Narrenwind/Gorzkie plony/Pagan Records/2025 Full Length Review

 

  Poland's  Narrenwind  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for  a  blackened  form  of  heavy  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2025  album  "Gorzkie  plony"  which  will  be  released  in  September  by  Pagan  Records.

  A  very  hard  and  heavy  sound  starts  off  the  album  while  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.  Vocals  are  mostly  grim  sounding  black  metal  screams  along  with  the  recording  also  adding  in  a  lot  of  traditional  metal  elements  and  the  solos  and  leads  also  enhance  on  that  style.

  Spoken  words  can  also  be  heard  briefly  while  clean  playing  is  also  added  on  a  couple  of  tracks.  A  lot  of  the  music  also  mixes  the  80's  style  in  with  the  more  modern  form  of  black  metal  along  with  the  riffs  and  leads  also  adding  in  a  great  amount  of  melody  and  the  whole  album  also  sticks  to  more  of  a  mid  tempo  direction,  clean  playing  can  also  be  heard  briefly.  and  the  vocals  on  the  closing  track  also  add  in  a  semi  melodic  touch

  On  this  recording  Narrenwind  goes  into  more  of  a  blackened  heavy  metal  direction  which  is  also  very  different  from  their  previous  releases.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  Polish  and  cover  the  poetry  of  Kryzsztof  Baczynski,  Halina  Poswiatowska  and  Tadeusz  Micinski. 

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Narrenwind  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  blackened  heavy  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Córko  Wichrów,  Diabłów  i  Nocy"  "Nikt  nie  wie"  and  "Statek  Głupcow".  8  out  of  10.

Fell Omen/Caelid Dog Summer/True Cult Records/2025 Full Length Review

 

  Fell  Omen  are  a  solo  project  from  Greece  that  has  had  music  reviewed  before  in  this  zine  and  on  this  recording  goes  for  a  medieval  form  of  black  metal  with  elements  of  punk,  dungeon  synth  and  traditional  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  2025  album  "Caelid  Dog  Summer"  which  will  be  released  in  August  by  True  Cult  Records.

  Dungeon  synth  style  synths  which  also  adds  in a  medieval  atmosphere  start  off  the  album  before  going  into  more  of  a  heavier  direction.  A  lot  of  the  riffs  and  solos  also bring  in  more  of  an  80's  style  while  also  adding  in  a  great  amount  of  melody  along  with  the  music  also  bringing  in  the  aggression  of  punk  rock.

  Vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  while  samples  can  also  be  heard  on  a  few  songs.  Clean  playing  is  also  added  on  one  song  along  with  the  music  also  getting  very  raw  sounding  at  times  and  when  the  music  finally  speeds  up  a  small  amount  of  blast  beats  can  also  be  heard.  back  up  shouts  can  also  be  heard  briefly  and  a  later  track  also  adds  in  some  chants,  clear  vocals  and  choirs  and  as  the  album  progresses  an  instrumental  can  also  be  heard.

  On  this  recording  Fell  Omen  focuses  more  of  a  punk  and  heavy  metal  inspired  form  of  medieval  black  metal  as  well  as  adding  in  a  few  touches  of  dungeon  synth  to  create  something  different.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  the  Elden  Ring.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Fell  Omen  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  medieval  black  metal  with  elements  of  punk,  heavy  metal  and  dungeon  synth,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Northern  Lights  Bomb"  and  "The  Fire  is  Still  Warm".  8  out  of  10.

Wolfdom/I Belong To Satan/Grimm Distribution/2024 Full Length Review

 

  Wolfdom  are  an  international  band  with  members  from  Russia  and  Ukraine  that  has  had  music  reviewed  before  in t his  zine  and  on  this  recording  goes  for  a  satanic  form  of  black  metal  with  elements  of  traditional  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2024  album  "I  Belong  To  Satan"  which  was  released  by  Grimm  Distribution.

  A  very  distorted  sound  starts  off  the  album  before  going  into  a  heavier  direction  while  the  riffs  also  mix  in  elements  of  traditional  metal.  Vocals  are  mostly  grim  sounding  black  metal  screams  along  with  the  mid  tempo  sections  also  adding  in  touches  of  black'n'roll  and  death  metal  growls  can  also  be  heard  briefly.

