Greve/Bleknat Bortom Evig Tid/Purity Through Fire/2025 Full Length Review

 

  Sweden's  Greve  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for  an  atmospheric  and  old  school  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2025  album  "Bleknat  Bortom  Evig  Tid"  which  will  be  released  on  December  6th  by  Purity  Through  Fire.

  A  very  dark  sounding  intro  starts  off  the  album  before  going  into  a  very  fast  and  raw  musical  direction  which  also  utilizes  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats.  Melodies  are  also  added  into  a  lot  of  the  guitar  riffing  while  the  vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  and  keyboards  are  mixed  in  with  the  heavier  sections  of  the  songs  and  also  gives  the  recording  more  of  an  atmospheric  touch.

  Most  of  the  music  is  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  mid  90's  era  while  the  solos  and  leads  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  style.  All  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  along  with  the  songs  also  adding  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts,  a  great  portion  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length  as  well  as  some  growls  also  being  utilized  at  times  and  one  track  also  adds  in  a  brief  use  of  spoken  words.

  On  this  recording  Greve  brings  out  a  very  aggressive  and  atmospheric  style  of  black  metal  that  is  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  mid  90's  Scandinavian  tradition.  The  production  sounds  very  raw  and  old  school  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  Swedish  and  cover  darkness  and  death  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Greve  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  old  school  and  atmospheric  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Livets  fjatter  brista'  and  "Bleknat  bortom  evig  tid".  8  out  of  10.

Häxanu/Greve/Naturmystik/Purity Through Fire/Amor Fati Productions/2024 Split Album Review

 

  This  is  a  review  of  a  split  album  between  U.S.A's  Häxanu  and  Sweden's  Greve  called  "Naturmystik"  which  will  be  released  on  May  24th  as  a  joint  effort  between  Purity  Through  Fire  and  Amot  Fati  Productions  and  we  will  start  off  the  rteview  with  Häxanu  who  return  with  their  occult  style  of  black  metal.

  Their  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  atmospheric  sounding  synths  before  going  into  more  of  a  heavier  and  melodic  direction.  When  the  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  can  be  heard  which  also  gives  the  songs  more  of  a  raw  feeling  and  the  vocals  are  mostly  angry  sounding  black  metal  screams.

  All  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  along  with  the  songs  also  adding  in a   good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  style.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  and  the  lyrics  cover  Occultism  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Häxanu  and  if  you  are  a f an  of  occult  black  emtal,  you  should  check  out  their  side  of  the  split.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Mercy"  and  "The  Winged  Chalice".

  Next  up  is  Greve  who  return  their  their  keyboard  orientated  style  of  old  school  black  metal.

  Their  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  a  very  fast  and r aw  sound  which  also  utilizes  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats.  Vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal s creams  while  the  riffs  also  add  in a   great  amount  of  melody  and  the  solos  and  leads  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  style.

  Most  of  the  music  is  also  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  mid  90's  era  along  with  the  keyboards  also  adding  in  some  atmospheric  touches.  The  songs  also  add  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  as  well  as  most  of  the  tracks  also  being  very  long  and  epic  in  length,  clean  playing  can  also  be  heard  briefly.  The  production  sounds  very  raw  and  old  school  while  the  lyrics a re  written  in  Swedish  and  cover  blasphemy,  darkness  and  folklore  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Greve  aand  if  you  are  a  fan  of  keyboard  orientated  old  school  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  their  side  of  the  split.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Gudaföraktets  Ton"  and  "Myllan  av  det  Förgångna'.

  In  conclusion  I  feel  this  is  a  very  great  sounding  split  and  I  would  recommend  it  to  all  fans  of  old  school  and  atmospheric  black  metal.  8  out  of  10.

Greve/Föllo af Svavel, Lifvets Dimridå/Purity Through Fire/2022 CD Review

 

  Sweden's  Greve  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  continues  the  old  school  and  keyboard  orientated  style  of  black  metal  from  their  previous  releases  and  this  is  a  review  of their  2022  album  "Föllo  af  Svavel,  Lifvets  Dimridå"  which  will  be  released  in  April  by  Purity  Through  Fire.

  Epic  sounding  keyboards  start  off  the  album  and  also  mixes  in  with  the  heavier  sections  of  the  songs  at  times.  When  the  music  speeds  up  a  decent  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  can be   heard  which  also  gives  the  songs  more  of  a  raw  feeling  and  melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing.

  Vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  while  the  music  is  also  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  90's  era.  Most  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length  Clear  vocals  can  also  be  heard  in  some  parts  of  the  recording  and  the  songs  also  add  in  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Greve  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  old  school,  atmospheric  and  keyboard  orientated  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Skapelse  Ur  Fiendeskapets  Mödrar"  and  "Mördade Stigar,  Funnit  i  Mitt  Grepp".  8 out  of  10.

Greve/Nordarikets Strid/Purity Through Fire/2020 CD Review

 
  Greve  are  a  duo  from  Sweden  that  has  had  music  reviewed  before  in  this  zine  and  on  this  recording  plays  a  very  old  school  and  keyboard  orientated  style  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  album  "Nordarikets  Strid"  which  will  be  released  in  2020  by  Purity  Through  Fire.

Keyboards  start  off  the  album  and  also  mixes  in  with  the  heavier  sections  of  the  music  along  with  the  vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams.  During  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  which  also  gives  the  music  more  of  a  raw  feeling.

  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.  The  music  is  also  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  90's  while  the  solos  and  leads  are  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  as  well  as  some  of  the  tracks  being  long  and  epic  in  length,  deep  growls  can  also  be  heard  at  times.

  The  riffs  also  bring  in  a  great  amount  of  melody  as  well  as  one  track  introducing  evil  laughter  onto  the  recording  and  as  the  album  a  brief  use  of  clean  playing  can  also  be  heard.  at  times  the  music  gets  very  atmospheric  sounding.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  Swedish  and  cover  darkness,  death,  occultism  and  mysticism  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  album  from  Greve  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  atmospheric,  old  school  and  keyboard  orientated  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  recording.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Vid  Dodens  Troskel"  and  "Ur  Nordiskt  Vrede".  8  out  of  10.

Greve/Nidingsdad utav det Uraldriga/Purity Through Fire/2019 EP Review

  Greve  are  a  band  from  Sweden  that  plays  an  old  school  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2019  ep  "Nidingsdas  utav  det  Uraldriga"  which  will  be  released  on  August  19th  by  Purity  Through  Fire.

  A  very  heavy,  melodic  and  atmospheric  sound  starts  off  the  ep  along  with  some  epic  sounding  keybords,  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  also  use  a  decent  amount  of  melody  while  both  of  the  tracks  being  very  long  and  epic  in  length  as  well  as  the  vocals  being  mostly  grim  sounding  black  metal  screams.

  When  the  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats  and  tremolo  picking  can  also  be  heard  which  also  gives  the  music  more  of  a  raw  feeling.  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  all  of  the  musical  instruments  having  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them,  demonic  growls  can  also b e  heard  at  times  and  the  music  is  also  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  90's  era.

  Greve  plays  a  style  of  black  metal  that  goes  back  to the  raw  90's  style  that  also  mixes  in  the  epic  sounding  keyboards  of  that  era.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  Swedish  and  cover  darkness  and  occultism  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Greve  are  a  very  great  sounding  old  school  black  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  ep.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "I  Svarta  Solens  Magi".  8  out  of  10.
