Goatcraft/Plutonian Shore/Hessian Form/2020 Split Album Review

  This  is  a  review  of  a  split  album  between  Texas's  Goatcraft  and  Plutonian  Shore  which  will  be released  in  September  by  Hessian  Form  and  we  will  start  off  the  review  with  Goatcraft  a  solo  project  that  plays  a  mixture  of  neo-classical  and  ambient.

  His  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  some  dark  soundscapes  and  programmed  beats  which  also  gives the  music  more  of  a  ritualistic  feeling.  When  synths  are  utilized  they  also  bring  in  elements  of  neo-classical  and  ambient  while  all  of  the  music  is  instrumental  and  all  of  the tracks  also  sound  very  different  from  each  other  and  the  production  also  sounds  very  dark  as  well  as  the  song  themes  dealing  with  space  and  planets.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Goatcraft  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  neo-classical  and  ambient,  you  should  check  out his  side  of  the  split.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Mars".

  Next  up  is  Plutionian  Shore  a  band  that  has  had  music  reviewed  before  in  this  zine  and  plays  an  occult  form  of  black  metal.

  Their  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  a  very  dark  and  heavy  sound  while  the  vocals  are  mostly  grim  sounding  black  metal  screams.  Melodies  are  also  added  into  a  lot  of  the  guitar  riffing  along  with  the  faster  sections  of   the  songs  also  adding  in  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  which  also  gives  the  music  more  of  a  raw  feeling.

  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  along  with  the  songs  also  adding  in  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  as  well  as  all  of  their  music  also  sticking  to  a  heavier  direction.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and r aw  while  the  lyrics  cover  Occultism  and  Mysticism  themes. 

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Plutonian  Shore  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  occult  black  metal,you  should  check  out  their  side  of  the  split.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "AEO".

  In  conclusion  I  feel  this  is  a  very  great  sounding  split  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  ambient,  neo-classical  and  occult  black  emtal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  8 out  of  10.

Hvile I Kaos/Emerson Sinclair/Never Without The Pentagram/Metal Assault Records/2020 Split Album Review

    This  is  a  review  of  a  split  album  between  California's  Hvile  I  Kaos  and  Ohio's  Emerson  Sinclair  called  "Never  Without  The  Pentagram"  which  will  be  released  in  July  by  metal  Assault  Records  and  we  will  start  off  the  review  with  Hvile I  Kaos  who  returns  with  his  mixture  of  occult  cellestic  black  metal,  ritual  and  chamber  music.

  His  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  some  cellos  which  also  brings  avant  garde,  classical  and  chamber  music  elements  onto  the  recording,  At  times  the  music  also  gets  very  ritualistic  sounding  while  both  of his  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length  along  with  some  persuasion  style  instruments  also  being  utilized  at  times.

  Both  of  the  tracks  are  also  instrumental  along  with  the  music  also  capturing  the  darkness  of  occult  black  metal.  The  cello's  also  get  very  diverse  sounding  at  times  as  well  as  some  acoustic  guitars  also  being  utilized  briefly,  the  closing  track  also  adds  in  a  touch  of  psychedelia.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  while  the  song  themes  revolve  around  the  occult  and  left  hand  path.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Hvile  I  Kaos  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  occult  cellestic  black  metal,  ritual  and  chamber  music,  you  should  check  out  his  side  of  the  split.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Rise,  Engulf,  Envenom".

  Next  up  is  Emerson  Sinclair  a  solo  artist  that  plays  a  musical  style  that  mixes  classic  rock,  extreme  metal,  grunge,  electronic,  baroque  and  traditional  liturgical  music.

  Her  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  some  stringed  instruments  while  the  clean  vocals  also  gives  the  music  more  of  an  operatic  atmosphere.  Synths  and  electronic  music  elements  can  also  be  heard  in  some  parts  of  the  recording  along  with  the  spoken  word  parts  giving  the  music  more  of  a  ritualistic  feeling.

  Touches  of  black  metal  can  also  be  heard  in  the  spoken  word  parts  along  with  some  atmospheric  sounding  drones  also  being  utilized  at  times.  Programmed  beats  can  also  be  heard  in  some  parts  of  the  recording  as  well  as  all  of  the  tracks  also  sounding  very  different  from  each  other.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  while  the  lyrics  cover  psychoanalytic  character  studies,  metal  illness,  drams,  occultism,  the  glory  of  the  old  gods  and  the  relationship  between  humans  and  the  natural  world.

  In  my  opinion  Emerson  Sinclair  is  a  very  great  sounding  experimental,  ritualistic,  neo-classical  and  avant  garde  solo  artist  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  her  side  of  the  split.   RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Graphite"  and  "Singularity".

  In  conclusion  I  feel  this  is  a  very  great  sounding  split  and  recommend  it  to  all  fans  of  ritualistic  occult  black  metal,  avant  garde,  neo-classical,  and  avant  garde  music.  8  out  of  10.

Jennifer Christensen/Twilight Fauna/Red River Records/2015 Split EP Review

  This  is  a  review  of  a  split  ep  between Oregon's  Jennifer  Christensen  and  Tennessee's  Twilight  Fauna  which  will  be  released  in  December  by  Red  River  Family  Records  and  we  will  start  off  the  review  with  Jennifer  Christensen  a  solo  artist  best  known  for  her  work  in  the  black  metal  band  Mollehoj  and  goes  for  more  of  a  neo-classical  direction  with  her  solo  project.

  Her  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  dark  sounding  cello's  which  also  gives  the  song  more  of  a  haunting  classical  music  feeling  and  the  track  also  brings  in  other  stringed  instruments  and  the  song  is  all  instrumental  and  is  6  minutes  in  length  along  with  the  track  staying  away  from  any  style  of  black  metal  sounds  and  the production  sounds very  dark.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  a  very  great  sounding  track  from  Jennifer  Christensen  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  neo-classical,  you  should  check  out  her  side  of  the  split.

Next  up  is  Twilight  Fauna  a  solo  project  from  Tennessee  that  has  been  featured  plenty  of  times  in  this  zine  and  plays  an  atmospheric  form  of  black  metal  on  other  releases  while  he  goes  into  more  of  an  experimental  direction  with  this  song.

 His  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  avant  garde  sounds  and  drones  and  a  few seconds  later  black  metal  guitar  riffs  are  added  into  the  music  and  you  can  also  hear  some  vocals  in  the  background  at  times  and  after  a  few  minutes  clean  playing  in  added  into  the  song  briefly  which  is  also  7  minutes  in  length  and  when  solos  and  leads  are  used  they  bring  in  more  of  a  modern  and  atmospheric  black  metal  style,  the  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  song  themes  cover  darkness  and  nature.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  track  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  experimental  music  and  atmospheric  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  his  song.

  In  conclusion  I  fell  this  is  a  very  great  sounding  split  and  I  would  recommend  it  to  all  fans  of  experimental,  neo-classical  and  atmospheric  black  metal.  8  out  of  10.
