions.

  A  very  fast,  raw  and  lo-fi  sound  starts  off  the  album  which  also  uses  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats.  Vocals  are  mostly  crazy  sounding  black  metal  screams  while  all  of  the  tracks  are  very  long  and  epic  in  length  and  the  songs  also  add in  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.

  Dark  sounding  melodies can  also  be  heard  in  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  along  with  the  riffs  also  getting  very  repetitive  sounding  at  times.  The  music  also  brings  in  a  great  amount  of  90's  influences  but  also  keeping  modern  at  the  same  time  and  when  guitar  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  style.

  Black  Cilice  plays  a  style  of  black  metal  that  is  very  raw  and  lo-fi  sounding.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  Satanism,  Occultism,  Death  and  Misanthropy  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Black  Cilice  are  a  very  great  sounding  raw  and  lo-fi  black  metal  solo  project  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  album. RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Darkness  And  Fog"  and  "Revelations".  8  out  of  10.