  A  lot  of  the  music  is  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  old  school  era  while  also  sounding  very  modern  at  the  same  time.  When  the  music  speeds  up  a  decent  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  can  be  heard  which  also  gives  the  recording  more  of  a  raw  feeling  along  with  the  songs  also  adding  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.

  Some  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length  along  with  one  song also  being  s  ritualistic  instrumental  that  also  adds  in  a  brief  use  of  clean  playing  and  chants  before  returning  back  to  a  heavier  direction.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  Satanism,  Death  and  Darkness  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Wolfdom  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  satanic  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "I'm  The  Fear  In  The  Valley  Of  Death"  "In  the  Endless  Domain  Of  Satan"  and  "Quo  Vadis".  8  out  of  10.

Sorceröt/Rotten Magick/Naturmacht Productions/2025 Full Length Review

 

  Sorceröt  are  a  band  from  Cincinnati,  Ohio  that  plays  epic  mixture  of  black  and  heavy  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2025  album  "Rotten  Magick"  which  will  be  released  in  July  by  Naturmacht  Productions.

  Drum  beats  start  off  the  album  along  with  some  heavier  riffing  a  few  seconds  later  while  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.  Vocals  are  mostly  angry  sounding  black  metal  screams  while  the  riffs  also  add  in  a  great  amount  of  melody  and  the  recording  also  adds  in  a  lot  of  traditional  metal  elements.

  The  album  also  takes  some  influence  from  the  80's  and  90's  era  and  give  them  more  of  a  modern  touch.  When  the  music  speeds  up  a  decent  amount  of  blast  beats  can  also  be  heard  along  with  the  solos  and  leads  also  bringing  in  more  of  a  melodic  old  school  metal  style  and  some  of  the  tracks  also  add  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and fast  parts  

  When  tremolo  picking  is  added  into  the  faster  riffing  it  also  gives  the  recording  more  of  a  raw  feeling  and  acoustic  guitars  can  also  be  heard  briefly  and  one  track  also  adds  in a   small  amount  of  chants  and  spoken  words.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  myths  and  madness.

  In  my  opinion  Sorceröt  are  a  very  great  sounding  epic  mixture  of  black  and  heavy  metal  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Nightmare  Cauldron"  "Noose  of  Flesh"  and  "Dragonriders  Ascend'.  8  out  of  10.

Goats Of Doom/INRI/Purity Through Fire/2025 Full Length Review

 

  Finland's  Goats  Of  Doom  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  a  very  raw  and  melodic  form  of  satanic  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2025  album "INRI"  which  will  be  released  in  April  by  Purity  Through  Fire.

  Spoken  words  start  off  the  album  before  going  into  a  very  fast  and  raw  musical  direction  which  also  utilizes  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats.  Melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  while  the  vocals  bring  in  a  mixture  of  grim  black  metal  screams  and  clean  singing.

  The  music  also  adds  in  a  lot  of  old  school  influences  while  the  solos  and  leads  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  style.  All  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  along  with  the  songs  also  adding  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.

 The  album  also  mixes  in  elements  of  traditional  and  thrash  metal  at  times  along  with  a  couple  of  the  tracks  also  being  very  long  and  epic  in  length  and  a  couple  of  songs  also  adds  in  a  small  amount  of  acoustic  guitars.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  Finnish  and  cover  Satanism,  Occultism,  Nihilism  and  Misanthropy  themes. 

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Goats  Of  Doom  and  if  you  are  fan  of  raw  and  melodic  satanic  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  " Vihani  saatanan  mahdilla  roihuaa"  "Kunniattomat"  and  "INRI".  8  out  of  10.

Blood Cult/We're Gonna Take Your Soul/Witches Brew/Illinoisan Thunder/2025 Full Length Review

 

  Blood  Cult  are  a  band  from  Illinois  that  has  been  featured  before  in  this  zine  and  started  out  with  a  musical  style  they  used  to  describe  as  redneck  black  metal  and  over  the  years  have  evolved  into  more  of  a  mixture  of  southern  rock  and  traditional  metal and  this  is  a  review  of  their  album  "We're  Gonna  Take  Your  Soul"  which  will  be  released  in  2025  as  a  joint  effort  between  Witches  Brew  and  Illinoisan  Thunder.

  A  very  dark  yet  heavy  sound  starts  off  the  album  along  with  some  psychedelic  sounding  keyboards  a  few  seconds  later.  A  lot  of  the  riffing  and  clear  vocals  also  bring  in  elements  of  southern  rock  along  with  some  touches  of  classic  70's  metal  and  the  solos  and  leads  also  remain  true  to  a  more  retro  style.

