Abduction/Toutes Blessent, la Dernière Tue/Finisterian Death End/Frozen Records/2023 Full Length Review

 

  France's  Abduction  has  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for  an  atmospheric,  progressive  and  melancholic  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2023  album  "Toutes  Blessent , la  Dernière  Tue"  which  will  be  released  in  December  as  a  joint  effort  between  Finisterian  Death  End  and  Frozen  Records.

  A  very  fast  and  raw  sound  starts  off  the  album  along  with  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats.  A  great  portion  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length  while  the  vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  along  with  some  clean  singing  also  being  utilized  at  times.

  All  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  while  the  clean  guitars  also  take  the  music  into  more  of  a  progressive  direction  when t hey  are  utilized.  Throughout  the  album  you  can  also  hear  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  and  the  solos  and  leads  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  style.

  At  times  the  music  also  gets  very  atmospheric  sounding  along  with  one  song  also  adding  in  a  brief  use  of  spoken  word  parts.  as  well  as  some  of  the  guitar  leads  also  bringing  in  touches  of  post  metal,  stringed  instruments  can  also  be  heard  briefly  and  the  album  closes  with  a  Mylene  Farmer  cover.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  their  native  tongue  and  cover  historical  French  figures,  social  troubles  and  contemporary  issues.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Abduction  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  atmospheric,  progressive  and  melancholic  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Toutes  Blessent , la  Dernière  Tue"  "Les  Heures Impatientes"  "Carnets  sur  Récifs"  and  "Contre  les  Fers  du  Ciel".  8  out  of  10.

Abduction/Jehanne/Finisterian Dead End/2020 CD Review

  Abduction  are  a  band  from  France  that  had  had  music  reviewed  before  in  this  zine  and  on  this  recording  plays  a  very  atmospheric,  progressive  and  melancholic  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2020  album  "Jehanne"  which  will  be  released  on  April  29th  by  Finisterian  Dead  End.

  Classical  guitars  start  off  the  album  along  with  some  drum  beats  a  few  seconds  later  while  melodic  chants  and  singing  are  also  added  into  some  parts  of  the  recording.  When  the  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats  can  be  heard  as  well  as  the  solos  and  leads  also  being  done  in  a  very  melodic  style.

  Grim  sounding  black  metal  screams  are  also  a  very  huge  part  of  the  recording  while  the  songs  also  add  in  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.  When  tremolo  picking  is  added  into  the  faster  sections  of  the  music  they  also  give  the  songs  more  of  a  raw  feeling  and  all  of  the  musical  instruments  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.

  A  great  portion  of  the  tracks  are  very long  and  epic  in  length  along  with  the  riffs  also  adding  in  a  decent  amount  of  melody  as  well  as  the  synths  also  giving  the  songs  more  of  an  atmospheric  feeling  when  they  are  utilized,  female  vocals  are  also  added  on  some  of  the  tracks  and  at  times  the  music  also  adds  in  a  lot  of  progressive  elements.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  French  and  is  a  concept  album  based  upon  the  life  of  Joan  Of  Arc.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Abduction  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  atmospheric,  progressive  and  melancholic  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Par  Ce  Coeur  Les  Lys  Fleurissent"  "Dieu  En  Soit  Garde"  and  "Aux  Marches  De  Lorraine".  8/5  out  of  10.

Abduction/A I'Heure du Crepuscule/Finisterian Dead End/2018 CD Review

  Abduction  not  to  be  confused  with  the  band  from  the  United  Kingdom  with  the  same  name  are  a  band  from  France  that  plays  an  intense  and  melancholic  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2018  album  "A  I'Heure  du  Crepuscule"  which  was  released  in  Finesterian  Dead  End.

  Acoustic  guitar  playing  starts  off  the  album  along  with  some  spoken  word  parts  being  used  briefly  while  all  of  the  musical  instruments  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  before  going  into a   very  fast  and  raw  direction  which  also  uses  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats  and  tremolo  picking.

  Vocals  are  mostly  grim  yet  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  while  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  most  of  the  tracks  being  very  long  and  epic  in  length  as  well  as  some  clean  vocals  also  being  added  into  certain  sections  of  the  recording.

  At  times  the  music  gets  very  progressive  while  the  songs  also  mix  in  some  of  the  more  modern  atmospheric  style  along  with  the  solos  and  leads  also  being  done  in  a  very  melodic  fashion  and  they  also  bring  in  a  brief  instrumental  which  also  introduces  post  rock  elements  onto  the  recording  before  returning  back  to  a  heavier  direction  and  a  couple  track  also  introduces  a  brief  use  of  spoken  word  parts  and  whispers  onto  the  recording.

  Abduction  plays  a  style  of  black  metal  that  is  very  melodic,  atmospheric,  progressive  and  melancholic  sounding,  the  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  French  and  cover  darkness,  history,  death,  misanthropy,  religion  and  wilderness  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Abduction  are  a  very  great  sounding  intense  and  melancholic  black  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "A  I'Heure  du  Crepuscule"  and  "La  Grande  Illusion".  8/5  out  of  10.
