Misanthropic Rage/Hallucinatory Phenomena/Godz Of War Productions/2022 CD Review

Poland's  Misanthropic  Rage  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  adding  elements  of  death  metal  into  their  avant  garde  style  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2022  album  "Hallucinatory  Phenomena"  which  will  be  released  in  may  by  Godz  Of  War  Productions.

Spoken  word  parts  start  off  the  album  before  going  into  a  heavier  musical  direction  while  melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  riffing.  Vocals  are  also  a  mixture  of  growls  which  add  in  touches  of  death  metal  and  clear  singing  and  the  solos  and  leads  are  also  done  in  a  very  dark  yet  melodic  style.

At  times  the  music  also  gets  very  avant  garde  sounding  while  black  metal  screams  are  also  a  very  huge  part  of  the  recording.  When  the  music  speeds  up  a  decent  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  can  be  heard  which  also  give  the  songs  more  of  a  raw  feeling  and  throughout  the  album  you  can  also  hear  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.  a  couple  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length  and  clean  playing  and  acoustic  guitars  can  also  be  at  times.

On  this  recording  Misanthropic  Rage  takes  their  avant  garde  style  of  black  metal  and  mixes  it  with  death  metal  to  create  something  very  different  from  previous  releases.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  misanthropy,  hatred,  misery  and  pain  themes.

In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  album  from  Misanthropic  Rage  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  avant  garde  black  and  death  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  recording.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "The  Birth  Of  Insanity"  "Void"  and  "Hallucinatory  Phenomena".  8  out  of  10.

Misanthropic Rage/Igne Natura Renovatur Integra/Godz Of War Productions/2018 CD Review

Misanthropic  Rage  are  a  duo  from  Poland  that  has  been  featured  before  in  this  zine  and  plays  an  avant  garde  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2018  album  "Igne  Natura  Renovatur  Integra"  which  will  be  released  in  March  by  Godz  Of  War  Productions.

Acoustic  guitar  playing  starts  off  the  album  along  with  some  clean  avant  garde  style  vocals  a  few  seconds  later  before going  into  a  very  fast  direction  which  also  uses  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats  and  tremolo  picking  to  give  the  songs  more  of  a  raw  feeling  along  with  some  high  pitched  black  metal  screams.

A  decent  amount  of  melody  can  be  heard  in  the  guitar  riffing  while  the  songs  also  mix  the  atmospheric,  avant  garde  and  heavy  parts  together along  with  the  songs  also  bringing  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  as  well  as  the  solos  and  leads  being  done  in  a  very  melodic  fashion.

All  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  while  most  of  the  tracks  are  very  long  and  epic  in  length  along  with  the  vocals  also  getting  more  deep and  grim  as  the  recording  progresses  as  well  as  some  of  the  leads  also  bring  in  a  more  modern  and  atmospheric  style,  spoken  word  parts  can  also  be  heard  briefly.

Misanthropic  Rage  creates  another  recording  that  remains  true  to  the  avant  garde  style  of  black  metal  from  their  previous  release,  the  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the lyrics  are  written  in  a  mixture  of  English  and  Polish  cover  dark  and  philosophical  themes.

In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Misanthropic  Rage  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  avant  garde  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Call  All  Your  Angels"  "Abstrakt"  "The  Agony  Of  Breath"  and  "The  Truth  Shall  Be  Told".  8  out  of  10.

Misanthropic Rage Interview

1.Can you give us an update on what is going on with the band these days?

We're about to release our debut full length album (18.11 is the premiere date), but we're already gathering ideas for next releases.

2.You have a new album coming out in November, how would you describe the musical sound that is presented on the recording and also how does it differ from the ep you had released a few months back?

The sound and the atmosphere of the album doesn't differ much from the EP, simply because both were created and recorded at the same time. It is a little more straight-forward though, Qualia and it's title track were meant to be a journey for us, something different from the very beginning, that's why it became rather long track, we've just went with the flow. Full album has more traditional approach to the matter. The only difference is this time we've decided to hand recorded tracks for mastering to Serakos studio in Warsaw, while Qualia was done entirely by ourselves.

3.What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band explores with the newer music?

Our lyrics almost always describes the way we see the world around us. Sometimes it's straight “in your face” type of message, sometimes it's more metaphorical, but it's always about our view on the world and diseases that devours it from it's core, whether it's religion, politics or just simply human stupidity.

4.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Misanthropic Rage'?

It describes our approach to life. We've become really fed up with everything around, we've started to make music together and “Misanthropic Rage” perfectly describes both the music and attitude.

5.Currently there are only 2 members in the band, are you planning on expanding the line up in the future or do you chose to remain a duo?

If we can find similar minds that will fit to our vision, then sure, it'd be great to be able to take our music and spread it on live shows. From the creational point of view we'd rather stick to the absolutely minimum – the way we work together suits us well and saves us lots of unwanted obstacles, and it's obvious that the more people you have working on something, the harder it gets to have same goal and vision.

6.The new album is coming out on Godz Ov War Productions, are you happy with the support that they have given you so far?

Yes, the atmosphere and dialogue between us goes great so far. It's always a pleasure to work with someone that's doing it for the music, not for fame or money.

7.On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your music by fans of black metal?

I'd lie if I said that we don't care, we're happy when somebody likes what we're doing, but we're not doing it for fame, money or to please someone. We're do what we do with a goal to transform our vision and emotions into sounds, and if someone likes it, that's great.

8.Are any of the band members also involved with any other bands or musical projects these days?

We both have side projects, but our main focus is Misanthropic Rage for the time being.

9.Where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?

That's too early to be sure, we like to evolve. We're not planning anything for the moment, we trust our instincts and do things when the time is right.

10.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your newer music and also what are you listening to nowadays?
Obviously the main influence is Black Metal, especially the Icelandic scene lately, but we listen to a lot of different kinds of metal, and music in general. We don't want to limit ourselves, there's a lot of great sounds even (or maybe especially) in places you would never think of.

11.How would you describe your views on Occultism?

Well, let's just say that making our music is a very spiritual experience for us. We are interested in occultism, but we doesn't follow anyone. I'd rather say we're exploring ourselves in our way.

12.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?

Thanks for having us and taking interest. There is a lot more to come from us, so stay tuned.