  All  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  while  some  of  the  riffing  also  shows  an  influence  of  blues  rock.  At  times  the   album  also  gets  very  progressive  sounding  along  with  some  of  the  riffing  also  capturing  the  raw  energy  of  punk  rock  and  most  of  the  album  sticks  to  a  mid  tempo  direction.

  On  this  recording  Blood  Cult  moves  way  from  the  more  black  metal  side  of  their  previous  releases  and  goes  for  more  of  a  mixture  of  traditional  70's  metal  and  southern  rock.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  the  Satanic  Panic  era  of  the  80's  and  early  90's.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  album  from  Blood  Cult  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  classic  metal  and  70's  rock,  you  should  check  out  this  recording.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Demon  Seed"  "I  Never  Go  Away"  "The  Devil's  Child"  and  "Love".  8  out  of  10.

  Ohio's  Plaguewielder  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for  a  mixture  of  post  black,  gothic  and  heavy  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  released  album  "In  Dust  And  Ash"  which  will  be  released  sometime  in  2024.

  Clean  playing  and  atmospheric  soundscapes  start  off  the  album  while  synths  can  also  be  heard  at  times.  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  post  metal  style  along  with  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  having  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  the  vocals  are  done  in  more  of  an  angry  black  metal  style

  Melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  while  the  clear  vocals  also  add  in  a  touch  of  gothic  metal.  When  the  music  speeds  up  a  decent  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  can  be  heard  which  also  gives  the  songs  more  of  a  raw  feeling  along  with  some  of  the  solos  and  leads  also  bringing  in  elements  of  traditional  metal  and  most  of  the  album  also  sticks  to  more  of  a  mid  tempo  direction,  synths  are  also  added  towards  the  end.

  On  this  recording  Plagueweilder  take  post  black,  gothic  and  traditional  metal  and  mixes  them  together  to  create  a  very  diverse  album.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  the  forgotten  working  class.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Plagueweilder  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  post  black,  gothic  and  heavy  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Spaces"  "Manifest"  and  "Ash".  8  out  of  10.

  Portugal's  Filli  Nigrantium  Infernalium  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for  a  mixture  of  black,  thrash,  speed  and  heavy  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2024  album  "Pérfida  Contracção  do  Aço"  which  will  be  released  on  November  29th  by  Osmose  Productions.

  Angry  sounding  black  emtal  screams  start  off  the  album  before  going  into  a  very  fast  and  raw  musical  direction  which  also  utilizes  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats.  All  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  melodies  are  also added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing.

  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  while  the  riffs  also  add  in  a  lot  of  thrash  and  speed  metal  elements.  When  the  music  slows  down  it  also  adds  in  a  touch  of  doom  metal  along  with  the  songs  also  adding  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.

  A  lot  of  the  music  is  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  old  school  tradition  as  well  as  remaining  very  modern  at  the  same  time  as  well  as  some  of  the  riffing  and  solos  also  adding  in  influences  of  traditional  metal,  some  of  the  vocals  also  add  in  a  semi  melodic  touch  and  one  song  also  adds  in  a  brief  use  of  folk  instruments,  choirs  and  spoken  word  parts  can  also  be  heard  briefly.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  Portuguese  and  cover  Occultism,  Satanism  and  Anti  Christianity  themes.

  A  very  dark,  heavy  and  melodic  sound  starts  off  the  album  along  with  the  vocals  being  mostly  grim  sounding  black  metal  screams.  All  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  also have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  while  the  solos  and  leads  also  add  in  a  great  amount  of  melody  and  some  of  the  riffing  adds  in  elements  of  90's  metal.

  When  the  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  can  be  heard  which  also  gives  the  songs  more  of  a  raw  feeling.  A  lot  of  the  music  is  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  second  wave  era  of  black  metal  along  with  the  album  also  adding  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.

  Some  of  the  tracks  are  also  long  and  epic  in  length  as  well  as  one  song  also  adding  in  a  brief  use  of  spoken  word  parts  and  clean  playing  can  also  be  heard  briefly  and  as  the  album  progress  a  small  amount  of  clear  vocals  are  also  utilized,  the  closing  track  also  adds  in  some  synths  and  night  sounds.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  the  untamable  power  of  darkness.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Nocturnal  Wanderer  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  old  school  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Waning  Crescent"  "Before  The  Dawn"  and  "Waut  For  The  Blackout".  8  out  of  10.

