Kold/Det Falmede Det Falmede Håb/Vendetta Records/2025 Full Length Review

Denmark's  Kold  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for  an  atmospheric  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2025  album  "Det  Falmede  Det Falmede  Håb"  which  was  released  by  Vendetta  Records.

A  very  dark  sounding  intro  starts  off  the  album  along  with  some  synths  which  also  mixes  in  with  the  heavier  sections  of  the  songs  at  times.  When  the  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  can  be  heard  which  also  gives  the  recording  more  of  a  raw  feeling  and  the  vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams.

Most  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length  while  the  album  also  adds  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.  At  times  the  music  also  gets  very  atmospheric  sounding  along  with  some  clean  playing  and  clear  singing  also  being  added  into  certain  sections  of  the  recording.

When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  along  with  the  riffs  also  adding  in  a  great  amount  of  melody  as  well  as  the  music  also  adding  in  a  more  modern  style  then  previous  releases,  at  times  the  vocals  also  get  more  deep  and  angrier  sounding  and  one  song  also  adds  in  a  brief  use  of  acoustic  guitars.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  Danish  and  cover  the  isolating  nature  of  loneliness  to  the  embrace  of  community.

In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Kold  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  atmospheric  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Alt  Vi  Havde  Kært"  and  "Uden  Øjne".  8  out  of  10.

Kold/Intet Mere Er/Vendetta Records/2023 Full Length Review

Kold  are  a  duo  from  Denmark  that  has  had  music  reviewed  before  in t his  zine  and  plays  an  old  school  and  atmospheric  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2023  album  "Inet  Mere  Er"  which  will  be  released  in  March  by  Vendetta  Records.

A  very  fast  and  raw  sound  starts  off  the  album  along  with  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats.  Atmospheric  sounding  synths  are  also  mixed  in  with  the  heavier  sections  of  the  songs  at  times  while  the  vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  and  all  of  the  tracks a re  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length.

Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  while  the  solos  and  leads  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  when  they  are  utilized.  The  riffs  also  add  in  a  decent  amount  of  melody  along  with  some  of  the  music  also  showing  some  more  modern  influences  in  some  parts  of  the  recording,  clean  playing  and  acoustic  guitars  can  also  be  heard  on  a  couple  of  tracks.

On  this  recording  Kold  remains  true  to  the  atmospheric  and  old  school  style  on  black  metal  that  they  had  introduced  on  their  previous  release.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  Danish  and  cover  life's  contrasting  tales  from  destructive  cessation  to  blissful  beginnings.

In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  album  from  Kold  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  atmospheric  and  old  school  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  recording.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Vinden,  Den  Kalder  Dit  Navn"  and  "Nattefrost".  8  out  of  10.

Kold Interview

1.For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about the musical project?

Kold is a two man black metal band. The project leans on the traditional formulas from the second wave of black metal but utilizes a unique blend of melodicity and rhythmic variation in combination with the classic elements from the 90s.

We created the band in the spring of 2020 and the EP was written and recorded in two different parts of Denmark. With an alternating focus on recording and production, the record was completed during February 2021. All this means that the EP was created during a melancholic time, where loneliness and longing became the main source of inspiration.

2.Recently you have released an EP, can you tell us a little bit more about the musical style that you went for on the recording?

We wanted to create black metal where we could channel some of our thoughts and feelings in a way that no other genre of music can do. So with black metal as the starting point, we then channeled our inner lives. It was important to us that the songs didn’t get refined and adjusted too much. Because it’s not about achieving musical perfection. It’s about sincerity and sentiment.

3.What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band has explored so far with the music?

The lyrics are based on some of the thoughts, emotions and experiences we or the people around us in our lives have had while we were making the EP. The stories range from an abstract story of a peasant family's hopeless childlessness, the shameful nature of isolation, to the gloomy backside of escapism and the most sinful nooks and crannies of the human chamber of thought.

4.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Kold'?

Kold is cold in Danish. We wanted the name to reflect the general sentiment of the project where we channel the coldness of our inner lives.

5.Can you tell us a little bit more about the artwork that is presented on the ep cover?

The picture is taken locally from near where M grew up. We wanted the artwork to elicit the same emotions as the music and lyrics. Coldness, beauty and sincerity.

6.Currently there are only 2 members in the band, are you open to expanding the line up or do you prefer to remain a duo?

We are open to including more people if the fit is right. But it’s important that we all share the same passion and intentions.

7.The EP was released by Vendetta Records, how did you get in contact with this label?

We knew that a lot of Danish black metal bands were working with Vendetta Records, and we know someone personally who has released with them, so once the EP was almost finished we followed the label on instagram in the hopes of sparking an interest from them. They then contacted us, asking if we would show them some of our music. And luckily, they liked it. It probably also helped to establish a collaboration that everything was more or less ready to go.

8.On a worldwide level, how has the reaction been to your music by fans of black metal?

The reception has been beyond any of our expectations. The reactions have been very positive. The cassette tapes sold out within a day, so we decided to do a second press. We didn’t really anticipate anyone to take notice of the release, but it has gotten quite a bit more attention than we expected both from listeners, reviewers and the industry.

9.When can we expect a full length and also where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?

It’s difficult to say how long it will take, but new material is already being made.

The genre will still be black metal, but as the music is made from the thoughts and emotions that are in our lives when we write it, it will sound like whatever that is. Hard to say what that means musically.

10.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?

I(N) listen to a lot of different genres, but of the bands that inspire me for Kold right now I can mention for example Deafheaven and Afsky.

11.What are some of your non musical interests?

I’ve(N) recently gotten into botany. So I’m growing a lot of plants, mainly chili peppers.

12.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?

The release of our self-titled debut EP is only the beginning of a hopefully long and exciting journey for Kold. So stay tuned!
