While They Sleep/Les Fleurs Du Mal/Symbol Of Domination Productions/More Hate Productions/2017 CD Review

  While  They  Sleep  are  a  solo  project  from  Ukraine  that  has  been  featured  before  in  this  zine  and  plays  a  very  raw  and  atmospheric  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2017  album  "Les  Fleurs  Du  Mal"  which  was  released  as  a  joint  effort  between  Symbol Of  Domination  and  More  Hate  Productions.

  Water  sounds  along  with  some  heavy  yet  melodic  riffing  starts  off  the  album  along  with  some  drum  beats  and  powerful  sounding  bass  guitars  and  after  awhile  grim  black  metal  screams  make  their  presence  known  and  when  the  music  speeds  up a   great  amount  of  blast  beats  can  be  heard.

  During  the  faster  sections  of t he  songs  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  can  be  heard  which  also  gives  the  music  a  more  raw  feeling  and  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and fast  parts  while  the  solos  and  leads  bring  in  a  very  dark  yet  melodic  style  and  a  great  portion  of  the  tracks  are  very  long  and  epic  in  length  and  the  music  also  always  remains  heavy.

  While  They  Sleep  creates  another  recording t hat  remains  true  to  the  raw  and  atmospheric  style  of  black  metal  from  the  previous  release,  the  production  sounds  very  dark  and  heavy  while t he  lyrics  cover  dark,  metaphysical  and  paranormal  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  While  They  Sleep  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  raw  and  atmospheric  black  metal,  you  should c heck  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "The  Darkness"  "The  Vampire"  and  "The  Ghost".  8  out  of  10.

While They Sleep/La Nausee/Symbol Of Domination Productions/2016 CD Review

  While  They  Sleep  are  a  solo  project from  Ukraine  that  plays  a very  raw  and  old  school  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  2016  album  "La  Nausee"  which  was  released  by  Symbol  Of  Domination  Productions.

  Water  sounds  start  off  the  album  before  going  into  a  heavier  musical  direction  which  also  introduces  both  melodic  guitar  leads  and  riffs  onto  the  recording  as  well  as  some  grim  black metal screams  and  when  the  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  can  be  heard  which  also  gives  the  music  more of  a  raw  feeling.

  Throughout  the  recording  there  is  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  and  some  of  the  tracks  are  very  long  and  epic  in  length  and  the  music  is  perfectly  balanced  between  90's  second  wave  influences  and  2004  era  U.S  black  metal  influences  and  as  the  album  progresses  atmospheric  sounds  along  with  clean  playing  can  be  heard  briefly  in  certain  sections  of  the  recording  and  the  album  closes  with an  instrumental  track..

  While  They  Sleep  plays  a  style  of  black  metal  that  is  very  raw  in  the  old  school  tradition  while  also  mixing  in  some  of  the  modern  atmospheric  and  depressive  elements  to  create  a  very  dark  sounding  recording,  the  production  sounds  very  dark,  raw  and  heavy  while  the  lyrics  cover  dark,  depressive  and  metaphysical  themes.

  In my opinion  While  They  Sleep  are  a  very  great  sounding  raw  and  atmospheric  black  metal  solo  project  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "In  Harbor  Extinguished  Last  Lantern"  "Of  Village"  "Hermaphodite  Of  Being"  and  "Melencolia".  8 out  of  10.