Blasfeme Interview

 

1. Can you give us an update on what has been going on with the band since the recording of the new album?

We have been preparing for some festival shows over the summer and compiling ideas for the next release

2.In July you have a new album coming out, musically how does it differ from the stuff you have released in the past?

Our early work was very heavy, discordant, this is more along the lines of traditional sounding black metal, and in keeping with tradition, we go balls to the wall, man. The record was engineered and recorded by Timothy Vincent whom we worked with on the Fuck Your Starving Planet EP, and mixed and mastered by Ahzari (Beyond Man, Saligia)

3.Most of the band members also have experience playing other types of extreme metal, what impact does this have on the black metal style of 'Basfeme'?

Not a lot, as what we require is specific to our sound, so to play in any other style doesn't fit. Plus it has been a while since I seriously played any metal style other than our own. I doubt I could write a death metal song these days now that I think about it!

4.What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band explores with the newer music and also how would you describe your progress as songwriters over the years?

The lyrical themes are great to get stuck into. This album deals with occultism/satanism, mythology, European medieval history, old gods.. "Czernobog" has lyrics taken from Neil Gaiman's "American Gods" novel, which he himself granted permission for me to use. "Cachtice 1611" and "Black Legion" are both rooted in factual history, and "Ritualistic Exsanguiation" is inspired by horrific folklore.

Over the years we have had to adapt and rewrite, playing as a 2, 3, 4 and 5 piece.. at this point Blasfeme songwriting is second nature, but by its very nature continues to make me push myself as a musician.

5.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Blasfeme'?

Do I really need to spell this one out? 

6.Can you tell us a little bit more about the artwork that is presented on the new album cover?

It is the coat of arms from the Hungarian Black Army, the largest mercenary force in Europe during the 1400s. The artist Maciej Kamuda recreated it beautifully.. see if you can spot the differences.. and of course added decapitated heads and burning buildings that adds great depth and story.

7.What are some of the best shows that the band has played so far and also how would you describe your stage performance?

At Club Orthodox in Czech Republic was an amazing, fantastic evil atmosphere. Supporting MystifieR in our hometown was great, although the venue did fine us...

Our onstage presence is quite visceral. The early years were darkness and madness, these days we are a focused and devastating attack.

8.Do you have any touring or show plans once the new album is released?

All in the works, but I can't confirm anything past our appearances at Funeral Fest 28 June and Beermageddon 24 Aug.

9.On  a worldwide level how has the reaction been to your music by fans of black metal?

I can't really comment about it on a worldwide level.. I tend to only learn about things like that when others tell me! My mate David told me a Swedish kid came into his shop and went nuts over our t-shirts, saying he had made posters of our album covers.. but I still think he was winding me up!

10.What is going on with some of the other bands or musical projects these days that some of the band members are a part of?

Dialgar also plays in Amputated, My Silent Wake and Guillotine Dream.

Striga drums for Nefarious Dusk and Parusight is always writing his own music. Personally my side project differs dramatically from the other guys in that I also write guitar based hip hop.. so our collective output is quite varied to say the least!

11.Where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?

We'll keep giving you something a little different each time, with the same energy and savagery.

12.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?

It essentially boils down to the music Striga and I grew up on, classic heavy metal, early black metal, some progressive stuff and a love of all things dark and heavy.

I guess recently Finnish black metal has been on my turntable most, and I have been revisiting old Rush albums.

13.Does Occultism play any role in your music?

Absolutely. We are drawn to darkness, and feel comfortable there.

14.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?

Thanks for taking the time to let me take the time to answer your questions! I hope you enjoy the album. It is dedicated to the memory of our brother Jake, Blasfeme's original vocalist and bassist, and my personal best friend, who passed unexpectedly in December 2022.

  When  spoken  word  samples  are  utilized  briefly  they  also  add  more  of  a  ritualistic  touch  to  the  recording  before  returning  back  to  a  heavier  direction  as  well  as  all  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  also  having  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  the  album  closes  with  an  acoustic  instrumental.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  horror,  battles,  violence,  death,  darkness  and  mythology  themes.

