Issolei/Cilicium/Terratur Possessions/2021 CD Review

 

  This  is  the  final  review  of  a  recording  from  Norway's  Issolei  which  continues  the  dissonant  and  technical  style  of  black  metal  from  previous  releases  and  the  album  will  be  released  on  August  31st  by  Terratur  Possessions  and  called  "Cilicium".

  A  very  fast  and  raw  sound  starts  off  the  album  along  with  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats.  You  can  also  hear  all  of  the  musical  instruments  that  are  present  on  the  recording  while  the  vocals  are  mostly  grim  yet  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  and  all  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length.

  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  while  the  riffs  also  add  in  a  good  amount  of  dark  sounding  melodies.  Atmospheric  sounds  can  also  be  heard  in  some  parts  of  the  album  along  with  some  dissonant  structures  also  being  added  into  some  of  the  riffing.

  At  times  the  music  also  gets  very  technical  sounding  along  with  the  music  also  adding  in  more  old  school  influences  than  the  previous  release  which  also  give  the  songs  more  of  a  second  wave  touch  but  keeping  it  modern  at  the  same  time  and  on  the  closing  track  a  small  amount  of  synths  can  also  be  heard.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  dark,  scientific,  mythological  and  metaphysical  themes.  

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Issolei  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  dissonant  and  technical  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "The  Awakening"  and  "King  Apophis".  8  out  of  10.

      

Issolei/Devouring Current Pt. 2 - Treacherous Ascent/Terratur Possessions/2021 EP Review

 

  This  is  another  review  of  a  recording  from  Issolei  that  continues  the  dissonant  and  technical  style  of  black  metal  from  previous  releases  and  the  ep  is  called  "Devouring  Current  Pt.  2  -  Treacherous  Ascent"  and  will  be  released  by  Terratur  Possessions.

  Atmospheric  sounding  synths  start  off  the  ep  before  adding  some  clean  playing  onto  the  recording  before  going  into  a  heavier  direction.  When  the  music  speeds  up  a  decent  amount  of  blast  beats  can  be  heard  while  the  music  also  gets  very  technical  and  dissonant  sounding  at  times  and  the  vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams.

  Dark  sounding  melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  while  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  the  tremolo  picking  also  giving  the  music  more  of  a  raw  feeling  when  it  is  utilized.

  All  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length  and  at  times  the  music  also  adds  in  some  progressive,  avant  garde  and  experimental  touches  as  well  as  a  brief  use  of  spoken  word  parts  also  being  utilized  towards  the  end.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while the  lyrics  cover  dark,  scientific  and  metaphysical  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Issolei  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  dissonant  and  technical  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  ep.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Evocation  OF  The  Chosen".  8  out  of  10.

  Issolei  are  a  band  from  Norway  that  plays  a  very  technical  and  dissonant  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2021  ep  "Devouring  Current  Pt. 1  -Crystalline  Fractures"  which  will be  released  on  August  31st  by  Terratur  Possessions.

  Grim  black  metal  screams  start  off  the  ep  before  going  into  a  very  fast  and  raw  musical  direction  which  also  utilizes  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats.  At  times  the  music  also  gets  very  technical  and  dissonant  sounding  while  also  adding  in  a  decent  amount  of  melody  and  the  music  also  has  its  atmospheric  moments.

  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  while  clean  playing  can  also  be  heard  at  times.  All  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  along  with  the  solos  and  leads  also  being  done  in  a  very  dark  yet  melodic  style,  clean  playing  can  also  be  heard  in  some  parts  of  the  recording  and  all  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length.

  Issolei  plays  a  style  of  black  metal  that  is  very  technical  and  dissonant  sounding  as  well  as  demonstrating  a  great  amount  of  talent  and  skill.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  dark,  scientific  and  metaphysical  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Issolei  are  a  very  great  sounding  dissonant  and  technical  black  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  ep.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Shifting  Strands".  8  out  of  10.
