Malamorte/God Needs Evil/Revalve Records/2020 Full Length Review

  Italy's  Malmorte  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  them  moving  more  away  from  their  black  metal  style  and  focusing  more  on  an  occult  style  of  heavy  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2020  album  "God  Needs  Evil"  which  will  be  released  on  February  21st  by  Revalve  Records.

  Horror  movie  samples  start  off  the  album  before  going  into  more  of  a  heavier  and  melodic  musical  direction.  Vocals  are  done  in  more  of  a  clean  traditional  metal  style  while  the  music  is  very  heavily  rooted  in  an  80's  style  along  with  the  solos  and  leads  also  bringing  in  a  great  amount  of  melody.

  All  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  while  a  small  amount  of  blast  beats  can  be  heard  when  the  music  speeds  up.  The  songs  also  add  in  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  some  elements  of  power   and  speed  metal  also  being  utilized  at  times.

  Touches  of  black  metal  can  also  be  heard  in  the  more  aggressive  parts  of  the  tracks  and  when  spoken  words  are  utilized  they also  give  the  music  more  of  a  ritualistic  feeling,  one  track  also  introduces  clean  playing  onto  the  recording  as  well  as  a  couple  of  songs  being  long  and  epic  in  length  and  as  the  album  progresses  a  brief  use  of  Gregorian  chants  chant  also  be  heard.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  Satanism,  Occultism  and  Evil  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Malamorte  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  occult  heavy  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "The  Demons  The  Devour  Your  Soul"  "Psycho  Priest"  "A  Demon  Dressed  by  Angel"  and  "Suicide  Forest".  8  out  of  10.

Malamorte/Hell For All/Rockshot Records/2019 Full Length Review

  Malamorte  are  a  band  from  Italy  that  has  been  featured  before  in  this  zine  and  on  their  early  recordings  played  more  of  a  traditional  black  metal  style  but  have  evolved  into  more  of  a  mixture  of  heavy,  power,  thrash  and  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  album  "Hell  For  All"  which  will  be  released  in  2019  by  Rockshot  Records.

  A  very  epic  sounding  intro  starts  off  the  album  before  going  into  more  of  a  thrash  influenced  direction  while  the  vocals  are  done  in  clean  of  a  clean  traditional  metal  style  along  with  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  also  bringing  in  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats  and  the  music  has  a  lot  of  80's  influences.

  Elements  of  black  metal  can  also  be  heard  in  the  faster  sections  of  the  music  while  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  all  of  the  musical  instruments  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to them  as  well  as  the  solos  and  leads  being  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  and  the  music  also  adds  in  elements  of  power  metal  and  as  the  album  progresses  a  brief  use  of  acoustic  guitars  and  organs  can  also  be  heard.

  On  his  recording  Malamorte  moves  away  from  the  traditional  style  of  black  metal  of  previous  releases  to  go  into  more  of  a  mixture  of  heavy,  power,  thrash  and  black  metal,  the  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  Satanism,  Occultism,  Anti  Christianity  and  Mysticism  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Malamorte  and  while  some  of  the  more  hardcore  black  metal  fans  might  not  like  the  new  style,  I  can  see  fans  of   thrash,  power  and  heavy  metal  enjoying  the  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Antichrist"  "Hell  For  All""Satan's  Slave"  and  "God  Is  Nothing".  8  out  of  10.

Malamorte Interview

1.For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about the band?
The band is born as side-project, for the purpose to play something more extreme of that music sound normally with my main band.

2.Recently you have released a new album, how would you describe the musical sound that is presented on the recording and also how does it differ from the stuff you have released in the past?
The past release have a raw sound and inspired by bands like Deathspell Omega, Lunar Aurora and so on. The past album was made with no special claims or objectives, but the songs are varied and with good ideas

3.The band has been around since 2009 but so far has only put out 2 releases, can you tell us a little bit more about the first 5 years?
My main band is Lord Vampyr, in the meantime i realized 3 albums with 3 tour in Mexico. Actually I'm working in some projects and i think back to work on the new album of Malamorte after summer.

4.What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band explores with the music?
In this release I'm focused on satanic emotions, mental health and the lies of christianity and bible

5.The band labels it's music as 'Satanic-Horror black metal, can you tell us a little bit more about this term and your interest in Satanism and Occultism?
In the past i was more interested in Occultism and modern Satanism (Crowley, Dion Fortune....).  Now the word "Satanic" is only a way to define something against Christian religion, lyrics, attitude...

6.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Malamorte'?
Malmorte is one of the names by which was called the plague, in the logo you will notice that there are two doctors of the plague.

7.What are some of the best shows that the band has played so far and also how would you describe your stage performance?
We are a not a live band, cause that is my project and i play some instruments, i don't know if i will play in the future some songs of malamorte in my shows

8.Do you have any touring or show plans for the new album?
No, for the moment

9.On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your music by fans of black metal?
I don't know, it is early to say, the CD was released a few day ago, but the first reviews are all positive

10.What is going on with some of the other bands or musical projects these days that some of the band members are a part of?
Actually we are working on the new album of Lord Vampyr and I'm working on two projects that will be announced in the coming months

11.Where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?
I think there will always be a black metal component in the bottom, but with an eye toward an occult metal very close to Mercyful Fate/Kind Diamond

12.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?
Mercyful Fate, Metal Church, Savatage (old), Iron Maiden, Slayer and so on...I listen several bands but in this moment I'm back to hear old school death metal.

Malamorte/Devilish Illusions/Satanath Records/Murdher Records/2016 CD Review

  Malamorte  are  a  band  from  Italy  that  plays  an  occult  form  of  black  metal and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2016  album  "Devilish  Illusions"  which  was  released  as  a  joint  effort  between  Satanath  Records  and  Murdher  Records.

  A  very dark  and  ritualistic  synth  starts  off  the  album  and  also  gives  the  recording  more  of  an  avant  garde  feeling  and  after  the  intro  the  music  goes  into  a  very  fast  and  raw  black  metal  direction t hat  also  utilizes  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking,  blast  beats  and  grim  screams  while  also  having  a  good  amount  of  melody.

  A  lot  of  second  wave  elements  can  be  heard  in  the  music  and  all  of  the  musical  instruments  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  the  solos  and  leads  also  use  a  great  amount  of  melody  and  throughout  the  recording  you can  hear  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  and  synths  also  make  a return  in  certain  sections  of  the  recording.

  At  times  the  songs  bring  in  the  atmosphere  atmosphere  of  either  an  old  King  Diamond  or  Mercyful  Fate  recording  and  some  of  the  riffing  also  brings  in  a  catchy  80's  metal  vibe  at  times  and  clean  playing  along  with  whispers  can also  be  heard  briefly  as  well as  a  small  amount  of  spoken  word  parts  and  some  of  the  tracks  are  very  long  and  epic  in  length.

  Malmorte  plays  a  style  of  occult  black  metal  that  is  very  raw  and  old  school  while  also  being  ritualistic  at  times  and  adding  in  influences  of  80's  metal  which  makes  the  music  stand  out  a  but  more,  the  production  sounds  very raw  yet  heavy  at  the  same  time  while  the  lyrics  cover  Luciferian,  Occultism  and  Left  Hand  Path  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Malamorte  are  a  very  great  sounding  raw  and  old  school  occult  black  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Devilish  Illusions"  "Possession"  and  "Lucifer's  Rebellion".  8/2  out  of  10.
