Hagzissa are a band from Austria that has had music reviewed before in this zine and on this recording goes for a very old school and occult form of black metal and this is a review of their 2025 ep "Revelry Of A Maltreated Jade" which will be released in December by Iron Bonehead Productions.
Clean playing starts off the ep along with some synths a few seconds later before going into a heavier direction while most of the vocals are high pitched black metal screams. Clear singing can also be heard briefly along with all of the musical instruments also having a very powerful sound to them.
Most of the music is very heavily rooted in the old school era while the faster sections of the songs also add in a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats which also gives the recording more of a raw feeling. Melodies are also added into some of the riffing along with the tracks also adding in a good mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts, when guitar solos and leads are utilized they are also done in a very melodic style, spoken word samples are also added towards the en.
On this recording Hagzissa gets more creative with their old school approach to occult black metal. The production sounds very raw and heavy while the lyrics cover necromancy, Witchcraft, Primitive Magick, Folklore and Horror themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Hagzissa and if you are a fan of old school occult black metal, you should check out this ep. RECOMMENDED TRACK "A Single Flower Coiling". 8 out of 10.