Katachthon/Raw Manifestation/2024 Full Length Review

 

  Greece's  solo  project  Katachthon  has  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  moving  away  from  the  war  metal  style  of  previous  releases  and  going  for  a  mixture  of  first  wave  black,  thrash  and  heavy  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  self  released  2024  album  "Raw  Manifestation".

  A  very  dark  sounding  keyboard  orientated  intro  starts  off  the  album  while  also  adding  in  some  black  metal  screams  onto  the  recording  which  also  takes  the  music  into  a  heavier  direction.  Melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  while  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  also  add  in a   great  amount  of  blast  beats.  

  A  lot  of  the  vocals  bring  in  more  of  a  spoken  thrash  metal  style  while  the  solos  and  leads  bring  in  more  of  an  80's  old  school  extreme  metal  approach.  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  the  songs  also  mixing  in  a  lot  of  first  wave  black  metal  elements  and  influences  of  traditional  metal.

  All  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them,  keyboards  also  return  on  some  of  the  later  tracks  and  clean  playing  can  also  be  heard  briefly  as  well  as  some  of  the  faster  riffing  showing  an  influence  of  80's  era  Brazilian  black  and  death  metal.  The  production  sounds  very  old  school  while  the  lyrics  cover  Hellenic  Mythology  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Katachthon  and  if  you  are  a f an  of  first  wave  black,  thrash  and  heavy  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Revolution"  "Warrior  Spirit"  "A  Stone  For  Abel"  and  "Dreamer's  Sky".  8  out  of  10.

Caileach Bheur/Self Titled/Fiadh Productions/2024 Full Length Review

 

  Caileach  Bheur  are  a  band  from  Scotland  that  plays  a  very  experimental  form  of  black  metal  with  elements  of  traditional  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  titled  2024  album  which  will  be  released  in  June  by  Fiadh  Productions.

  A  very  aggressive  and  heavy  sound  starts  off  the  album  along  with  some  atmospheric  sounding  synths  a  few  seconds  later.  Vocals  are  mostly  grim  sounding  black  metal  screams  while  some  of  the  riffing  also  shows  an  influence  of  traditional  metal  and  blast  beats  are  also  added  into  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs.

  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  while  most  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length.  Clear  singing  can  also  be  heard  in  certain  sections  of  the  album  along  with  the  music  also  having  its  experimental  moments  and  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.

  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  along  with  some  growls  also  being  added  in  at  times.  Melodies  are  also added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing,  spoken  word  parts  can  also  be  heard  on  a  few  tracks.  When  tremolo  picking  is  added  into  the  faster  riffs  they  also  give  the  album  more  of  a  raw  feeling.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  Scottish  Mythology  and  Folklore  themes.

  

  In  my  opinion  Caileach  Bheur  are  a  very  great  sounding  experimental  black  metal  band  with  elements  of  traditional  metal  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "No  Stars,  No  Sun"  and  "A  Requiem  For  Man  And  Saints".  8  out  of  10.

Die Entweihung/Kings & Pawns/Acid Vicious Fanzine/BajoTierra/Inverted Chalice/2024 Album Re-Issue Review

 

  This  is  a  review  of  an  earlier  album  from Israel's  solo  project  Die  Entweihung  which  showed  the  music  going  for  a  blackened  heavy  metal  style  and  the  album  was  originally  released  in  2021  and  called  "kings  &  Pawns"  which  was  re-issued  in  2024  as  a  joint  effort  between  Acid  Vicious  Fanzine,  Bajo  Tierra  and  Inverted  Chalice.

   Static  sounds  and  keyboards  start  off  the  album  before  going  into  more  of  a  heavier  and  melodic  direction.  A  lot  of  the  mid  tempo  riffing  also  shows  an  influence  of  traditional  metal  along  with  the  slower  sections  of  the  songs  also   bringing  in  elements  of  doom  and  dark  metal  and  the  solos  and  leads also  add  in  a  lot  of  melody.

   A  great  portion  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length  while  the  vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams.  Middle  Eastern  style  melodies  can  also  be  heard  at  times  along  with  some  touches  of  thrash  metal  also  being  mixed  in  with  some  of  the  riffs  and  when  the  music  speeds  up  a  decent  amount  of  blast  beats  can  also  be  heard.

