Can you tell us a little bit about the band for those that have never heard of you before?
Hunter’s Ground is a ritual music project based in and around the Appalachian bioregion of these so-called “United States of America.”
How would you describe your musical sound?
Our surface sound is certainly within the realm of the black metal genre, but we have grown organically from that root. Our music is ritual: Hunter’s Ground is not a band, it is an invocation. Each composition is a Song of Power used to bring about the growing storm.

What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band explores with the music?
Our lyrical concepts weave a new mythology of what is now known as the North American landscape- its flora and fauna, its past and its future. As sons of this land, we are constantly involved, through the living of our lives, in the re-telling of the ever-true myths of creation, destruction and rebirth. We choose to take an active role in this re-telling through the entity of Hunter’s Ground, to be active participants in a growing mythos that we sing into existence.
What is the meaning and inspiration behind the bands name?
It is meant as a primal name for the land on which we live, and a call to a more Pure form of existence.
What are some of the best shows that the band has played so far and how would you describe your stage performance?
We find ourselves at our best in the surroundings we are most comfortable in: outdoor shows have been most memorable and satisfying. Savage. Primitive. Untamed. Proud.
Do you have any touring plans for the future?
Yes, we have solidified a new line-up and have plans to be on the road as much as possible this year.
On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your music by fans of black metal?
The reviews and feedback for our latest album “No God But the Wild” have been extremely positive on all fronts. We hope to record a new EP this Summer, with plans for a new full-length to be written in the Fall/Winter of 2013.
Are there any other musical projects going on these days?
Some of our members are also in other musical projects, yes. For myself, Hunter’s Ground is my main and only focus- to pour energy elsewhere would be to weaken the growth of the branches.
What direction do you see your music heading into on future releases?
Impossible to say where things will go…we try to remain fluid and experimental, driven by whatever is speaking through us at the time. Entheogenic work, ritual, and time spent in the wilderness have a strong effect on the music being written.
. What are some bands or musical styles that have influenced your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?
Of course, we are all influenced by the classic BM bands, to mention them here would probably be a waste of everyone’s time; also, we are heavily influenced by the indigenous music of many cultures, the language of the rocks and trees, beast and bird.
How would you describe your views on Occultism?
This is an extremely broad question, not one I am certain how to answer in the scope of this brief interview. My personal praxis is far-reaching and much-encompassing, although my roots have always run deep into the northern traditions of runagaldr, seidh, gandreidh and so on. Perhaps a more precise line of questioning on this would be helpful.
Outside of music what are some of your interests?
The Wolves of Vinland. The Galdragildi. The Centurion Method. Keeping a lean body, a sharp mind, and Streaming Sunward.
