1.For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about the band?
Hey! That’s quite a broad question. For those who have never heard us, it’s worth listening. But in general, I see it as a transmission of our thoughts, views, lived experiences, and everything that has filled the vessels of our creative impulse. It holds everything - love for our land, anger toward our enemies, endured tragedies, and victories.
2.In August you had released your first full length, can you tell us a little bit more about the musical style that you went for on the recording?
Musically, we do things the way we see and feel them. It’s never a matter of how we would like to sound or what we would like to play - we always create what comes from within us. That is the very essence of our art: making sure that every spoken word and every played note is sincerity and a pure reflection of the soul in that exact lived moment. Without forgetting those who came before us and what they left behind.
3.What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band has explored so far with the music?
About many things. There is the pain of our people, admiration for everything that remains with us, and a message for our future selves. That is the strength of the lyrics - someone might grasp something instantly, while for others it will take long searches for meaning and attempts to experience it through the prism of their own life.
4.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Nathreism'?
There is nothing behind the name, it’s just a proper name.
5.Can you tell us a little bit more about the artwork that is presented on the new album cover?
We always spend a long time thinking about the cover and the design. This time we were satisfied with what we managed to depict. It refers to every song on the album, so it is directly connected to what is said on the release - no more, no less.
6.What are some of the best shows that the band has played so far and also how would you describe your stage performance?
I don’t divide concerts into good and bad. Everywhere there’s something good and something bad, but that’s the essence of life. The main thing about concerts is the thoughts you carry back with you. Every such journey feels unique, no matter what it was like.
7.Do you have any touring or show plans for the new album?
No, we don’t have such plans at the moment.
8.The album was released on 'Ashen Dominion', how did you get in contact with this label?
A very fortunate coincidence, as always. After one of our performances, we learned that there was interest in us, and that’s how our work began.
9.On a worldwide level how has the reaction been to your music by fans of black and pagan metal?
Was there any reaction? Even if there was, I don’t care. I’m simply not interested. For me, there are specific people in my close circle who are involved in these things. Their opinion matters to me, and the value of their words is extremely high. But what some people from some so-called “community” are saying is alien to me.
10.Where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?
Right now, we are working on new material that will in some ways differ from the first album. The foundation will remain the same, but some elements will change - and in my opinion, only for the better. It will clearly be more emotional than our previous work, though such elements already existed in the first release, just not to this extent. Soon we’ll finish work on a single that you’ll be able to hear.
11.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?
Most of all, I think our music reflects the influence of the Ukrainian black metal scene. It has always been a huge inspiration for us, because you don’t just understand what they’re talking about - you feel certain lines in a special way through what you yourself have seen. This was also complemented by other bands important to us (Primordial, Sacrilegium, Anathema, …).
12.How would you describe your views on Paganism?
Everything around us has a soul behind it. A person, existing in this world, must not only take from it, but also give to it. They are not the center, but one of the components of being. We need to be in harmony with what surrounds us and not disturb the forces that lie beyond our consciousness. All of this leaves its imprint on our fate. We are bound by blood to our forefathers, and we must not forget who they were and remember what came before them. The gods grant strength of spirit, nurture confidence in our deeds. In special moments, when time feels different and everything around seems extraordinary and captivating -like a sunrise you watch in solitude - comes the realization of contact with such delicate threads of the sensual world, in which there certainly is something. For me, understanding and experiencing all these things is the transmission of my worldview.
13.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?
Always be sincere with yourself. Always do what your soul calls you to, no matter what. That is the very step beyond the boundary.