   Acoustic  guitars  can  also  be  heard on  a  couple  of  tracks  along  with  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  having  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.  One  song  is  an  instrumental  and  also  introduces  keyboards  onto  the  album,  clear  vocals  and  death  metal  growls  are  also  utilized  on  a  few  songs  and  there  are  also  some  John  Lennon  and  Der  Gerwelf  covers.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  the  conflicts  between  humans  and  the  world  around  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Die  Entweihung  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  blackened  heavy  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  re-issue.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "The  Moustached  God"  "Kings  &  pawns"  and  "Suns  of  Moon  And  Fire".  8  out  of  10.

  Acoustic  guitars  and  clean  playing  start  off  the  album  before  going  into  a  heavier  direction  while  the  solos  and  leads  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  style.  Melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  along  with  all  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  also  having  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.

  Atmospheric  sounding  synths  start  off  the  album  and  also  mixes  in  with  the  heavier  sections  of  the  songs  at  times.  All  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  along  with  the  riffs  also  adding  in  a  decent  amount  of  melody  and  the  vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams.

  Flamekeeper  are  a  solo  project  from Sweden  that  has  had  music  reviewed  before  in  this  zine  and  on  this  recording  plays  an  epic  mixture  of  black  and  heavy  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  self  released  2024  album  which  will  be  released  in  May  by  Invictus  Productions.

  Epic  sounding  synths  start  off  the  album  along  with  some  melodic  guitar  solos  and  leads  a  few  seconds  later.  Most  of t he  clear  vocals  also  bring  in  more  of  a  traditional  metal  style  while  all  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  when  the  music  speeds  up  a  small  amount  of  blast  beats  can  also b e  heard.

  A  lot  of  the  album  is  also  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  80's  era  while  acoustic  guitars  and  clean  playing  can  also  be  heard  on  a  few  tracks.  At  times  the  music  also  mixes  in  the  raw  aggression  of  old  school  black  metal  along  with  some  back  up  shouts  also  being  utilized  briefly  and  most  of  the  tracks  stick  to  either  a  slow  or  mid  tempo  direction.

  On  this  recording  Flamekeeper  moves  way  from t he  black  metal  elements  of  the  previous  release  and  focuses  more  on  an  epic  traditional  metal  style.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  resilience,  inner  strength  and  faith.

  A  very  dark  yet  heavy  sound  starts  off  the  album  before  going  into  a  very  fast,  raw  and  brutal  war  metal  direction  which  also  utilizes  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats.  Vocals  are  a  mixture  of  bestial  growls  and  high  pitched  black  metal s creams  while  the  solos  and  leads  are  also  done  in  a  very  chaotic  yet  melodic  style.

  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  while  the  riffs  also  add  in  a  decent  amount  of  melody.  Synths  can  also  be  heard  in  certain  sections  of  the  album  along  with  one  track  also adding  in  a  brief  use  of  throat  singing  and  the  music  also  adds  in  touches  from  both  the  first  and  second  wave  era's  of  the  genre.

  Some  of  the  tracks  are  also very  long  and  epic  in  length  as  well  as  one  song  also  introducing  clean  playing  onto  he  album  as  well a s  some  of  the  riffing  also  mixing  in  elements  of  traditional  metal  and  the  music  also  has  its  atmospheric  moments.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  Serbian  and  cover  the  stages  in  process  of  awakening  the  primal  werewolf  force  in  the  warrior,  the  triumph  of  the  spirit  and  the  ultimate  sacrifice  of  the  flesh.

  Devorzhum  are  a  band  from  Poland  that  plays  a  very  aggressive  and  ambient   form  of  black  metal  with  elements  of  death,  thrash,  heavy  metal,  ambient  and  dark  electronics  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2024  album  'Exigens  Monumentum"  which  was  released  by  Via  Nocturna.

  Ambient  style  synths  start  off  the  album  before  going  into  a  very  fast  and  raw  musical  direction  which  also  utilizes  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats.  Vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  along  with  some  death  metal  growls  also  being  utilized  at  times.

 Elements  of  thrash  metal  can  also  be  heard  in  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  while  a  great  portion  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length.  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  the  music  also  having  its  atmospheric  moments.

  In  my  opinion  Devorzhum  are  a  very  great  sounding  aggressive  and  atmospheric  black  metal  band  with  elements  of  death,  thrash,  heavy  metal,  ambient  and  dark  electronics  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Exigens  Monumentum"  and  "Cisza  martwych  ulic".  8  out  of  10.
